In the early 1980s, Francis Ford Coppola visited Belize, immediately fell in love with the location, and purchased the abandoned Blancaneaux Lodge. For more than a decade the resort was used as a family retreat before Francis opened his tropical paradise to the public in 1993. Tucked away in a pocket of the Maya Mountains, Blancaneaux Lodge is a 20-room luxury resort where waterfalls tumble into turquoise pools above the jungle canopy. Its remote mountain setting makes it a perfect place to relax, rejuvenate and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

Blancaneaux is one of the Coppola hotels. The only wines by the glass are from their vineyards in case you forget. But the theme from The Godfather doesn’t play in the background.

The cabañas are chic. Mine had a view of the (man made) small waterfall along the river. The porch was a treat though a chaise would’ve been welcome there.

Rooms have no A/C which is not at all a problem at night as the rooms cool down in this hilly locale. But during the height of the day’s summer heat, this is a problem if you’d like a break after some hot activities.

Rooms have Illy espresso makers along with good bathroom products. Yoga mats are a nice touch. Rooms are serviced twice daily.

Jaguar bar is a nice wooden retreat with good drinks. I recommend the excellent Guatemalan over the fine but unremarkable Italian option if you have a choice.

WiFi tends to strengthen and weaken.

I was disappointed to discover that I was being charged for something from the minibar I didn’t have and was also charged for a juice I did have at breakfast despite having been told all was included. Apparently, espressos and certain juices are not even if you have the full breakfast. Took unduly long to sort out. However, the service overall is excellent.

It’s a hilly location so can be a bit tough on people with any mobility issues.

A very pleasant stay. An excellent location from which to visit Caracol or the ATM cave. The road from the Western Highway to here is rapidly being upgraded and may soon be the best in Belize.

While visiting Belize for our honeymoon, we knew we wanted to spend time in the Belizean mountains to experience the lush forest region and the expansive jungle. After sifting through the many options available for such, we found Blancaneaux Lodge. We booked the Enchanted Cottage as our big “splurge” of the trip to embrace the surrounding wilderness with luxury in mind.

When we arrived at Belize City airport, the hotel had a driver, Alex, waiting outside of customs for us. Along the drive, he educated us about the different villages we were passing, answered all of our many many questions about the country and nature, and made sure we were comfortable for the entire drive.

Upon arrival at the Lodge, we were welcomed by our personal butler, Cesar, who graciously gave us a tour of the grounds, the restaurants, and our cottage after some welcome beverages in the primary building.

The Enchanted Cottage was perfect for what we wanted; semi-secluded, luxurious, and even came with a golf cart for our use during our stay. Stepping in, we were greeted by a full kitchen, a large bedroom adorned with flower petals and towel swans, a sun room with heated tile floors, and a luxurious en-suite bathroom with two showers, a bath tub, and heated tile floors. Additionally, the cottage offers a private Infinity pool!

Cesar took excellent care of us during every meal, acted as our own personal concierge for all the activities and excursions we wanted to experience, and went above and beyond for us by even setting up an incredible private dinner on a deck by the river for our final evening. Every meal we enjoyed was incredible. With three restaurants on property, there is quite a bit of variety in cuisines to meet every craving. Every staff member was beyond kind and provided incredible service and great conversations.

For our excursions off-property, we were lucky enough to have Alex as our guide once more. For each part, he lead with dignified ease and spoke about the histories of what we were seeing with eloquence. He prioritized our safety every step of the way but make sure the experiences were custom to what we wanted.

Every part of our stay left us in awe of the incredible service and already planning our next stay. Blancaneaux Lodge was nothing short of incredible and we recommend it to anyone and everyone.

We visited Blancaneaux for part one of our two part Belizean honeymoon. The hospitality we received at this resort was top of the line! Everyone we met always had a smile on. They were very friendly and happy to talk about their country. The rooms are all individual buildings. We were in the very end unit that had a private plunge pool so we never had to leave the room if we didn't want to. The room was spacious and very comfortable. They don't have AC, but we went during the rainy season so the fan was all we needed to keep cool. My wife's favorite part was the candles that were left by the room service every night after we returned from dinner. The paths to and from the units to the main area made for a beautiful walk, although there were a lot of stairs because of the resorts location on the hillside. The river below was fun to swim in. The water was clear and felt very refreshing. The waterfall nearby was also a fun place to swim. One of my favorite things during our stay was the dinner in the garden. The head groundskeeper takes you around and shows you all of the fruits and vegetables they grow and let you try them fresh. Afterwards, the cook prepares a vegetarian meal from items you pick and you eat on the deck overlooking the vast garden.

