Gorgeous suite with enchanting view. Rough Creek Lodge is a treasure! A short drive from DFW to a four season sportsman's paradise. Opened in 1998, a true pleasure for all. The attractions & activities are manifold . This is on the repeat list. We will go again.

My wife set up the family to take a trip to Rough Creek instead of travelling elsewhere for Thanksgiving. We stayed in a cabin near the skeet range. The room was clean and comfortable. We did have trouble getting the televisions to work, one would not turn on the other would not turn off, but the staff came out and sorted it the second day of our stay.
The food at the lodge was really good. I was pleasantly surprised at the offerings and there was enough variety to keep the whole family happy. Thanksgiving day featured all the standards, Turkey, mash potatoes, etc. But with a definitely unique twist. Left stuff and wanting more at the same time.
My son and I hunted hogs and ducks. I am not a big fan of the hog hunt as it is nothing more than driving around a penned area shooting them as they run. Lots of carcasses littering the area as well gave it a bit of surreal feel. Not my cup of tea. But the guide who drove the atv was hysterical and enthusiastic and worked to make sure we had a good time.
We also did the trap shooting range. It brought out the competitive side in my son and he beat me each round. But the time there was great and the guide helpful, offering shooting tips that unfortunately worked better for my son than for me.
We also went duck hunting. This was a highlight of the trip. My son had never done t before. We were driven out to a well made blind and the guide set out the decoys. He even had a trusty Lab to retrieve the ducks. We bagged a few, likely due to the lessons learned at the shooting range, and returned happy. The staff cleans the ducks for you, packs them on ice in a cooler and provided a great recipe for duck chili. I made it when we returned home and it is now a staple in our recipe book.
Staff were also very helpful and attentive.
There are some reviews that talk about price, but I think the level of service and quality of offerings warrants it. I think this would be a great place if someone from out of Texas or another country wanted to get a luxury view of what it is like out in the countryside.

Our recent visit to rough Creek Lodge was amazing from start to finish.
The staff was friendly and helpful, greeting us as we walked around the grounds and asking if there was anything they could do to make our stay better. They were gracious in granting our request, such as… Seating us away from crowds and children in the dining room, so us to have a quiet place to converse during our delicious meal.
The food is outstanding! I so wish it was closer so that we could just dine there in an evening. The choices aren’t numerous, but carefully picked so as every diner can find something that matched their taste. The steak and salmon or outstanding. Even the buttermilk lime dressing is incredible. The desserts of chocolate lava cake, and the banana pudding Brulé worse totally amazing.
The rooms are extremely comfortable with good lighting, comfortable beds, and comfortable rocking chairs on the patio.
There are numerous activities to enjoy both inside and outside.
You can’t be disappointed in a stay at Ruff Creek Lodge

The lodge room was extremely disappointing, not clean, lacking a side table, a nasty mildew smell coming feom the brown carpet and found boogers (yes boogers on the wall). The toiletries were like what you would get at a hampton inn, I've stayed at better hampton inns that were better. Don't get me started on the adult pool, it had wall to wall astro turf as the decking, cheap bright blue cushions on the chairs, which should have been facing the scenery but were instead turned to face the unattended snack bar. The shade structures were immovable so you would inevitably be unshaded. The pool itself was falling apart. It seems that all the focus was on the "extra" activities and that this place has lost its focus on service and quality. The food, what it used to be known for was ok. Its a shame this place has gone WAY downhill over the past few years. For $1500 per night i would rather go and stay at say, Pelican hill or the Montage in Laguna.

Rough Creek became our favorite place to visit in 2013 when we were first introduced to this magical getaway!
Now we go a couple times per year, or as many times as our lives allow.
It is truly beautiful in every aspect!

The lodge itself sits in the middle of many acres, yet remains cozy inside !
We have stayed in regular rooms, The Eisenhower Suite,
The Sam Houston Suite, and all of the 5 cabins.
Each and every visit our time is spent relaxing from our busy lives in Dallas.
In the summer we relax by the beautiful pool, with the spectacular blue skies all around us.
In the winter we look for the closest fireplace ( they are inside the rooms, suites, and cabins!

