Hotel ZaZa Houston Museum District stands out for its unique and eclectic atmosphere, with a decor that blends hip vibes with a moody gothic Victorian flair, providing a setting that has been praised for both its energy and relaxation. While some travelers have voiced concerns over unexpected costs and dimly lit rooms, the hotel's prime location is a hit for those looking to explore museums and the Houston area.
Guests commend the cleanliness of the premises and the exceptional service, though a few have experienced slower service. The amenities, including the restaurant, bar, and shuttle service, are frequently highlighted as highlights of their stay.

In a nutshell, the most basic rooms are immaculate with comfortable beds and good water pressure – upgrade from there to some of the most eclectic spaces you can imagine. The restaurant has a diverse menu, and the bar has lots of original cocktails. The pool has plenty of umbrellas but not too many chairs to feel crowded and has a bar/bar menu that means you can stay all day. The location is close to several museums, the zoo, and other popular spots. You can walk or request to be driven via an elite SUV (maybe driven by Mo, if you are lucky!). Already sounds like the perfect place to stay, right?
My husband and I live outside the loop so whenever we attend an event or have some other reason to drive into town, we like to stay overnight and make a stay-cation out of it. We’ve bounced around hotels for years depending on what was closest to whatever we were doing until we stayed at Hotel ZaZa for the first time in January. We were so impressed with the staff and accommodations that we actually cancelled dinner reservations elsewhere just to dine at the Monarch. We were not disappointed – the food is amazing! We haven’t had anything we didn’t like yet, but I highly recommend the lamb lollipops. Truth be told, Will was our server when we stopped by for cocktails on our way to an outside restaurant and he was the reason we stayed there for dinner instead. Will is truly a gem and we look for him whenever we stay at ZaZa now which has become at least every other month or so. I think he recognizes us despite the crowds that come and go, but maybe it’s just because he knows how to make every person he serves feel valued.
Since our first stay this year, we have looked for excuses to return because we know we will have a good experience. Have things ever gone wrong? Yes – our room’s AC went out during our last stay but when the cause couldn’t be immediately rectified, we were moved to another room on the spot. Hotel ZaZa’s employees are empowered to make things right promptly and make right things better somehow. That doesn’t seem to be the “norm” anymore so when you find a place like Hotel ZaZa, you don’t want to stay anywhere else. Again, it’s that feeling of being valued as a customer. We’re looking at our calendars now to schedule more stay-cations in the near future!

Very large and stylish hotel directly across the street from the Museum of Fine Arts. Parking is by valet but is included in the cost of the room if you join their hotel group which is free. Our room was quite comfortable and had a small balcony. A large nightstand between the queen beds had a power strip on one side with power and USB ports. I accidentally disconnected the clock from it and was unable to reset it as the buttons were incomprehensible. There was a very large desk, flatscreen and fully stocked refrigerator and pantry in the room along with a very nice highly rated split of red wine as well. No coffee maker in the room but a huge butler station just outside the elevators on our floor had coffee, teas, hot water etc. more than makes up for that.
The bathroom had a large shower (no tub) and a well lighted mirror over the sink with plenty of space for toiletries. They provide a hair dryer and also a lighted shaving/makeup mirror. The only negative is that there is no exhaust fan, just a passive vent. The provided high quality shower shampoo conditioner and body wash.
The hotel cafe opens at 630 for breakfast. We had fresh orange juice and oatmeal served in giant portions- probably 3 times what I’d normally eat.
The hotel lobby and decorations are very eclectic. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. If we return to Houston there would be no reason to stay anywhere else. Very highly recommended.

This hotel was really impressive as soon as I walked into lobby. Staff said hello and greeted my wife and I with wine. The lobby had a nice young and hip vibe with music. Sometimes gave a jazzy feel with live piano jazz. We ate at the monarch restaurant a few times where the food was tasteful and prepped well. The ambiance in monarch is well done. Our rooms were clean and neat. My only complaint was the lighting in the room as it tends to be dark. The decor was fabulous though. I was really happy with my stay. Please consider this place if you are looking into a small- medium boutique style hotel with excellent service with an eclectic rock n roll style ambiance.

