We (a couple plus dog) stayed here for 5 days in August and really enjoyed it. One can always feel when a hotel is family owned, because you get personal service and tips and it's much nicer than staying in a place where you're just another number. We enjoyed our long walks with the dog next to the nearby river and through the raspberry fields. The breakfast was excellent, with fresh eggs made to our liking, homemade jam, fresh buns and other local goodies. One could also have the breakfast delivered to the room or in a basket to go, which is a very cool idea. It's the perfect place to clear your head and relax. One star less for that same reason. There is nothing in the area except for 2 restaurants which close pretty early. So if you want to go out in the evening you have to drive to a different city. There is a nice restaurant a walking distance from the hotel, but after spending there 3 evenings in a row we really wanted a different kind of entertainment. Other than that, it was a really great stay, thank you Hirschenstube :)

We have been here ten times, never has it disappointed and now they have renovated the guest rooms it’s even better. We love it for the incredible welcome you get and the amazing value for money and family friendly atmosphere. Breakfast is great and has everything you would want from a great continental platter of good local and healthy food. We have always been as it’s only 20 Minutes drive from Europaparc and it’s nice for a 2 day intense theme park experience without having to sleep there too! Great recommendations for local restaurants and just overall lovely feel.

Thank you Andrea for all, we look forward to coming again soon!

25 of us from the Anglo German Club Freiburg enjoyed another excellent Spargelessen (asparagus dinner) at the Hirschenstube. The mixed salad starter was excellent, the asparagus main course with all its accompaniments was excellent and the strawberry and ice cream dessert was very good. As usual, the service was attentive and welcoming. I expect we will be back there again next year.

We stayed here during an organ festival in Waldkirch since we couldn't get a room there. Next time I wouldn't even bother trying for a room in Waldkirch. I don't think you could do better for a warm German country welcome.

Our room was spacious, quiet and clean with a beautiful balcony overlooking a meadow and Blackforest foothills. Yes, the internet was spotty and on one very warm night without AC it was less comfortable for sleeping, but none of the local hotels have AC in the country and with Windows open it was fine.

Breakfast was nothing short of amazing with lots of fresh fruit, cheese, cold cuts, cereals, breads and soft-boiled eggs. And the restaurant was first class.

Definitely warrants a return visit. It's also easy to get to with the train from Freiburg and a short ride from Bucholz to Waldkirch and the train pass is included with the stay

thirteen of us including I and my husband stay here for two weeks for traveling around Alsace villages. We pick this village house instead of a city hostel due to the budget constraint and also want to experience some cottage life in western Germany.

Though the Hirschenstube is a bit far from the hub of Freiburg (approx. 15 to 20 mins drive to the direction of Walkirch), we all satisfied with its location coz you will never expect your room could have such a spacious balcony in front of a big meadow, you can almost stay there for a whole day without doing anything but only enjoying the moment of serenity there.

Only some disappointments may be the room cleansing and wifi service. They seem like cleansing the room in an arbitrary way (eg. sometimes they clean the room without throwing the rubbish, and sometimes they throw rubbish but forget to change the toilet floor towel and so on). And the free wifi doesn't work properly all the time.

All in all, this is a good place for staying if you wish to enjoy the authentic cottage life within a budgeted price.

Location is in a quiet village with just one other pub (Straussi). Room in Gastehaus Gehri, adjacent hotel itself, was well appointed and included a kitchen area, decent sized bathroom and a good balcony overlooking the Black Forest hills. Staff all spoke good English, and were friendly and helpful. We ate in on one night and had a top grade meal, which for 5 came to about 180 Euro including drinks Breakfast for 6 Euro was indeed vitamin rich- loads of different fresh fruits, as well as fresh breads, rolls, jam, meats, cheese.
Great experience

25 of us met at the Hirschenstube for the annual Anglo German Club Spargelessen and we enjoyed an excellent dinner there. The asparagus came from Opfingen and was cooked perfectly. We started with a very good mixed salad, followed by the asparagus with Kratzete, small young potatoes, mixed hams, butter sauce and hollandaise sauce with strawberries and ice cream with a vanilla sauce for dessert.

Comfortable well appointed rooms, low rates, friendly and helpful staff. What more could you want? Well, a brilliant "vitamin" breakfast, and near-gourmet evening meals, all on offer. Add to this a great location in a peaceful village in the Black Forest and you have it all

Hotel (Gaesthaus Gehri) was comfortable and well appointed with spacious rooms, spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds, and good shutters gave plenty of opportunity for sellp. Own balconies, and as we had an apartment, a kitchen and dining area. Breakfast was good, loads of fresh fruit, meat, cheese, fresh bread and rolls in the beautiful interior of the main hotel. Very quiet location and kids play area right outside very good.
Evening meal was excellent quality and well presented. Frau Petkovic was friendly and welcoming, as were all the staff

All rooms (that we saw) feature a large balkony, interior is a bit older but clean and in well order. The breakfast is OK but the restaurant is a perfec dinner choice.
