Lovely room with lots of authentic art work covering the walls. The view from the patio is beyond compare. Such a peaceful setting. They show classic western movies at night, a real treat! Although no wifi in the room itself, the large, comfortable lobby makes up for it. With COVID restrictions still in place the restaurant was not open. They have a great gift shop too.

Arrived around 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 2. Told we would have to wait 3 hours to check-in, even though rooms were likely available. Hotel is nice but average. Overpriced considering the lack of services. Trading post was open but the restaurant, unlike the rest of the State, was not open. Staff referred us to Goulding's for dinner; where the takeout was horrific. Beautiful view from our balcony. However, Tribal lands, on which The View resides, were not open for touring; which was the purpose of our visit to the Monuments. The View's website is not transparent about actual conditions in the area, or at the hotel. Disappointed!

We arrived to the area 3 hrs before check in time. So I called the hotel and they said that our room was ready. (I recommend calling about early check in, as your room may not be ready) We checked in at 1:30p. At check in we were given to $20 gift certificates (Navajo made products) Everyone was very friendly to us during our stay. I hated that the restaurant wasn't open, but you can drive 10 minutes down the road to Gouldings. They do have grab bags at breakfast (at no charge) in the trading post. Also, they show films that were made in MV outside on the patio at night. We watched Fort Apache and the Searchers. The view from the balcony was excellent! We stayed on the 2nd floor. I recommend this property without any hesitation but fyi the scenic drive through the Park is closed at this time.

If you have to relive the John Ford view of Monument Valley (as in his famous western movies), the View Hotel is at present your only option. The premium paid for a room gets you a clean, simply furnished room, with a private balcony that almost duplicates the view of Monument Valley that we all saw in the movies. Your experience will be marred as the hotel restaurant and deli were closed during Covid19 and have not re-opened as of May 27, 2021. Your only dining option is to drive 6 miles to another hotel with restaurant or drive 30 minutes to the next town. The View Hotel provides a grab and go breakfast for hotel guests. Pre-Covid, the road that allows access to the View Hotel had a couple of guard shacks, that collected a fee for anyone entering the Monument Valley Park. The park consists of the Hotel, camping, cabins and a dirt road that runs along the valley floor. You could drive the road yourself or hire a touring company. Also, the common areas of the Hotel were available for dining and picture taking. As of May 27, 2021, the Park remains closed except for the View Hotel and cabins. No access to the dirt road for hotel guests or touring companies. Guards will only allow registered hotel guests access to the View Hotel. So, if you must relive the moment of seeing what John Ford saw when filming his westerns, your only choice for your Kodak moment is to book a room at the View Hotel. The Hotel is pleasant enough with generous leather seating scattered around the large lobby. A gift shop features Navaho art. You'll need to decide if the premium for the room and dining inconvenience is worth the view.

One of the highlights of our 12 day trip! All the rooms have a gorgeous view of the East and West Mittens, Merrick Butte and the stars at night. The restaurant is closed, so we went nearby to Goulding's for dinner. The Navajo Taco and burger on frybread with whole grilled green chili were both good. The sack breakfast is minimal, but the view is the reason to be there. We arrived around 4pm after driving from Moab through the Valley of the Gods and seeing the view of Goosenecks State Park. We went to dinner and came back to our room to enjoy the changing light as we waited for sunset, and enjoyed seeing the sun rise in the morning.
