The Aloft Houston Downtown receives accolades for its cleanliness and the exceptional service provided by its staff, with many guests feeling welcomed by their helpfulness and efficiency. Its prime location is a hit among travelers, offering convenient access to local attractions and eateries. While the amenities, including a rooftop pool, are appreciated, some visitors feel they are basic and the pool is on the smaller side. Opinions on the hotel's atmosphere are split, with guests enjoying the modern vibe even though a few consider the decor to be dated. The value proposition is contentious, with some guests encountering unexpected charges, yet others deem it reasonable. Room opinions vary, with cleanliness and comfort being praised, but decor preferences not always met.

So I had arrived to the hotel and checked in with Victor. He was very accommodating and professional and thanked me for my status with Marriott. We were travelling with a dog and didnt think it through that there was not really green space close by for him to go to the bathroom. We did then go up to the room and it smelled like a smoker was just in there and it was not cleaned properly. I immediately went downstairs to address the situation with Victor who was ready to change the room immediately. We did end up leaving the hotel and going to a different Aloft property actually, that would be better for the dog to go outside easily, and Victor was very nice to check us out and assist us with other accommodations instead. He was very nice and understanding in the stressful situation we were having, especially trying to park the car down the street since valet was not available. Also I know there is covid but it would be nice to have some food option at the property, even if it is just snacks. Victor gave the dog a nice toy before we departed. I would like to commend Victor for his service, but the hotel was just not what I thought it would be and I am glad we were able to leave to go to the Katy Aloft.

Aloft is styled as a modern updated hotel, which we liked. The front desk staff were extremely courteous and helpful (check in, answering questions, allowing late checkout and locked luggage storage).
The room was also updated and comfortable. The air conditioner may be the best and quietest I've ever had in a hotel room. Also did not hear much noise from other guests. There were a few things about the room that may or may not bother guests. The big one for us was that our window looked out on a brick wall. No view and no daylight at all. Try to get a room facing the street. Smaller ones were: no bedside clock, no shelf in shower to hold items, sink faucet was a little loose.
There is a quick breakfast available in the hotel which is convenient and has good options, although it is not free. We also felt the hotel was secure (for a mother traveling alone with her teenaged daughter) and were comfortable walking around the area for meals.

I’m not a fan of Aloft hotels because the rooms are not designed with women in mind. For example, the bathrooms have no tubs, only showers with fixed shower heads that are not ideal for women’s bodies. The lighting is inadequate and the amenities have a distinctly masculine, not neutral scent. Avoid the body wash in the shower, it burns!
However… the front desk and housekeeping staff go above and beyond for guests. They jump in to help without having to be asked and made our stay incredibly pleasant with plenty of smiles to go around.
The location is ideal just steps from lots of restaurants, City Hall, and more. We loved the rooftop bar and pool.
Breakfast was the usual Aloft hot sandwiches or oatmeal, yogurt and cereal. Nothing special. So apart from the brand choices that are in all Aloft hotels, this particular location is cream of the crop because it is staffed by the best people.

This is a sad, shallow silly hotel.

The so-called interior design of the rooms does not look cool unless you are also a shallow silly person.

Want a place to hang towels - out of luck
Want a place for two people to sit in a two person room - out of luck.

There are plenty of square feet for these things, but the shallow silly designer had a higher esthetic.

Oh... and the breakfast advertised everywhere? Not available. As you ride the elevator, looking at pictures of hot eggs, those aren’t for you. They are a memory, or maybe a goal.

Need a room safe? We have one but it doesn’t come with batteries.

Also... no parking, no valet, no bellman. Shlep you own stuff and park elsewhere.

Did you have expectations of a Marriott branded property? You are a sad, silly person.

I stayed here with my Partner from 20th-23rd November. The room was OK and the bed was comfy,
The member of staff who was working on 20th November was lovely she was very welcoming.
That's the positives out of the way.
The communal areas and lift stunk of Marijuana every day we were their, which was unpleasant and at no point did any of the staff on duty say anything or apologise for this.
One Male front Desk staff who worked on 21st & 22nd November was extremely rude and unprofessional.
As the was no room service we asked for towels and toilet paper, he dismissed us as he was busy talking to two shady looking guys who appeared not to be staying at the hotel.
We had to go to a local supermarket to use there facilities after we had breakfast there as we didn't like the idea of having breakfast in a hotel stinking of Marijuana!!
On our way back in to the hotel the rude Male front Desk staff came over and gave us our towels, toilet paper nearly 5 hours after we asked after that we just ignored him.
We are Gold Elite Marriot Members and this was our first holiday since December 2019 and I'm certainly wouldnt reccomend staying here unless you like being ignored and like the smell of Marijuana!!
Some serious Customer Service Training is urgently needed.

