By far one of our favorite family vacations. Wendy was amazing, made breakfast for everyone and made it a point to make sure we had everything we needed. Anna and Lilly were by far my favorite. We recommend Country Woods Inn for a fun, relaxing, and animal loving time.

My husband and I love to give our children the gift of experiences for the holidays. After a great deal of research we happened upon the Country Woods Inn and it seemed like the perfect mini-vacation for our family of 5, including 3 young children. Upon arrival at 3 pm, our cabin (Prairie House NORTH) was open, lit and inviting. The attention to detail was astounding, from the copies of Emerson and Thoreau laid on the beds, to the scavenger hunt cards and everything in between, no detail was overlooked. The cabin was rustic, but cozy, comfortable and clean. The kitchen was small, but functional, and I was able to cook dinners for my family of 5 with ease. The beds were soft, comfortable and clean. The bathroom of this cabin was clean, but taller guests should note that the ceiling is low. My children loved it and called it the “Hobbit Bathroom”. The animals were friendly, well kept, great with children and obviously loved. My 7 year old daughter spent the 4 days we were there daydreaming she lived on this farm. There was something to appeal to everybody; hiking, fishing, campfires, river walk, animals, swimming as well as close proximity to downtown Glen Rose, Big Rocks Park, Paluxy Riverwalk, Fossil Rim and Dinosaur Valley State Park. This is the perfect destination to do as much or as little as you would like and enjoy every moment of it! My children loved greeting the animals throughout the day, swinging on the tree swings, hiking, exploring the Chapel in the Woods, campfires and smores, and reading in adorable playhouse library. We had a truly magical stay that brought us closer to the things that matter the most in the world, while nourishing the soul. We can’t wait to return and see the wildflowers and swim in the river!

Throw away your ideas for what a farm might be. I don't know what I was expecting but from the moment we drove through the big front gate I felt like I was swept away into a magical place. As you drive in the Paluxy River is on the left and a sprawling green lawn with a lovely gazebo and charming little houses like the Prairie House and the Main house. They also have adventure lodging and we stayed in the Santa Fe Rail Car which is nestled in the woods just a short walk from the main area. I loved that it was a little more private and secluded. When we walked in I felt that I had been transported to somewhere out of a book. There was such thought and attention to detail in the train themed space. You could tell a lot of love went into preparing the space for guests. There were toy train cars on shelves around the perimeter of the ceiling, railroad crossing signs, and other pictures and memorabilia. Despite the 108 degree temperatures while we were there we still ventured out and explored the walking trail, bird watching area, went down to wade in the swimming hole, and explore the property. We were able to walk from the swimming hole to Big Rocks Park (since that part of the river was dried up from the hot temperatures) in a matter of minutes. My 8 year old enjoyed feeding the goats, llama, horse and donkey. He was also able to pet some of the bunnies. The resident cat, Fat Cat, also came to visit us a few times, much to his delight. In the evenings we saw a family of deer come by as well as the donkey and horse both whom would let you pet them. At night you could just step outside and see the stars like you never do in the city. I only wish we had chosen to stay Friday -Monday so we could have experienced breakfast in the barn on Saturday and Sunday morning! Also note that some of the local eating places are not open on Mondays so we missed out on some BBQ opportunities. I did visit the Shoo-Fly Soda shop that is a few minutes away. The town square and little shops are about 4 minutes away and there are quite a few other eateries and attractions very close by. We went to Dinosaur World and Fossil Rim. The night before we had to go we were already feeling sad that we had to leave. We will definitely be back (when it's cooler!) and I hope we can make this an annual vacation and stay longer next time. Highly recommend.

We loved our stay at Country Woods Inn. We stayed in the Saddle House with our granddaughter and had a great time. The seven tree swings outside our door kept us all busy when we weren't admiring and petting the many bunnies or feeding the llama and goats. The Paluxy River was just a short walk away so we kept the heat at bay by wading and swimming there.

It was over 100 when we visited, but the A/C was great and the beds were very comfortable so we slept well in the cabin after a wonderful meal cooked on the grill outside. (Next time we hope to take advantage of the fire circle, but it was just too hot for us this time.)

The location of this place was excellent, not far from the main points of interest. The grounds themselves were really nice, felt much like home in a small village where you share living quarters with the handful of guests who stay on property at this charming little farm. I could not say enough great things about Wendy, who manages the property and lives on site. She was extremely accommodating, took the time to get to know us, and made sure that anything and everything that we needed was covered.

In my honest opinion, there is really no reason to visit this town except for the Dinosaur State National Park, the Wildlife Safari Adventure thingy nearby, and THIS place.

It Is by no means a town where you will find much activity, it is not a town that is kept up very well at all, but it is definitely a getaway.

If you want to get away from everything in your life, this is the place to be.

In particular, the Country Woods Inn is a world of its own. There is great attention to detail in every single decoration in each of the cabins. Although I would not at all call it luxurious, I can't say that everything is very well thought out, every decoration, and is reminiscent of the old days.

