Very sharp, brand new tower rooms. Loved the small, vibrant bar. Staff very professional. Great artwork and outdoor area. Valet was a bit overwhelmed. Surrounding neighborhood has tons to offer and location is very convenient to everything “inside the loop”. Great place to stay rather than downtown more generic hotels.

From the moment we booked our stay, the service was unbelievable! Our stay included a birthday dinner with family in Houston, and a next day tour of the art district very close to La Colombe d'Or - I would say, with a location in the heart of the art district. I called at least 3 times to ask details and was accomodated for every request including parking. We received a complementary beverage (I chose prosecco!) as we waited for check in, which was extremely fast. We asked for a tour of the property, including art viewing and a beautiful sunset view! The consierge was very gracious and gave us an amazing tour, including taking pictures for us!
The room was exquisite, with a beautiful contemporary feel, combined with some original artwork. We enjoyed all the original artwork that is displayed in the room and throughout the entire facility.
The bed, pillows and bedding were dreamy! What a treat! We had a fabulous sleep.
There are complimentary cookies, fruit, snacks, chocolate, water, beverages, and Nespresso coffee right outside of the room (we stayed in the Renoir Room in the Mansion). We chose cookies, chocolate and coffee!
What I liked best was the feeling of being pampered (I was treated like a celebrity, and I am so not one.....!)
There is nothing that I didn't like about this stay.
We will be back! Cheers and Congrats to the owners, staff and management on a great experience!

We loved the mansion and our room. The design is gorgeous and the atmosphere in the bar is excellent. We’ll definitely be back, but the noise from the lobby and street is definitely an issue when you’re trying to go to sleep.

We asked for and received earplugs from the concierge, who also offered to let us sleep in the modern residences next door that night. We opted to stay in our room and the earplugs helped. The second morning, someone in the Monet room slept through 6 alarms on their phone, starting at 5am. They must have had the volume on their phone turned all the way up because it woke me up in our room down the hall.

One other small issue - the pillows in our room were king sized and very hard. Neither of us could get comfortable, and we probably should have asked for standard sized pillows. However, neither of these issues is reason for us to give the hotel a bad rating. We still loved it!

When we visit again, we’ll book in the residences instead of the mansion and ask for softer, smaller pillows.

Dear Sohaus225 Thank you for your review. We made a number of sound insulation adaptations during the full renovation of the Mansion last year, but it seems it may not have been enough. We are now looking at taking additional measures. Indeed, we have several other rooms and suites in the Tower as well as nine Bungalows that are certainly quieter and quaint if you wish to try them on your next visit. We thank you again for your comments and understanding; we look forward to seeing you back again soon. Warmest regards Sergio

At these prices I was hoping for a seamless luxury hotel experience (a la the Nomad in L.A., now sadly closed), but there were too many errors for a return visit.

We reserved a two room suite in the tower and we were so preoccupied with getting to Minute Maid park we didn’t realize it was an A.D.A. Room and the shower was tiny, with a wooden seat in it. After the game I called the front desk and the guy at the front desk saved me a lot of grief, insisting to the supervisor (on the phone) that we wanted a two room suite in the tower at no extra charge. Supervisor was being dishonest in telling his staff member that there were no two room suites available, and then so short sighted there was some talk of us paying the difference on the higher rate. We eventually were shown a two room suite and that fit the bill.

If you do make a reservation make sure and disable or rotate the automatic lights in the closets so the sensor doesn’t turn on a light shining in your wife’s face at 3pm when you go to the bathroom. There was clearly a lot of thought that went into the design, which was for the most part stellar, but they over thought this feature. The automatic light on the bedside table was stuck and on all the time so I unplugged that. For some reason, the designers forgot to include more than one hook in the bathroom.

The gal at the front desk when we checked in was very nice and even showed us to our room and carried a piece of luggage, but the hotel has an app you are supposed to download to get information, so you are told nothing when you check in, and there is zero information in the room (or on the TV) regarding dining hours, ect. Look for the advance email with the app. It would have been helpful if this staff member had realized this was an ADA room and we were not disabled. Carrying you luggage around at 10pm at night looking for another room was a horrible way to start.

The pool looks nice but it’s not exceptional (no umbrellas). The cafe and bar were stellar, they are in the original mansion with lots of ambience and outstanding service. These are worth a visit on their own.

Dear Johnny ATX, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for the helpful, earnest feedback. We are terribly sorry about the confusion with the room type. I do not think there was any dishonesty in anyone's part though, just lack of clarity and misinformation with our staff. Nonetheless it should not have been problematic to find a suitable room that meet your needs and desires. We are finalizing our app deployment as we tweak some final details; we are glad to know that it is of interest to you. As for the malfunctioning automatic lights in the closets, I think you are correct that this feature, while well-intended, probably was over designed. We are looking for options to allow our guest to control this more easily. We are glad to know that you enjoyed and appreciated out excellent restaurant, Tonight & Tomorrow. It is really extraordinary. We hope to see you back soon. Please feel free to reach to me if you wish to further review your experience with us: sergio@lacolombedor.com. Kind regards Sergio

La Columbe d’Or is the perfect place to stay in Houston. (We stayed there for 5 nights - with my mom as an outpatient at MD Anderson).

This property is beautiful and unique, mixing history and modern living resulting in the very best for todays luxury standards. The Mansion bar for drinks is awesome (excellent bartenders - Jose was our fave) and the dining area & food is delicious.

