Decent hotel, professional staff who are happy communicating in English. We were on a half board (Breakfast and Dinner included) tariff and the food was pleasant and the 4 course dinner included wine and coffee. Breakfasts were simple but adequate.
Nice rooms overlooking the river, decent size, clean and comfortable.
Hotel location is good and the small town of Le Buge has most vacilities and makes a decent base.

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights on a bundled tour which included accommodation, set meals and some excursions.

I had a single room (double bed) which was spacious with lots of storage and a newly renovated shower room and separate WC. It seems all the roioms have either shower or bath but not both so if you have a major preference for one or the other it would be best to state this when booking. My room overlooked the road but I didn't find this noisy and slept with the window open most nights. There was a slightly discordant selection of furniture and decoration in the room but not in an unpleasant way. It made it feel like a sort of individual, very French hotel rather than typical of a large chain.

The rooftop pool was absolutely lovely and there was a large sun terrace up there too. There is a bar on this terrace level but it is not permanently staffed so you ring reception from the internal phone if you want anything. Not a problem. There are great views from the rooftop down the river and of the bridge and town square.

Food was above average, considering we were on an inclusive tour. In fact the food was very good other than the first night when the chicken seemed poor quality - but we were all very tired after a long day's travelling. There were salads or soups to start, then fish, pork, chicken or duck each night, plus a cheese platter and desserts. Our deal included a third of a bottle of wine each too which was very palatable. The restaurant does have a lovely terrace over the river, but as we were on a tour package we did not use this - it was reserved for full price guests which I fully understood. We were able to have drinks on the terrace though as soon as the dinner service had finished.

Over all I really enjoyed this hotel and found the service pleasant and the setting lovely. It was a considerable improvement on my expectations having seen some earlier reviews. It would make a really good base to explore the Dordogne from and there is plenty to do in Le Bugue itself to fill at least a day maybe two.

Like several other reviewers my wife and I stayed at the Royal Vézère hotel as part of a Treyn holiday entitled 'The Charming Dordogne'. We spent five nights here and had paid for a suite upgrade - room number 100 on the first floor that contained a balcony overlooking the river with a superb view, a shower room, a separate toilet and what I would refer to as a vestibule furnished with a settee, a desk, a chair and a wobbly coffee table. For a suite it was fairly basic.

The staff are very friendly and accommodating and will respond to your attempts at speaking French, in English. Quaint. The bar area is comfortable and drinks can be taken on the terrace that overlooks the river. So far so good.

As this was an inclusive holiday dinner was a fixed, four course affair - no choices. Starters included a vegetable soup, quite tasty and a mushroom soup that was also acceptable. The goat's cheese in puff pastry however was dreadful - both the cheese filling and the pastry were hard and inedible. A mélange of white asparagus (tasteless), beetroot, coleslaw, lettuce and half a boiled egg did nothing for the tastebuds. The main course on the first evening was chicken breast in a cream sauce served with green beans and potatoes. Quite tasty but lukewarm! A salmon dish was spoiled with an awful bright yellow sauce. A coq-au-vin was more bones than meat and was served with boiled potatoes. Nothing else. Someone in an earlier review mentioned the wonderful selection of fresh vegetables available at the local market. Clearly something beyond the mindset of the hotel chef. Apart from potatoes we were not served with one fresh vegetable during our stay.

It was evident during our stay that, without the patronage of Treyn Holidays, the hotel would have been virtually empty. If the management address the dinner menu, provide hot food with a variety of fresh vegetables and starters that have been compiled with some thought to flavour combinations, then I would increase my rating to at least four stars.

Booked direct with the hotel and chose a double with air-con (rm400) and a twin (rm207) both with views over the square and of the river. Very happy with size of both rooms, but a French summer will need air-conditioning (rm400) as night shutters keep out fresh air (rm207) as well as light. Wonderful rooftop pool and sun terrace with shades, for daytime and until 11pm for long summer evenings. Plentiful free outdoor parking, and indoor (a fee) for cars and free for bikes. Very helpful staff and lots of leaflet advice for things to do. Easy drive to Sarlat or chateau near Vezere River, and can recommend Butterfly Canoes for Dordogne River trip.

We live in the area, the hotel tends to be closed more than it is open - but this evening we went to the hotel for drinks before dinner, hoping to sit on the balcony. We entered the bar and asked the barman for drinks on the balcony, as we have done on a few occasions in the past. We were told no, that the bar is for hotel guests only. This review is for the owners of the hotel, to let you know your barman is turning away business.

We were staying at the nearby campsite and booked a table for eight on Sunday 20th Aug as a final meal before our son and family flew home the next day. The weather was unusually hot, upper 30's. On arrival there was a notice saying the restaurant was closed due to the extreme heat. Whilst disappointed reading the notice it was quite understandable. We were going to go but the door was opened and we were beckoned inside. They catered for us solely as we had prebooked and had been a few times before. This service was outstanding, food perfect, and we can't recommend this restaurant and staff enough. We will definitely book a few meals there again next year. The food and service is second to none.

A good base from which to explore the Vezere and Dordogne countryside providing you have a car. Hotel itself has a nice location overlooking the river. Food was very reasonably priced and good quality.
My wife and I stayed for a week and would be happy to stay again if we went back to the area.
Not luxurious but friendly and welcoming. The lack of air conditioning in the otherwise pleasant bedroom was the only real downside.

The hotel is situated on the river bank in the centre of town. The restaurant/bar has nice views over the river with a terrace available during good weather. The staff are very friendly and have a good command of English. Continental breakfast was good and dinner was fine. The bedrooms are roomy with some overlooking the river. There is very little road noise during the night. Car parking is available in front and below the hotel. Parking is restricted on market days (Tues and Sat). Unless you are on an organised tour I would suggest that a car is really the only way to travel around the area as local transport is pretty poor. As suggested Rocamadour is well worth a visit but be prepared for the steep climb.

Wonderful location especially if you request a room overlooking the river. Although there is no airconditioning the full length windows with shutters ensure an airflow from the river and the sound of the frogs can be soporific! Fourth floor has air con in bedrooms, we had a look at a recently vacated room - lots more character in these few 'attic' rooms - room 400 looked lovely. Odd to have the lavatory in a separate room, with no hand basin and the bidet in the bathroom next door. We also had a showerhead that was not wall mounted which is awkward to handle. Shower gel and soap provided but no shampoo so take your own. Small mini bar fridge in room. TV in rooms but all French channels.
Hotel clean and staff generally helpful but dining room can be very hot and humid. We were on half board and should have been on large tables - staff didnt allow us to have a table on the terrace except at breakfast. Breakfast good and plentiful with refills for coffee and teas etc. Dinner very local, and beware those who cant or wont eat foie gras as it features frequently. We had to change two meals and were offerred omlette and chips and ham and chips as an alternative. They will however refill water bottles from the bar free of charge when others charge up to 2.5 Euros a bottle.
There is an Asian restuarant on the riverside had lunch there as a pleasant alternative. Overall, the hotel is worth staying at, it has a lift and a bar and a nice rooftop terrace with a pool but little else to do in the town with no buses or trains and only one local taxi company whose prices seem rather high. .

We stayed at the Royal Vezere in April as a base for a Treyn holiday which was mainly a coach holiday as the locations were scattered about the Doydogne. The hotel had an excellent large comfotable room.