It is nice that the CWI is right there on the Paluxy River; my son and I really enjoyed hanging out with the farm animals on property, walking my dog on property, and having such wonderful access to the river from our cabin at Country Woods Inn.

The main complaint I would have about the country woods and would be applicable only to the grounds themselves. Although they did cut the grass while we were there, which was very nice, they offer a very wide assortment of yard games that are tempting for children to play with.

While these yard games would normally be super nice, (things like croquet balls, tire swings, swings hanging from the trees, a basketball court, a monkey bar set for toddlers, etc), most of that equipment was very very run-down, buried in dead leaves, in need of cleaning, repair/replacement, and/or general maintenance, Etc.

We did love the little library though! Right in the middle of the pasture where the goats and llama are.

In my observations, I simply had to remind myself that I was on a little farm. Take it or leave it, it's very rustic over there. No frills. Just a kick back to the old days, and a genuine, real escape from reality.

Overall, it really is a nice little place in spite of the way I might have made it sound in my description just now. Those are mere words of caution for those who are looking for luxury, new/shiny yard toys for the kiddos, etc.

Come with your boots on, get ready to love on some animals, bring you some firewood to throw and to any one of several fire pits on property at night, and take an opportunity to disconnect from the world for a little while.

If you want to have a great experience with your kids or grandkids, this is the place!
This was our second time at Country Woods Inn, and on the way home, we were already planning another trip back! Our 3 grandkids want to get out first thing in the morning and are out all day to sunset to be with the animals and each one has their favorites. Imagine having a great breakfast inside a beautiful barn and have Gracie the horse pop her head in the barn door so the kids can give her a carrot! and what an experience seeing baby bunnies one morning hours after they were born!
Wendy is a great host and you can tell wants your stay to be special!! The kids love asking her about the animals and their stories. Each one of the Cabins, and the Vintage Trailers are unique and the details in the accessories and furnishings are very creative. There are playground areas and always plenty of games for nights in the Cabins. The best part is that the grandkids never once ask to turn on the TV or use their I-Pads the entire time we are there! It's like going back in time.
Definitely a great experience for quality family time!

We stayed in the quaint ‘Main House’ and could not have been more pleased! Upon entering the home, which was very clean, the main gathering room was decorated for Christmas with a live tree and smaller light up trees in several places. There were game books for the kiddos and a jar of candy-cane quiz sticks the children used to challenge the adults? The upstairs was fully loaded with dolls and toys for the little ones. It truly showed the proprietor loved to make you feel as though you were at grandmas’ house for Christmas. Furthermore, the kitchen and eating areas were complete with all the pans, utensils, micro, stove and dish washer, making meal preparation and cleanup a breeze. There was even a coffee maker, coffee and cocoa to use. Albeit the weather was a little cold, the area surrounding the home was very nice with animals to pet and many places to explore; even a trail and park nearby. On the last day the kiddos didn’t want to go; the six year old said “I don’t want to leave, I love this house!” Good memories made.

Our family of four, including 2 young boys stayed in the Farm House and we couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and stress-free week! When we weren't (minutes away) from Dinosaur Valley and Fossil Rim, we spent our time with the farm animals, playing basketball, soccer, picking wildflowers, napping on hammocks and painting in the super cute art studio and library! Every few yards or so, there was something to do! Our house was fully stocked with everything you could need, and the special attention to detail was nice as well.
Breakfast daily in the barn with the animals every morning was something my kids looked forward to.

We can't wait to visit again!

We had a great time and the service was great. My 5 and 7 year old kids thought the train car was so cool and they loved all the animals. The horses were so sweet - they would walk right up and bend their heads down to greet us and let us pet them. The river water was low and looked stagnant when we visited so we didn't swim while at the inn, but we enjoyed visiting nearby Dinosaur Valley State Park and did swim in the river there. Wifi and phone service was limited out by the train car, which made us disconnect and really feel like we were glamping! There was an airstream village by us that looked like they'd be fun too.

We had the honor of staying in this quaint inn this past weekend, and we are already excitedly talking about our next trip in the summer with our families.

The host was so amazing and showed us around. Introduced us to all of the farm animals which are very friendly and enjoyed the cuddles we ladies were eager to give.

Got into our cabin and OH MY! It was precious! It’s fun and had a great vintage feel. The grounds are beautifully kept and you can see it’s very family oriented! Outdoor games and trails everywhere.

Walking distance from Glen Rose’s downtown square and shops. Right next to the beautiful river walk, and Rock Park.

If you’re looking for a quiet slow paced weekend getaway for yourself, spouse or even the entire family... this is perfect!

My family stayed in the white cabin and it had two bedrooms with one small bathroom. We loved the cabin and every inch had something to look at. Our cabin was a duplex so do bring earplugs or a noisemaker if your a light sleeper. Our neighbors were great but it was nice to have when we wanted to sleep in a little longer. We loved our stay.