My mom and I stayed in a suite on the main level in the tower. It is a beautifully appointed spacious suite with wonderful furnishings, bedding, and is well laid out with a comfortable seating area plus a 1/2 bath. The main bathroom has a fantastic tub, double vanities, large walk in shower & the bed, pillows and linens are superb. The staff is friendly, professional and the owner of the entire property is present often, which gives the feeling you are in someone’s home, not just (another typical ) hotel. The art from the owners collection is featured in every room of the Mansion, the Tower, and the Bungalos (which are all two levels, upstairs to the bedroom). La Columbe d’Or is an art-lovers dream and it’s worth taking the time to walk the entire property to view. The pool has a fabulous view of downtown Houston which is worth the trip to the 10th floor, even if swimming is not in your plans. We will return to Houston soon and plan to stay at La Columbe d’Or again!

We absolutely loved our stay at La Colombe – The building, decor and art was all so beautiful. Everything was perfectly clean, and the staff was very thoughtful. The outdoor spaces were beautiful, and we loved spending time by the quiet pool in the mornings.

Two minor notes:
1, Some moments with the staff felt a little awkward. There seemed to be some bumpy miscommunication between concierge, dining and valet. I don't think this was anyone's fault, except for perhaps an absent manager? There seemed to be a lack of leadership and the place just felt a little awkwardly new, like they were still figuring out some kinks.
2, At night, the bar seemed to attract some interesting folks who kind of brought down the elevated vibe in a way. I know you can't control this, but it did seem like some seemed to be friends with the staff. The music selection felt more clubby than elegant, and we were underwhelmed by the (very pricy but not really valuable) wine selections.

Would have also been nice to have something included for breakfast.

Those were the only negatives, and didn't majorly inconvenience us in any way. Just some things we noticed considering the price tag. Would be happy to give the hotel another shot and hope to see some of these things resolve!

Dear 303eryns Thank you so much for your very valuable feedback. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and our beautiful hotel. Although we opened about one year ago, staff training is always ongoing and there is always a manager on duty, perhaps they were not able to be as visible on this occasion as they typically like to be. Thank you also for your comments about the bar and the vibe. Well noted and addressed. We hope to see you back again soon. Warmest regards Sergio

We stayed in the bungalows. The space itself was ideal for the two of us because we have one who goes to bed early and one who does not. It was like having a 1BR apartment. I will say, though, that I was surprised when I had to cross the street to access our room from the main hotel. The street was never busy but it would definitely be a pain if traveling with small children.

The bungalows are older apartments that have been thoughtfully and well renovated. Owing to their age, the temperature control was a bit lacking and we were in Houston on a cold weekend. It wasn't a problem per se, more of an inconvenience. But I add that mainly in case someone stays there in summer and the units have a challenge cooling down.

The staff was attentive and gracious. The main house is spectacular. The art! My companion said she felt like we were in a small hotel in Europe. (Until we looked outside! Ha!)

We did not dine onsite at any point but the bar and restaurant are both lovely.

Hat tip to the valet services -- they have a challenge due to the shape of the property and location and it was always a pleasant interaction for us.

It's not a 5 rating because of minor quibbles. The water pressure in the shower was very low, which is not something you expect in a luxury spot, especially not at this price point. There were issues with my keys. That sort of thing.

But I would absolutely book another stay. The location is fabulous.

Came back for a birthday stay in the Mansion and enjoyed the new bar service at the pool and dinner at Tonight & Tomorrow. The pool waitstaff were very helpful and attentive as they provided us delicious drinks and food. Dinner was fantastic and enjoyed fresh cocktails at the bar. First time to stay in the mansion rooms and it was fun to feel a part of the action while enjoying the luxurious rooms. As always, the people here are the friendliest and provide top tier service. The hotel is close for easy stops to the museum district and a few blocks away from area nightlife. We recommend to our friends and keep coming back.

The Cezanne room of the historic mansion was lovely and spacious…but very loud. So tho the bed was comfy, we’d have slept better if they’d provided ear plugs. All the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Fantastic location just a short walk to The Menil Collection and Rothko Chapel. Maybe unique to the mansion rooms: Despite being listed in the amenities, there was no in-room coffee maker, but beverages were available in the common area on our floor.

We found La Colombe d'Or when looking for a quality hotel to stay at near MD Anderson clinic. After a night at the nearby Marriot Medical Center (clean, basic but the smallest bathroom in a major hotel I've ever encountered) we switched to La Colombe.

Truly one of the most cozy and distinctive hotels I've ever stayed at. The owner has a terrific sense of design and has filled the mansion and nearby tower with an eclectic collection of modern and impressionist paintings and sculpture. Fantastic flair. We stayed on the ground floor of the luxury apartment tower which is just behind the mansion - a lovely room full of light and creative touches. The restaurant is just a few steps away and was another memorable experience. Excellent food and friendly service.

Be sure to walk upstairs at the mansion to see the brilliant way they've reimagined the original large Victorian'ish bedrooms - which are now suites. Also, take a look at the incredible pool and residential shared spaces on the 10th floor of the tower.

I'm running out of positive adjectives to describe this place. Needless to say I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Houston. Oh, the room prices are probably half of what you' spend in LA or NY - and seemed like quite a deal to this southern Californian.
