The AC Hotel by Marriott Houston Downtown is often celebrated for its exceptional service, particularly the valet staff, and its stylish, welcoming lobby atmosphere. Guests consistently commend the hotel for its cleanliness, with special mentions of pristine bathrooms and well-kept rooms. Its central location is a hit with those looking to explore downtown, though the proximity to train lines can be noisy. While the modern amenities are appreciated, some guests suggest the rooms could benefit from updates and more space. However, several travelers have expressed concerns over value, citing unexpected billing and early closures.

We booked this hotel last minute to catch an Astros game over the weekend. We usually stay on Texas St. a little closer to the ballpark, but the price for the AC Marriot was fantastic compared to where we usually stay. It's a quick 10 minute walk, too. The hotel looks recently updated, with faux wood floors in the rooms (instead of carpet, carpet and hotels doesn't really mix) and a fabulous shower. We stayed in a King city-view, but there really wasn't much of a "view" on the 7th floor. Honestly, all the buildings in the area are tall, I'm not sure if any of the rooms would have a true view of much.
Valet check in was a little unorganized, but we did arrive around 4pm when everyone else was trying to get checked in and back out into the city. All the valets were incredibly nice. There was one gentleman that went above and beyond - I wish I had caught his name. He was just incredibly polite, and when he brought our SUV down at checkout, he parked it at an angle to block traffic to make it easier to get our luggage loaded and get in the car without playing frogger.
Front desk staff was super helpful and polite, and helped check in on guests at the bar. There was only one bar tender at one point after the game and she got a little busy. They didn't hesitate to step in and help take orders and run drinks.
We'd definitely stay here again.

We really enjoyed our experience here! The hotel is in a great location in downtown Houston which was perfect for us, we were actually able to walk to a few spots instead of having to Uber everywhere. The hotel and room itself are very beautiful, the only weird part is that the bathroom door is glass and does not fully close…which isn’t the best if you need some privacy. Also, expect to be able to hear some outside noise. But the bed was so comfortable that we didn’t have any problem sleeping.

The hotel is valet only. Our valet Drew was really on top of his game and made sure we got our car very quickly. The staff was all really friendly as well.

One of the best AC Marriott properties I’ve had the pleasure of visiting.

First of all the staff is AMAZING! Everyone at the front desk was friendly, warm, genuine and really wowed me. The female bartender in the evening was also outstanding and I hope the management team will recognize their team so that they know how much guests appreciate them.

The lobby has a wonderful vibe — very comfortable, warm and inviting, and the bar and restaurant areas are no different.

The rooms are a little different from rooms at other AC Marriott properties in that the layout is a bit different, however the clean, modern European design is the same with the exact same bathroom you’ve come to expect from AC Marriott. The AC system worked perfectly (they invested in really high end AC systems for the rooms). I was next to the elevator (which I prefer not to be) and was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was.

The stand-out amenity in the room was a white noise machine on the bedside. Such a great touch in a noisy downtown area with the light rail just outside. I normally use a white noise app when I travel so this was a real treat.

There is a full service Starbucks adjacent to the lobby as well which is a huge convenience.

Thanks to the entire AC team for a job well done!

We're pleased to hear you had an enjoyable stay at the AC Hotel by Marriott Houston Downtown. It's uplifting to know that you found our front desk colleagues warm, genuine, and accommodating, and that the evening bartender managed to impress you as well. You'll be pleased to know we greatly value their contributions. Our comfortable and ambient lobby alongside thoughtfully designed rooms with their modern European aesthetic make for a truly unique stay, and it's wonderful you appreciated the layout and the AC system. We're glad you enjoyed the noise machine, finding it a special touch for ensuring a restful night’s sleep, especially amid the hustle and bustle of the city. Having a Starbucks within reach indeed adds an element of convenience, and we're delighted you made the most of it. Thank you for recognizing the effort put in by the entire team. We hope to welcome you back on your next visit to Houston.

We arrived late in the evening, and were told upon arrival that they only had one of our two rooms. Apparently, they overbooked the hotel, despite my having already checked in online. While I do understand that it was Memorial Day weekend and mistakes happen, it was the incredibly callous response by the desk manager that left me almost speechless. Here are the things that happened:

He (Joseph?) offered no apology, made no effort to solve the problem, and did not even offer something so basic as points to ameliorate the situation.

He then helpfully suggested we go somewhere else, which was three times the price per room, and then said, "As a courtesy, we will refund you your money and not charge you for tonight's stay." Really? He said that with a straight face.

The final insult was when he said that, "I was paying government rate, anyway, so what am I really complaining about?" So if I am traveling for work and pay government rate, I should not expect to have my reservation held for me? I should take what I get?

I opt to stay at Marriotts whenever possible because I like and trust the brand. This was a remarkable detour from typical good service. A hotel cannot take a reservation and then simply not have it when guests arrive. In the event that it does happen, the hotel should find rooms at a nearby hotel and pay the difference in the rate. That is basic customer service.

