We stayed in the 1 King Bed 1 Bedroom Suite, which was pretty interesting. It has a living area with a couch and desk with a TV. Also the room has two bathrooms, One in the living area and one in the bed room area. The rooms are not separated by walls or a door. It is pretty much open concept with very little separation between the rooms. They do not have parking but there is a Valet who will park your car for a per night charge. We didn't get to eat the food as the restaurant and room-service was unavailable because of Covid-19. But the front desk does have a convenience store to buy snacks and drinks. The room and bed were comfortable, but the only complaint I had was right across the street a lot of homeless people were hanging around and sleeping on the side walks. Other then that, it is a pretty nice hotel to stay at for a couple of nights.

I realized their 2 sanitizer dispensers in the hotel lobby all run out of sanitizers when we checked in, so I told the front desk about this.
Nothing changed until we checked out 2 days later.
I think this is the basic requirement during the pandemic for a so called 4 star hotel, they failed on this.
There are some homeless people around the corner, but they don't bother you.

We traveled to Houston to visit our daughter and stayed at the Sam Houston downtown. It was a great location and the hotel was historic looking and well kept. We were a little surprised that there was no cleaning service available so we did our own bed making and towel changing, etc. It wasn't bad at all and the room was so clean at our arrival it was easy to keep it that way. These pandemic times are difficult and it shows in the service areas, on airlines, restaurants and at the Sam Houston. People did the best they could with a friendly, helpful attitude and I hope life gets back to a more normal for them and for all of us.

Stayed here in our way to Galveston for a cruise. Location was good however not knowing Houston I might have preferred to be closer to the action. But this was still a 10 minute walk to the busy area. The hotel itself is awesome. Great service, very nice rooms. Our air conditioning was stuck on and freezing n our room and the front desk sent a gentleman to fix it and he had it done in 5 minutes. Would definitely recommend.

The Sam is a historic property located in the Houston historic district. Rooms are updated, immaculate and comfortable and they have an awesome bar and restaurant which I have reviewed separately. The true gem here is the staff. From valet to food and beverage to front desk, this team is beyond friendly and makes you feel at home. They have great recommendations and we enjoyed all of our interactions with them. The two young ladies at breakfast are a true pleasure to work with and we had a great time chatting with the food and beverage manager who gladly whipped up cocktails to our special specifications. To be honest, the streets surrounding the hotel are beset with homeless and right or wrong it distracts and is a-bit off putting, but the hotel is safe and the staff are sensitive. The hotel is dog friendly and there is green space around the courthouse on the next block. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and would stay here again- especially for the people

The towels smelled like vinegar, no bathroom counter space. And the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor. The restaurant "The Pearl" is great for cocktails and the first dinner I had was good. But the second night I had to send it back and was afraid to order a replacement meal. The desserts were stale both nights. However the bartender "Le Tigre" is the best and deserves five stars.

From the moment you walk in the lobby you know you’re in trouble. The very large brown pleather couch is so old it flakes off on your clothes. You will be unable to regulate the shower water temperature, so plan on freezing water mixed occasionally with boiling water. The hotel rooms smell like they are part of the 200 year history of the hotel. The digital key will never work for your room, so save yourself a trip back down to the desk and just get the traditional key cards. Avoid this place if at all possible!

Apparently, the management thought it was a smart cost control measure to leave the AC off in the unoccupied rooms . . . in Houston where the humidity is high and ever-present. Mildew, damp, smelly. No food service in hotel.

It’s a 20 minute cab ride from IAH airport
Cab was $70
I’m from NYC and that’s even astronomical to me.
Arrived Sunday @ 6pm. Bar and restaurant were both closed.
Was promptly checked in and told due to Covid they were short staffed and there would be no housekeeping unless I requested them.
Room looked like the pictures
Chaise lounge was dirty and had stains on it and was very used. I covered it with a sheet because I couldn’t sit on it.
Lighting in bathroom was atrocious
No mini fridge and no room service
Ate at the bar and restaurant- drinks were delicious but the food was super greasy. Eggs shouldn’t be soaked in oil.
Bar closed at 10pm
Was overcharged $100 for my room.
They corrected it.

The Sam does not have a shuttle to the airport. They typically recommend Uber as the least expensive way.

I walked by myself on Saturday morning from the hotel all the way to the convention center. There was one person who may have been trying to get my attention but ignoring and walking on worked just fine. I never felt threatened.
