We’re Silver Members, so above average nights for a reviewer comparison basis. This Hampton is above average and the reviews are correct-nothing in immediate area except adjoining Denny’s, but great location to get anywhere in Houston, certainly clean, comfortable, gated/lighted complimentary parking and very friendly staff including Paige at the front desk and Nora helping with breakfast. This is our third trip to this particular Hampton and they have been great every time.
Two suggestions: 1)Upgrading to a suite for a few dollars more really is a nice option. 2)If you’re a railroad fan( I am), ask for higher floor trackside. The current UP/ex SP Los Angeles to New Orleans main line is right out your window. Probably 10 trains during the night and maybe approx 24 trains every 24 hours. If you’re not a train fan, simply ask for I-10 side room. You cannot hear the trains from the front side and I-10 noise is minimal.

I arrived early for a business trip and decided to spend couple nights here before staying at a Marriott property where the business event is being held. I must say that customer ratings usually stay true to the overall experience as this Hilton property is pretty well maintained. I booked one of their king suites and I really liked the layout of the room - rather spacious with a smart layout that includes a nice, wide desk for me to work on with my laptop.
Pros: Of course, one of Hampton Inn's selling points is their inclusive breakfast and this property also had their typical breakfast bar with ample selection of items - fresh fruits, yogurts, oatmeal, cereal and a waffle station, etc. They have a nice laundry room which I also took advantage of before heading over to the Marriott property, and they do not have a laundry facility where guests can do their own laundry.
Cons: Firm mattress makes all the difference for me so I was disappointed to see that the side of my king bed was caved in by all the guests that had stayed prior. With their coffee, let's just say I ended up getting it at other places and bringing it back to the hotel with me. Lastly, their shower-head is not detachable which was a bit surprising as well.
Overall, I had a pretty decent stay and would recommend this property to other travelers and hhonors members.

We stayed here six days. The hotel is typical for Hampton Inns with the usual free breakfast etc. No issues with the room, though the bathroom was a little dated, for example the bathtub had been refinished and the finish was pealing. The location of the hotel is between train tracks and the I-10 freeway, so a little noisy despite good sound insulation.

Stayed here for a week while traveling for work. I like the area, there are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores nearby. The hotel itself is in an odd location. It's wedged into a back lot behind a Denny's, so you have to drive through the Denny's parking lot to get to the hotel. The entrance/exit to street is also situated at an odd angle, it's almost impossible to do anything but make a right turn when exiting to the street. The rooms are aligned to that you will either have a room facing a busy street/freeway, or a room facing busy railroad tracks. Trains run all day/night/morning. My room was clean, but the TV didn't work great, the picture kept freezing and pixilating, there's no channel guide so you just have to switch through what's on. There is a mini fridge in the room, but no microwave, and no microwave in the lobby for guests to use.

The staff was friendly but the digital key did not work. First night, desk clerk said it was an ongoing issue which prompted me to report it to Hilton customer service. Property manager called and emailed the next day saying they were "working on the problem and would notify me when fixed". It never was fixed so I cited the 100% Hampton Guarantee. “Making you happy makes us happy. So, if we can make your stay better, talk to any member of our team, and we’ll make sure you’re 100% happy. GUARANTEED”. Apparently means whatever they want it to mean as there is no real policy. All I can really guarantee is I left unhappy.
Had no real other issues with the property. Deadbolt did not work but they fixed it when reported. AC worked. Shower water pressure was a little light but I don't suppose they have any control over that. Wasn't unhappy with the room or the property other than access.
Access to the property is tricky as you have to go through Denny's parking lot but it is fairly well marked.
The gated parking lot (accessed with a code or your room key I presume) is clumsy. Front parking lot and Denny's parking lot were full when I arrived which caused me to sit parked at the gate while I called and got the code from the hotel. Counted 5 cars waiting behind me before I gained access. That information could have been included in the "information for your stay" email I received prior to arrival.
If contactless check in and digital key aren't important, it's not a bad property.

You will be charged an extra $20 a day for “incidentals” to any rate you book and not be told until you arrive. I have stayed as a HH member for years at many Hampton hotels and never been charged this extra fee with no warning for when booking. Either indicate the actual rate when booking or make sure the fee is transparent. We canceled the reservation and went to a different hotel that honors the rate and amount agreed to when booking. Also, the area surrounding the hotel is not safe and the desk attendant was not very helpful or friendly.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us your feedback. Our teams work hard to provide clean rooms, friendly service, comfortable surroundings every guest, every stay. We apologize about the confusion at check in regarding the incidentals. When you check into a hotel your credit or debit card will be authorized for room and tax per night plus incidentals. Incidentals are additional charges that may occur during your stay. Incidentals amounts vary from hotel to hotel but here at the Hampton Inn & Suites Houston Heights I-10 we authorize $20 per night. If you do not occur any additional charges during your stay, your card is charged for the room and tax for your stay. Any additional amounts authorized release on back to your Credit Card Company or Bank. We hope this cleared somethings up for you and wish you safe travels on your future adventures!

It's not in city center near Galleria, so good thing is that the parking is free, and of course it is not a walking distance to Gelleria.
The place is clean enough. Didn't see any roach. Staffs are friendly. And we choose the back side of the building away from the freeway, and from the elevators/entrance, so it's quiet.
Carpet is a bit outdated, not to my liking.

The entry into this hotel sitting right atop the highway is thru a Denny’s parking lot that is packed. You don’t feel safe going out of the hotel for anything besides getting in your car. I would recommend picking a different hotel in the area!

Thank you for your recent stay here at the Hampton Inn and Suites I -10 Central. We really appreciate your taking the time to review our property. Your feedback are both very valuable to us. We are sorry to read that your stay did not go as well as we would have liked it to. While we are located in the Heights Neighborhood which is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Houston and has been undergoing revitalization over the last 10 years. We understand our location being so close to downtown Houston and right off the Highway can be intimidating if you are not familiar with large cities such as Houston. We hope in the future that you find the Hampton Inn in Houston that suits you best. We wish you safe travels on your future adventures!

Thank you for your question. Our cancellation policy is based off of the rate booking terms and conditions you choose during your stay.
I don't know. I am well above adult age
There are cabs available. It will take me about 30 minutes to get downtown depending upon traffic.
Not sure if you're asking for specific directions or best mode of transportation. We took a cab from airport - hotel costing around USD 50
