I would highly recommend a stay at the Pousada Tropical Araçatiba. Andrade and his team were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much bother. We were greeted at the pier and our luggage was carried to our rooms. Once we were settled in Andrade went through and explained the best walking routes from the hotel and booked our transfers to rio for a very reasonable price. However, the main highlight for me was the food, especially as I am a vegan. Andrade cooked me the most fabulous meals including vegan steaks with plenty of delicious accompaniments such as beans, rice, salad and an amazing home-made vegan Parmesan. He even made me my own Tapioca for breakfast, even though there was plenty of other bits on offer in the breakfast buffet including a very yummy vegan cake! My friend who is not vegan loved the fish and had the best orange cake he had tasted in his life. The accommodation is simple but lovely and is a few steps away from a beautiful beach which is easily accessible by water taxi. The hotel has very good air conditioning, a small but lovely pool and is exceptionally clean. If I ever return to Ilha Grande I will be staying here again.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was a good experience. The hostel itself is pretty basic with the rooms having a bed, chest of drawers, mini fridge and a small bathroom.
We are vegetarian and Andrade was able to organise vegetarian food to be made off menu, such as vegetable pasta, vegetable soya meat with rice and beans, salad, chips, pizza etc. The breakfast was a good selection with coffee, eggs, fruit, bread, cakes and fresh fruit juices. We ate mainly at the pousada and the food was always good and in good size portions. Andrade also helped us to organise our travel from Rio to the pousada and back which was a 3 hour bus ride to Angra dos Reis port and then a 30 minute boat journey. The pousada was a nice relaxing place to visit to get away from the busy city but we had to shower in lukewarm/cold water for the duration of our trip which was a bit of a let down.

We had an amazing 5-nights stay at Pousada Tropical Araçatiba.
Before arriving, Andrade helped is arranging transport from Rio to his beautiful paradise.
During our stay Andrade, Ivan and the other staff provided us with the best service we've ever had! (Thanks again).
Pousada Tropical Araçatiba is the place to stay on the island. It's not located in Abraão, but for us this resulted in a peaceful relaxing holiday.
We can also highly recommend Andrade's cooking skills. The food from the menu was really great and full of taste. For breakfast, the buffet is really extended, with a lot of Brazilian food as well.
The first 2 days we had a lot of rain, but the island provides nice hiking routes. Afterwards we had a lot of sun. From Araçatiba it's also possible to visit other beaches, by hiking or by boat tour (Lopes Mendes, Abraão, Lagoa Azul,...). Even with the boat tours they are willing to help organizing this.
The rooms are clean, with a hot shower and everything needed for a perfect stay.
Check out this beautiful paradise when thinking of going to Ilha Grande!

Amazing pousada in a perfect location in Aracatiba with short walking to the beach, nice trails, lagoons and the village itself. Amazing breakfast with lovely fruit, coffee, eggs and cakes. Andregy, the manager/owner is the nicest man ever, super helpful and very happy to help with anything. Highly recommended place!

The worst place in the world and the owner ( the man introduced himself in Portuguese as Andre or Andrade) is a CROOK.
When we arrived, it occured that the pousada is not by the sea (as advertised) but high on the hill to which led many uneven and slippery steps with rotten leaves on them. When we entered the room, we got a shock. Dark, filthy dirty and with broken furniture. We asked for a different room. Unfortunately it was very similar, but at least we were closer to the room of our friends, because we did not feel safe there. The other room was also very dirty and additionally water was dripping from the ceiling directly onto our bed. I slept on my own beach towel because the linen on the bed was disgusting.
My friends had the same feelings, so we decided to leave the place as quickly as possible. The owner told us that we would have to pay for one night but no problem with the checkout on the next day.
When we wanted to check out, he told us that we would have to pay for another night. because otherwise he will not let us go.
Horrible experience and I want to warn everybody not to book at this pousada.

We spent 3 days in this pousada and it was like in paradise! Hidden in a jungle but close to a quiet Aracatiba beach so you can rest of bustle and noise of big cities. You can hike or have a boat trip to different bays, beaches and lagunas, have a snorkeling and swim with colorful fishes.
The owners and staff are very helpful and willing. I was nervous of how would we get to the island, where to put a car ets, so I texted to the hotel on the website and the owner The owners and staff are very helpful and willing, we were nervous of how would we get to the island, where to put a car ets, so I texted to the hotel on the website and the owner Andrade immediately replied and helped me to organize a parking and a boat. The staff guy Ivan speaks English and helped us with any requests, trust me it is really not typically for small hotels in Brazil and really appreciated.
Rooms a simple but are equipped with air conditioner, ventilation and a fridge. The disadvantage is the shower: it's not hot enough and very weak.
Breakfast offers you lot of fruits, different tasty pastry and squeezed juices. Dinner was obviously the best we had in Brazil, I compare to what we ate in Sao Paulo, Iguasu, Paraty and Rio.
3 cutest dogs and beautiful blue-eyed cat live in a hotel. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Ilha grande overall and Pousada Tropical to visit.

Everything was so great, wonderful and beautiful. This is the true paradise... Andrade, the owner of the place, was so helpful. He helped us to organise our arrival from our hotel in Rio to his Pousada (3h car + 20 minutes boat ride) which make our trip easier. On our arrival we discovered a beautiful island, Andrade offers us directly a fresh glass of water which was so appreciate after this long trip. The room was clean and the ac worked really well. We also did a one day tour of the islands nearby (booked directly at the reception) which was perfect, the guys on boat were so kind, the islands were beautiful and we had the chance to swim with turtle!!!! We really recommend this place where everything is peaceful and special mention also for the food served it was absolutely delicious...

an inn that deserves 5 stars! We highlight Andrade's attention and service. All the details, from welcoming us at the dock with Leo, to all their suggestions, their SUCCESSFUL breakfasts, the permanent kindness of Maria, Leo and Andrade make this Inn a place that you will want to return to. The cleanliness, the order, the garden, the pool. all excellent. A calm place, surrounded by nature, steps from the beach, and very close to tourist places that we did walking through the jungle, without risks. All suggested by Andrade, who gives you details of everything! We had some days of rain. and although the power went out (something normal that happens on the island) Andrade has a generator (few do). The time of late November is very good. Few people, beautiful weather. We were there 8 days! and everything was fantastic. Andrade helps you with the tourist trips, manages everything!.... we left to RETURN!... we will be there again!. Thanks for much love!. Meli and Die.