After a 10 hours flight I arrived at 15:15 and I was asked to wait an hour to get a room booked weeks before…which I refused. I told the attendant that I was not at all pleased with this service.
Instead of repeating like a mantra « sorry about that » : changing the rules, having more housekeepers could be a solution , but it has a cost this hotel clearly doesn’t not want to pay.
Checking out is at 12: so normally « early » check in , 3/4 of an hour before in my case, should not have been a problem ….
When asked to pay, I was not told that they charged 300 dollars more « in case I ate twice the content of the mini bar … »…and had to ask for an explanation…this was « too much » for the attendant »…she just left me…
The very stiff and unsmiling manager took over. The only light smile I got was when my card went through…
The less I could say is that I did not really feel welcomed…
Maybe to have more experienced and professional people at the reception could be an option, and to better train them when they have to cope with a very explainable difficult customer…..
I did have a room with a balcony but I got the worst view of the hotel: on an very ugly parking place…a very mean revenge for my not being pleased and my not submissive attitude.
By the way: it is so noisy on the balcony, that is not worth it….no view and permanent noise….
So AVOID this place and find somewhere else more friendly and probably less expensive

PhilippeMParis, Thank you for your post and speaking with me recently. I apologize for your frustration, but I believe that my team handled themselves correctly due to the circumstances. After reviewing the cameras, you received your keys in 10 minutes after your initial interaction. The agent gave you several options for early check-in which you adamantly refused. There may be been some misunderstandings of different procedures like the incidental authorization which is a very common practice. The manager called the next day to check on you and was told that everything was fine. If there was any issue with the room placement or etc., the team would have corrected it immediately. We take a lot of pride of going above and beyond for all our customers regardless of the situation. I’m sorry that you didn’t like Houston as a whole. We wish you the best in the future. Best, Ian H. We travel to Houston multiple times a year and decided to give this hotel a try based on the location near beautiful Hermann Park and the photos on the website which looked so nice.
We arrived to the hotel at 5pm after a long day of travel and meetings and our room was not ready yet and we were told there were no other rooms available. You never get a second chance to make a first impression and that was a disappointing one.
Once we got to our room it was even worse. It was the darkest, dingiest hotel suite I’ve probably ever seen and it looked absolutely nothing like the suite photos I’d seen online. We called the front desk and they offered to show us another suite. Turns out the 11th floor where our original room was is all “themed” suites which I do not recommend. The suite we were moved to (turns out there were other rooms available) looked more like what we were expecting but still not as nice. It was older and seemed clean but even with all the lights on the rooms are dark. There was a balcony with chairs but the sliding door was sealed shut.
The reason I’m giving this hotel 2 stars instead of 1 is because the staff of the hotel and restaurant were excellent. All very kind and accommodating and the food was good.
We would go back to the restaurant and nice patio but won’t be staying there again.

The Hotel ZaZa is in a great location. Other than that, it has many flaws. Here are a couple of examples:
1. The front desk staff is clueless. One example: when I asked which exit went out to Main Street, the woman could not tell me. Another example: the front desk staff told me there were two shuttles and I should come down at 7 for a 7:15 dinner reservation 10 minutes away, but when I came down at 6:55 they told me there had been only one shuttle for a long time and it would be a 20 minute wait, meaning I had to call an Uber.
2. I like to take the stairs up to my room sometimes, but the only staircase in the hotel that goes from the lobby to the guest floors, staircase D, is behind a door with no handle. The woman at the desk said that you have to pry it open.
3. I had a very spacious 2-room setup (room 424), but there was not a single chair in either room and no desk. To work on my computer, I had to drag over the heavy coffee table to use as a chair while I used the end table as a desk.
For a hotel this expensive (averaged $600 a night including taxes and valet), I expected a lot more function. Style is great, but a basic level of competence would be night. As another reviewer wrote, it seems like the hotel is designed and run by people who have never stayed in a hotel room.