This resort was so amazing we nearly canceled the second half of our trip to stay there longer. You won't find a more personable and detail oriented staff. I highly recommend staying here when you visit Belize!

We booked three nights beginning of March ,and because of the rain the road to the lodge was so muddy that we got stucked with our jeep for one hour . finally we got out and made it to the property . We paid more then 1200 Euros for a smallest room we stayed during our whole trip in Belize . The Terrace was very nice and the the location is wonderful , but the room small , the bathroom with a small shower and a tiny sink . You have one two seater sofa and a small table in the room .during the night we were able to hear the conversation of our next cottage neibourghs. The breakfast which was included was a bit of fruit and bread with marmalade . The a la cart bf was very nice . Only one restaurant was open per night while the other was closed . Because we planed trips from the hotel we were afraid that we would have problems to come back to the hotel because of the bad road . Talking to the receptionist we got no help at all instead they came over arrogant . Finally we were able to talk to the duty manager and cancelled two nights . And verbally were told that the two nights left would be paid back .7 weeks later still no payment no answer to the emails . I would not recommend to stay there . Even the location is nice , but we found a very nice hotel the next day for half the price and more friendly service

My trio stayed in cabin #1 I believe which had two bedrooms separated by the living room. The photos online simply do not do the rooms justice- they're so much better.
Waking up to espresso in my room every morning and doing yoga on our porch was blissful. Linens were clean and crisp, water pressure was perfect, and the design was phenomenal, with beautiful wood everywhere.

We did the free the lazy river tour and a couple of paid tours as well. ATM was totally worth it, my first time spelunking and I loved it! We also did the Rio Frio Cave and Rio on Pools.

Another amenity I loved were the hartail Bianchi mountain bikes they had available. While they're in dire need of new tires, chains, cable replacement or lube & tightening, or at the very least some chain lube they really made my last day so memorable.

Why not 5 stars? The vegetarian tasting dinner just isn't worth the price. It basically consists of 2 salads and a stir fry. Save your money for a massage instead- the best hotel massage I've ever had (IMO they tend to be piss poor).

Shout out to Alex who picked us up at the airport- he's very knowledgable and just a super cool dude. All the staff were lovely but Alex really stood out.

Blancaneaux is a top-notch luxury resort is the heart of the Belize mountains. We visited the first week of January with our 2 year old son. From the moment we arrived, we immediately felt a sense of peace and relaxation. The location is picturesque overlooking the lush greenery and river. Our spacious villa overlooked the waterfall, and we especially loved relaxing in the hammock listening to the sounds of the birds and rushing water. The bedding and towels were soft and luxurious; the heaters placed in the bed at turndown service at night were the perfect touch on cool nights; and the room service for breakfast was fast (with delicious food).

Beyond the accommodations, the staff is truly outstanding. Every single person was welcoming and attentive to our needs. They learned our names, were especially kind to our young son, and provided first class service throughout our stay. The food at the main restaurant and Guatemalan restaurant was excellent, with good variety (we did not have a chance to eat at the Garden restaurant, but other guests gushed about it). The staff at the pool was also extremely attentive, and we had fabulous services at the spa.

Additionally, we did several of the excursions, including a horseback ride to Big Rock Falls and then swimming in the falls, which was absolutely amazing. We did the Barton Creek cave/canoe trip (such fun) and ziplining, toured the butterfly farm (especially fun for our son), and did a sunset buggy ride and picnic. My husband also did some running/hiking at the lodge.

We travel extensively, and Blancaneaux is one of the top places we have stayed. We can't wait to return.

Tip - Bring bug spray and wear comfortable shoes.

