I've stayed at other hotels in the area for various reasons and lengths of time during the past 20 years and I will never stay anywhere else.
1. Reservation made months in advance for an eight night stay. My Hilton Honors Gold preferences always state upper floor away from elevators. Also called hotel to remind I wanted an upper floor away from noise. Placed me on FIRST floor right off lobby, by elevator. Had to move to a different room type than I reserved.
2. Stove top- on LOWEST setting burned my food everyday. I cook at least twice a day in the room and it was a pain in the neck dealing with this.
3. Put DO NOT DISTURB sign on door everyday for eight days. Housekeeper entered room at least four days and tidied up room and moved stuff around.
4. Most Homewood suites are so outdated. The room looked tired and such as step down from our hotel in Las Vegas. They look 25+ years old in terms of styling. Need to do some updates!
5. Front desk staff neglected to post to my room notes late checkout by only 1 hour even though i requested it the night before (it was approved by Vanessa). Housekeeping then showed up early.
6. Could use some Gluten Free options for breakfast and evening social. My daughter can never eat anything! From that perspective we don't get the same value as other guests.
7. Front desk staff was pretty good about following up on my requests for restocking room items.
8. Did not use hot tub or pool, but saw others using it without complaints.
9. Good location for using ski buses to resorts.
10. Not too many restaurants we could eat at nearby.
11. Trader Joe's not too far, but we don't go there as they don't have a lot of allergy free foods.
12. Whole Foods within 5 miles.
Overall, I would probably stay again just because it was close to the ski resorts, but Homewood Suites are kind of dumpy if you care about that.
The rooms were always maintained/beds/towels, etc, by the time we returned from each day out (minus one clogged toilet issue in Rm 329 on day 1, which was addressed by the staff). There are other reviews with the same issue.
We like the mgrs reception on weekdays; intended for bus. travelers, but we leverage it for vaca. where possible.
B'fasts are typically decent, though often times the staff could use a 2nd set of hands to keep up w/items that were out, and clean-up.
Two of the lids for the food did not stay up on their own, making it harder to serve up items (especially for younger guests!).
Food was luke warm at best; guessing there are not heaters below the food serving areas.
Bad:
We arrived at 12p and asked if we could check-in early (2 rms/ 4 night stay). Rooms were not ready; okay.
The front desk attendant told us to come back in 1 hr (no offer to hold luggage, etc). We returned to the hotel at 2:45p (nearly 3 hrs later). Rooms were still not ready, after an "extensive" check and the two attendants conversing in Spanish with one another, in front of me, the customer, never acknowledging that I was present and clearly not knowing I knew what they were saying. At 3:15p, the rooms were ready for check-in; okay. The first room (329) was fine. There was apparently no adjacent room for the second room type requested (okay). 329 to 321 was the room split; okay, except that the second room REEKED of cigarette smoke which both my wife and I have a strong aversion to. We asked for a new room.
The 2nd room (after a return to the front desk) was room 308, located diagonally across the U shaped hotel from 329. This was considerably far from the rest of our group; so much so, that we opted to move our youngest to our room to sleep on the couch; not the intended plan for our get away vacation!
The smoke issue appeared in our room on day 2. We both complained again. By the third complaint, a staff member came up and we showed how it is clearly a design flaw in the building. The exhaust fan ducting between floors is tied together, and there's not a open/close damper on the exhaust fans, as the smoke was clearly coming through the exhaust; making the whole room just nasty!
240,000 hard earned points were used for this vacation, of which none were refunded, though the hotel manager stated that at least "some" would be! Poor follow through, all around. Satisfaction NOT guaranteed Hilton!
I did choose this hotel because of the " great reviews " that were given. I will be extra cautious next time .
The neighborhood was fine, but the overflowing exterior garbages didn't give a good first impression. The lobby area was ok, but the hallway to the elevators was covered in bare plywood looking sloppy and unsafe. The halls were dark and had a smell of old carpet.
The room itself (separate one bedroom and a small living area) could use some updating, but had a bit of a smell that I couldn't put my finger on. It did have a sticker on the door that said lysol sanitized. We had brought our own Lysol wipes and as soon as we got in the room we wiped down everything anyway (and would have done the same even if it was a luxury property). The tv in the bedroom was old and had a screen pulling off at the corners that didn't work, but that didn't matter to us.
Basically the rooms were okay, but the common areas were the problem. Dirty elevators, dark, dingy hallways, overflowing garbage cans. On the side of the property I found a used needle in the parking lot.
If they need to have such a skeletal staff right now due to Covid, that's understandable but maybe it would be better to shut down temporarily rather than ruin a good brand's reputation.
Below are some details of the drama:
We talked to the front desk about the blood on the sheet. The front desk surprisingly claimed that it was very usual for their hotel.
The front desk did provide two options: replacing sheet or switched/upgraded a hotel room. My friend and I chose upgrading a hotel room initially. After my friend and I check out the hotel room which they switch us to, the room was still the same room type. Then we thought it might not be a good idea to do an "upgrade", since everybody wanted to sleep and we had to wake up early at 5 am and drive to the ski resort. Also we had many ski and snowboarding gear and we didn't want to move them at 11:00 pm at night from second floor to third floor.
Then drama continued. We asked front desk whether they could switch the bed sheet. The front desk said that the room service was not available at that time because of the shift change at 11 pm. However, the front desk lady can help us change the sheet. She found the bed sheet and ready to go to our room with me. Then I followed her closely, might not be social distance. It was my fault. All a sudden, she stop and I couldn't stop my foot and unintentionally bump into her. Then she felt offend and asked me to go back to hotel room. She herself returned to the back. Her colleague said she needed to check whether it is the right size sheet to switch on.
After I got back to the hotel room, the front desk called us and asked us to leave because the front desk lady felt offended because of my unintentional bump into her. She didn’t feel safe that I stayed at the hotel and asked us to leave on new year’s eve. Since we had trip plan next morning, we didn’t want to spend more time to argue with the hotel. We chose to leave and find other hotels.
I am a diamond member and I feel very disappointed about what I experienced. We choose that hotel because we stayed at that hotel the year before for our Christmas ski trip. Everything was perfect. However we got kicked out of hotel on New Year Eve.