Nice.. and loud.
The rooms are clean & modern and the beds/pillows are very comfortable...but bring earplugs/airpods and get ready to use a white noise app.
I don't know if it was this particular weekend or if this is a weekly occurrence, but there was drag racing/loud cars in the streets until at least 2am.
The walls are somewhat thin & the front desk did make the room next to mine turn off their loud music for this weary, tired traveler.
Positives - the staff is wonderful, the rooms are impeccably clean, there's a starbucks downstairs you can order ahead from and the lounge/bar/dining area is lovely.

Right from the jump the valet service attached to the hotel was one of the worst valet services I've ever had to use. The hotel didn't have their own ramp so we were obligated to use it. Every single day I would request for the car to be ready about 20-30 minutes before I came down and every single day it was late and therefore made my friends and I late to our reservations. The valet team had poor communication amongst each other and at one point couldn't even locate our car. It was incredibly inconvenient and one of the most annoying things I had to experience. Another issue was the housekeeping and staff in the hotel. We did not receive housekeeping once during our 4 night stay and were told we'd receive housekeeping every other night. The front desk staff rarely answered the phone and when we requested new towels (since housekeeping never came) we were told to come downstairs and grab it ourselves. Their was only one staff person on site which was incredibly dangerous considering the amount of homeless people outside. Overall 1/10 and although the hotel is beautiful, the experience is not worth it.

The hotel is what you should expect from the AC brand, clean, and generally modern style. Both a bar and Starbucks in the lobby for convenience. Location is really good in central downtown for business needs, although the train/light rail right outside is audible inside of the rooms. There's a good bar next door (The Flying Saucer) and an upscale food court right across the street.

Beware that the hotel has some non-standard billing practices that created quite a bit of hassle for me throughout the week (and on Expense Reports). They bill the first night fee 2 days in advance of arrival (not an authorization/hold, an actual billing). In this case, they billed a personal card rather than my business one. I asked the front desk everyday of my stay to undo that charge and convert to the business card, and not a single employee was able to do so. I've never witnessed a practice like that at any other Marriott branded hotel in 15 years of near weekly business travel. Normal practice would be to bill the first night in the event of a no-show....not 2 days before the stay.

I do not recommend this hotel for several reasons: 1.) They only offer housekeeping every other day, but don’t explain this to you at check in and when you ask, front desk can’t tell you which days it is provided. 2.) The thermostats in the rooms are low budget and don’t work. When I came back to my room after my first day, my thermostat dropped down to 62 degrees and my room was freezing. I bumped it up to 72 degrees but it only reach 67. I spent the night huddled under the covers like I was trapped in a blizzard. 3.) As a Titanium Elite, they do not offer you F&B credit or breakfast benefits at check in, you have to ask for them and the staff are hesitant to provide them. Overall, way below standard for Marriott Bonvoy members. 4.) Poor soundproofing on all sides - no matter what floor you are on you will hear light rail like it’s right outside your window, and interior walls are thin too. I frequent Houston on business and will not stay here again.

The AC Downtown Houston has two things going for it—the location and the interior looks great in photos. Other than that, it was a major disappointment and frankly the entire vibe was just sketchy.

The staff was nice, but unpolished and unprofessional. There was a security guard posted at the front door who was eating takeout food every time I came and left. One morning one of the employees had their two small children running around the lobby and their entire team was much more interested in taking care of them than assisting guests.

My room on the sixth floor was incredibly noisy—from the transit in front, other rooms and the hallway, and the air conditioning. The air conditioning was very hard to manage—there are a number of unmarked buttons to control the fan speed that can only be discovered by randomly pressing on the control panel.

The mattress was saggy and too soft, and the sheets were scratchy. The TV in my room froze for over an hour each night and was non functional. The toiletries felt there at a motel quality level.

Would avoid this hotel if at all possible, it was not a pleasant place to come back to each day. I was very happy to check out.

Although this hotel is very nice inside, they are challenged by every other aspect. The best service was from the valet gentleman and the young lady that checked us in. It went downhill quickly. We are Marriott Elite members and this hotel had the worst service we have ever experienced at a Marriott brand hotel. Their were 10 of us on a Saturday night prior to our Galveston cruise. Hotel was not too busy and it took over an hour and a half to receive our meal. No silverware, even after we asked several times. We had to bus our own table but they did give each person 50% off their meal in the end. Women bartender started our good and then had an attitude. The room was nice but noisy even on the 10th floor. Starbucks was good. Coffee cups in the room had holes in them, that was a mess. Maybe on business during the week is fine but not a weekend. And the tv in the room WOUKD not stay on, when I called downstairs to ask, a polite gentleman said he would fix it in 30-40 minutes when he could find someone to cover for him. We fixed it ourselves by playing with the wires. But then only Netflix worked. This is my first time writing a hotel review. I would not stay here again.