My wife and I just spent our 2nd anniversary at Blancaneaux Lodge. It's an amazing place. Beautiful and everything was just perfect. We cannot say enough good things about it! The staff, EVERY ONE OF THEM, was kind, helpful, polite, and all great people! We were treated very special there. We are so grateful and we will never forget it. Be sure to put on the complimentary bug spray when you are there and the complimentary lotion in the room helps prevent bites too. The two public pools = the warm pool and the larger cool pool are both awesome, so don't fret if you can't get the room with the private pool. It's really super nice of course, but just saying the other public pools are great too. Calm, peaceful, and most of the time was just us or maybe one other couple on occasion when we were there. Be sure to take the combined same day trip to Rio Frio Cave, Caracol, and Rio On Pools. All amazing places! The three (!) restaurants at Blancaneaux Lodge are all so wonderful. The bar too. You have to visit each one. The main restaurant for Coppola's Family Recipe of meatballs, The Guatemalan restaurant was sooo good, and the Garden tour and Restaurant was real fun and interesting...and super tasty! The bar is a cool place to hang out and chill as well. All the trees, plants, flowers and foliage there at BL make the grounds beautiful, shady (and sunny too). The place was almost always breezy and nights were very comfortable even in the summer. We never wanted to leave BL and cried when we did and got back to the main highway 25 minutes after leaving there I don't mind telling you. We will be back for sure soon as we can! We loved it and everyone that works there who made it so so special to us. Coppola should be very proud. I'm sure he is. Thank you folks!

We spent 2 nights here and there was not a single second when we did not feel welcome. We stayed in one of the river side cabañas and not only was the view spectacular but the room was incredibly comfortable. The room was extremely clean. Staff went in during the evenings to further prepare beds, clean the bathroom and lower the window drapes. Towels and sheets were clean.

During our first dinner, we met Marty. Marty was very friendly, always making conversation and always attentive to our needs. Staff at front desk were always friendly. Definitely going back.

We stayed at Blancaneaux for 7 nights to combine relaxation with some adventures. Our cabana was spacious with a screened in porch and hammock. We had coffee and tea delivered to our cabana early each morning then at 9am we went to the open-air restaurant for the continental breakfast, which was more than ample! We had several dinners there and all of the food was very good. We hiked to Big Rock Falls, and we lingered so long that they sent some staff to look for us! That is how carefully they are aware of and serve their guests! We took their tour to Caracol and the guide was excellent! The rest of the time we lounged at the pool or stayed in the main lodge because that was the best place to get WiFi service. 90% of the time we could not get it in our cabana and it was the second cabana from the main lodge! We run a business so we had to spend a lot of time in the main lodge to catch up on emails. Several times it even went down in the lodge and we had to ask them to reboot the router. The pool had good WiFi reception but it is not a very attractive area. It is in great need of updating and beautification. And the chairs are very uncomfortable for reading. I had to put 2 towels behind my back to sit up straight enough to read comfortably. The unreliable WiFi (which definitely distracted from our enjoyment) and the pool area are the reasons I gave them only 3 out of 5 stars.

The property is amazing. Manicured, with a smart layout aimed at privacy, plenty of places to enjoy nature, a spa, truly excellent meals, handcrafted cocktails, and I could go on and on. But what makes this place stand out, as most reviews have said, are the people. Everyone is incredibly polite, always with a smile, and flawlessly call you by first name. Unlike most guests I was traveling alone and stayed at Blancaneaux for a full week. As a woman, solo traveling can be tricky but I always felt respected and safe while at the lodge and during all of my adventuring. Francisco spent 4 days with me, two days on horseback, a full day hiking in the jungle (10 miles), and a night hike. He was kind, made sure the adventure was trailered to my taste which was basically always moving, and he was super knowledgeable. The horses were very well cared for, forward moving, and easy without being boring. Hector lead a tour of the garden before the best vegetarian meal of my life : ) and one of my favorite parts of my stay was getting an up close look at Hectors bee hives! We geared up in full suits and I was able to see the inner workings of the hive. If you've never been safely in the middle of 150,000 bees its an intimidating but must-do activity! Eddie lead the way through Caracol which, just the drive there was an adventure, and he was also knowledgeable and patient while I explored. Jose made Barton's Creek Cave a true adventure and one I won't soon forget. All of the staff at the restaurant had impeccable manners, the concierge ladies made sure all of my trips and last minutes changes were accommodated with a smile, the room was expertly arranged each day and evening, its safe to say I don't have anything negative to say. Even after a full week at the lodge there were trips I wished I'd been able to fit in but hopefully I'll be able to come back with my husband for another visit. I appreciate all the care I received while on my trip and want to emphasize this lodge isn't just for couples : )