The Zaza is close to everything - Rice, the Medical Center, the Museum District, Hermann Park, midtown, and downtown. It has upscale appointments, an excellent bar/restaurant for business meetings, and well-equipped events spaces.
What really stands out about the Zaza, though, is it's style! Every room is uniquely decorated with pictures of celebrities from film and stage. Staying here always feels like stepping into the golden age of Hollywood - and each stay in each room is unique.
On top of it all, their staff goes above and beyond to make you feel like the most important guest in the world. 5/5 would recommend!

The ZaZa Museum District is THE place to stay for a luxurious romantic getaway in Houston. The hotel is in a great location in the heart of the museum district, extremely close to the Toyota Center and a host of other event venues and great restaurants. The pool is a happening place on the weekends, with delicious food and varied drink service available upon request, and complementary sunscreen (when have you seen THAT?) was a very nice touch. Around the pool are permanent gazebos with TV’s, making it the ultimate hangout for mixed marriages between sun worshippers who want a base of operations and sports fans who want to stay close to family while staying cool.
The vibe in the hotel itself is appropriately quiet and classy, with a fantastic free butler pantry with coffee and tea on each floor. We stayed in the beautiful West Indies Concept Suite, with a full living room with separate TV, kitchenette, and a nice little balcony where we enjoyed a delicious welcome gift following our night on the town. The Magnificent Seven 900 sq ft suites are even more impressive. Two bedroom Magnificent Seven Suites are also available.
The valet was efficient and fast, and the concierge was knowledgeable and helpful with dinner options. ZaZas are all pet friendly, and while we saw a very well-behaved dog in the lobby, we never felt that we were anywhere but a luxury hotel.
We live in Austin and love the ZaZa there, but we now plan to make visiting ALL locations our mission since our stays are inevitably first rate! Highly recommend!

The service at the ZaZa is great from the moment you drive up. They handle the car and bags, with the text sign-in, they already had all the information they needed and just welcomed us, explained their services and handed us our key. Included in the services, the ZaZa will drive you where you need to go within 3 miles, so chauffeur service for downtown attractions. The rooms are incredible. We stayed in the Splendito Suite which is like having your own luxury apartment with living and dining room. We had a great room service breakfast at the dining table - very nice. The "well stocked bar" is old school hospitality - providing beer, small champagne bottle or cold drinks and snacks at reasonable restaurant prices. The stay at the ZaZa is just a total package of luxury, ease and comfort. ZaZa will be a regular stop on our trips to the coast.
One of the nicest features, is the availability the 2 dozen different style rooms, allowing for a range of prices from just over $200 to the Magnificent Seven which are over the top luxury. The Suites though are the sweet spot (no pun intended), the rooms offer incredible luxury, style and size if you choose for a price pretty close to a room at the typical downtown hotels. And the ZaZa is a far from typical as is possible. Be sure and check out the ZaZa, you will enjoy.

We enjoyed the walkable location for visiting museums and appreciated the hotel transport (within 3 mile radius), although this was very busy at times. There is an elevator into the hotel to the right of valet, if you need an accessible entry (at least 3 steps to lobby from front of hotel). Coffee/tea (as well as oat milk and almond milk) was provided on each floor in the morning. We believe early morning fruit and trail mix bars are available in the lobby. The dinner in the hotel restaurant was just okay so we ventured out to Lucilles and Sushi as better alternatives (also walkable for us). We did enjoy the breakfast (tacos, pancakes) in the hotel. The room was made up quickly each day and other than lukewarm water in the shower on our last morning, thought that this was a wonderful stay.

They have special themed suites. I think that there are only two with hot tubs outdoors
The shuttle goes within five miles of hotel.
Yes the downtown area is close enough ... they will drive you there. Be sure to tip the driver. It's not a standard shuttle it's a very fancy SUV with longhorns on the front ... it's fun.
$35 or less. There are no other real options close. Just put it in the budget or Uber/Lyft. If It makes sense.
