We stayed at the Hotel Arolla during the UK school half-term holidays in February 2020. On previous holidays we’d opted to stay up the mountain in the Arc 1600 resort. However, this time we decided to explore Bourg St Maurice. The hotel is small and compact but perfectly equipped and adequate for a family holiday. The rooms (we had 2x double and 1x twin) are clean, well equipped, although on the small size. Rooms are warm, and showers hot which is lovely after a long day on the slopes. Probably the biggest bonus to this particular hotel is the excellent and friendly owners. Nothing seems too much for them and they go way beyond expected from a hotel owner. During our stay Thierry, the joint owner with his wife, organised restaurant reservations for us in Bourg, made some excellent suggestions and managed to get us a very late table, after 10pm on the evening we arrived at a local family run Italian restaurant - which we coincidentally returned to later the same week as the food was delicious and freshly prepared. Thierry also arranged for birthday cakes and champagne to help us celebrate a birthday, breakfast and early evening drinks were well organised, and we felt very well looked-after. Midway through the week you also have the opportunity to wash and dry clothes, as part of the service, at no additional cost, which is especially grateful when skiing all week! The daily travel from Bourg to the Arc 1600 resort uses the funicular which is generally included in the cost of the ski passes. Although at times quite busy, the journey from hotel to slopes is no more than 15 minutes even at peak times. We also hired our ski equipment in Bourg which actually saved us around 40% from the resort hire shops. Bourg is a pleasant town with a nice pedestrianised area and a choice of local restaurants, particularly emphasising the local cuisine(s) - lots of raclettes and fondues!! There is a small number of bars, but we did find the town on the quiet side in comparison to the Arc 1600 or Arc 1800 resorts. If you are looking for a lively “Apre Ski” Bourg is probably not the place. For us, the hotel fulfilled all our needs, the service was excellent and truly representative of the 5 stars. Bourg is pleasant but a little, on the quiet side for us. Thank you for a lovely vacation Hotel Arolla.

We stayed here for 1 night before heading up the mountain to our resort - two adults, two children. We stayed in a family room which was a double bed and bunk beds. It was great! The owners responded quickly to all emails/queries and booked us into a fantastic family run pizza restaurant 1 minute walk away for dinner - after a long delayed drive from Lyon it was much needed! The hotel is very central, and had parking for our car. Reasonable price, and also open to just 1 night stay which lots of places aren’t at this time of year. We would return!

BsM is an interesting alternative to staying up at Les Arcs. Daily trips up and down the funicular are a bit of a drag, but the restaurants, bars and shops of the town are a bonus. We stayed Saturday to Saturday at the Arolla, room 9. The (new) owners greeted us and ensured that all was well with our room. No.9 has a double bed (a bit hard) and two bunks. For us two, there was plenty of space; for 4, it would be cosy (or tight). Everything was very clean and there was plenty of cupboard space. The room was warm. Shower only in the bathroom (i.e. no bath) but hot water and good pressure all the time. Modest shampoo/gel products. Thin towels, not luxury style. No dressing gowns or slippers - we didn’t expect them at this price. Breakfast is cold only - croissants, bread, cereal, yoghurt - but ample. The host/owner speaks good English and is always around to offer help and guidance on local matters. Very easy access to town, bars, restaurants, station, funicular, ski rental (next to the funicular, Polairstar is great) and..... the main hospital (accidents do happen). Great value for money at the Arolla, don’t miss the discounted ski passes (we did!).

We stayed here as we were supporting a group cycling the Route des Grandes Alpes. The hotel was well positioned and we had a warm welcome from the owner. The rooms were clean and tidy but I would say that our 'double' bed was too small and we ended up sleeping head to toe to fit in! The breakfast was good and the owner topped up our flasks with hot water for our journey. Not the most luxurious hotel but great value for money and certainly try 'Le Chalet' as a restaurant to eat in of an evening - it was good value and delicious and only a 5 minute walk away. The centre of town was very close to the hotel and we enjoyed a short stroll there whilst we waited for the hotel to open.

We stayed one night on a cycling tour. The rooms were small but alpine decor. We had a good breakfast. It is conveniently situated to cafes and town. The star of the show is the owner who went above and beyond to help us and accommodate us.