I love the spa and always get a massage to relax , while my partner loves to ride, visit, and feed the beautiful horses at the stables.

The restaurant is spectacular ! Every bite a surprise, and something new - or still wonderful.

A highlight is always a visit from Chef Gerrard, their world renowned , highly respected Chef .
He's a spectacular Chef, and more importantly, a very nice, kind, and humble man.

On this visit last week we were celebrating my partner's birthday with a fabulous dinner and thought this could not be any better from start to finish.
When time for dessert, he was treated to a scrumptious dessert with a sparkler on top, and his name written in icing on the plate.
We had dessert every other trip, but this was over the top delicious!

The only thing we don't like about Rough Creek is when it's time to leave !
Like kids we don't want to go!
It's just too magical .

Every special occasion, or just wanting to get away , our time will continue to be spent at Rough Creek lodge & resort !

Amazing experience. I can't say enough about the food. Absolutely amazing! Dinner and Breakfast come bundled with your room which makes everything so convenient. During dinner, the executive chef, Gerard Thompson took time to come speak with us - really made us feel at home. This is a great get away from the city. Would recommend 10/10!

This was a family trip with son and his family. The children are 10 and 6. I was overwhelmed at the cost, however, once there and seeing all that was available and how much we all enjoyed it, the thought of the high cost seemed to disappear. Between the 6 of us, we enjoyed fishing, rockwall climbing, the petting zoo, fossil hunting (found 8 shark teeth), zipline, miniature golf, all the board games, pingpong, shuffleboard, and pool. The maze was a big hit as was basketball, soccer, etc. Everywhere one looked there was some activity available.
The food was excellent. Large breakfast and fantastic dinners. None of us even ate lunch we were still full from breakfast and busy with activities to realize we were hungry!
Everyone on staff was polite, courteous and helpful. We totally loved our stay. At the end of the trip as we were loading up our cars, the grandkids asked if we could come back next year. .......I am saving up money now!!!!!

Rough Creek is an amazing jewel, offering every type of family activity you can think of. My family and I are regular visitors (from Austin) because it's a perfect getaway to historicTexas hospitality in a serene country setting. The amenities are too long to list here, but you can find everything on their website and all activities are safely and courteously overseen by staff members who value your joyful experience above all. If you decide to stay at Rough Creek Lodge, you won't be disappointed. Highly recommend!

For our third trip here, we took our grandchildren ages 8 and 6 for a two-night retreat. The kids love evening Kids Camp, where they have supervised play with other kids, do crafts, shoot indoor hoops, and watch movies. They chose to eat there both nights, so we enjoyed quiet dinners of the excellent food served at RC Lodge. Swimming and floating the lazy river cooled us down from the hot August days. We took advantage of the early morning coolness to fish at the stocked pond, which is always a hit. And we loved the recent addition of the dirt track for mini ATV’s, which our 8-year-old was able to drive with one of us as a passenger. He was thrilled! One suggestion for the Lodge is to add in more shaded areas for sitting outdoors throughout the property. As an added bonus to our fun weekend, we stopped at Dinosaur Valley Park on the way back to Dallas and were able to see archaeologists uncovering and making molds of the latest dinosaur tracks to be discovered from 113 million years ago, bringing history to life.

When planning a Spring Break trip for my son and me, I struggled to think of something a 16-year-old boy would enjoy with his mother. Rough Creek Lodge was the perfect destination. My son and I had an incredible time. He LOVED the activities we signed up for like skeet shooting and long-range rifle shooting. The RCL staff did an incredible job with him, teaching him safe gun practices and how to improve his aim. Their knowledge and skill, coupled with their authenticity and kindness, resulted in a teenage boy actually listening to the people in charge. Also, the food at RCL is incredible. I had to stretch my budget to afford this trip, but it was worth every penny and I have no regrets. It was a lifelong memory for my son and me.

This is a five star resort and is priced accordingly. I’m not much of a drinker, so can’t really answer knowledgeably. When the guys had beers, I vaguely recall appx $7 each. Mixed drinks were obviously more $$. House wine was relatively reasonably priced.