Lets first start with the positives. The hotel rooms are spacious, the hotel is ideally located to visit and tour downtown Houston.

Now the review and the reason for the two. The place has a no smoking policy, but that appears to be for cigarettes not cannabis. Numerous, people were smoking or ecigertering cannabis. You can smell the cannabis on most floors, especially in the elevator, and on the 10th floor near the gym.

Some of the staff are very professional and was wonderful front desk staff. Other treated the patrons like they were an annoyance, preventing them from living their best life. At one point, i felt the person on the desk, purposefully gave me miss or limited information just to cause me difficulty. I don't know this person, and this only my second time staying in downtown Houston, so i don't understand this type of treatment.

If after my review you still chose to stay here, request extra towels, toilet paper, and anything else you may need in advance. Covid restriction, the staff does not service the rooms except for on check out. When i asked for these items, on my second day, the front desk stated i will make that request now, we waited for 30 min in our room and no one came with the requested items. We had to go out to use the toilet, and purchased the items that were needed. Surprisingly, when we returned, the front desk staff was waiting for me to arrive, to hand me a stack of towels and a role of toilet paper. Emagin how pleased i was to be handed these items in the front lobby, after we had to go out to use the toilet.

It is possible that it was just bad luck that the cannabis smokers were all about. It is possible that the front desk staff was just having a really bad day. All i can say is that i will never stay at this hotel again, or this type of hotel under the Marriott umbrella.

Upon arriving housekeeping was in the hall making things look great for arrival. Upon entering the room all seemed in order but the room was clearly worn out. The next day we never received housekeeping services even when asking for towels, cups, and trash service at the desk. Day 3 also never received housekeeping services and when asked to speak to a manager or a card with contact info we were told no one was available and there was not a manager available for us to contact. We had more than 5 families traveling to the same event that received similar disappointing service and responses when asking. The front desk and on-site bar staff were great providing check in services and serving at the bar but the over all experience was very disappointing.

We brought a group of 30 people to this hotel. It literally was the worst stay I Have ever experienced in my life. I have had better service in Third World countries. No one could tell me who the manager was. No one could give me a phone number to call about any kind of issue. Extremely understaffed. Andre (a manager) , stated that he would call me at 3 PM but never did. He was extremely rude and short and didn’t care about all of the things we went through. The amount of unprofessionalism was horrendous and trash in the lobby of the 9th floor. We had no toilet paper, towels, phone was broken, toilet paper holder was broken. We asked multiple times to have somebody come up and fix our phone. The hotel was very understaffed and there wasn’t hardly any supplies. A lot of us had to go to CVS and buy soap and different things that we needed that other hotels would have. Kris, the bartender, was very nice and he did as much as he could with the help resources that he had the hotel did not stock their bar and barely had anything there. Not his fault. Tacara was very pleasant t and nice. Victor, at the front desk did the best he could. But this hotel was very disappointing

Apart from just one Man on reception who tried to help this is one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. They offer room service every other day as this is better than non, although non is a option. The price of $12 for a small beer on the roof top was a bit over the top in my opinion. Needless to say I only had one.
The location is good but sorry to say other than Mathew on reception it was very poor service.
The room was dark and gloomy with one window that faced a blank brick wall 3’ away. The rip off at the bar did stop me even trying to use the bar or any other options for food . When will people realise if you make 98% profit on one beer it persuades you then to not spend anything with them ?

We had a great stay at the Aloft Hotel in Downtown Houston. It was a $7 Uber ride to the Astros game and an even less expensive return on a "tips only" shuttle that the front desk staff recommended. The staff is excellent. Chelsea and Flor made our stay extra special. Our room was large and clean and although others do not like the rooftop pool, I found it to be a neat place to hang out in the evening. Thank you Aloft for being so wonderful. You make it hard for me to want to stay at any other hotel. The extras make a difference.
