From the friendly check in to the easy check out (just leave your keysin the room and receive your receipt via email) every little aspect of our stay was fantastic. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean. Our meals at the Tavern restaurant onsite were delicious. Having access to the pools and the hot tub made for a fun and relaxing visit with my kids, it was the first time in a year that we were all together. Burlington is a short drive away, we thoroughly enjoyed that city! So much to see. We highly recommend the Essex, we will be back.

The Essex is always a wonderful and peaceful vacation destination. This is something for everyone. The rooms are spacious and the hospitality is always top notch. The spa brings nothing but relaxation and peace of mind. They have done well with the current limitations to make this still one of the best experiences one can have on a vacation getaway.

As others have said, this is not a luxury resort. I don’t understand how they justify a daily $26 resort fee. It’s lovely from the outside (props to the landscapers), but inside it’s timeworn and tired-looking. The place needs new carpeting and fresh paint. Our room had one complimentary bathrobe in the closet — guess we were expected to share. There was supposedly housekeeping service, but no one came during our two-night stay. More important to note: This is a pet-friendly hotel, and if that is not your thing, be advised. There were dogs of all shapes and sizes with their humans everywhere… in the halls, in the lobby, and even in the restaurant. (They were on leashes and well-behaved, unlike the pair of unleashed kids who were running in the halls every time we saw them.) It was a rainy weekend, and the distinct smell of wet dog hung over the first room we were given. When we rang up the desk, we were offered another room and someone brought up a key after about a 10-minute wait in the hallway with our luggage. We had wonderful food at the Junction restaurant, but here too the service was spotty for a high-end restaurant. A plate of oysters on the half shell with mignonette sauce arrived with no utensils. The wine that was presented was a different vintage from the one listed on the menu—we got a shrug when we pointed that out. The tomahawk steak listed was not available — “we just haven’t been able to get it”” - which made us wonder why it was on the menu. The food itself was first-class and it deserved to be served with more polish and in a better setting.

Room rates are high for a hotel of this quality Lots of add on charges… Check in is at the sandwich, snack bar in the lobby A resort? Pebble Beach is a resort… this is 2 swimming pools and a hot tub One restaurant open to feed a hotel of this size No bell staff… peeling paint and dated bathrooms The entire “feel “ of this place is we known we are run down , but on a positive note we are charging you a ridiculous fee and we aren’t going to fix it up. Just don’t go here … go to a Hyatt or a Hilton… it will be cheaper and candidly a lot nicer

Donk, We appreciate you stopping by and taking the time to leave a review. It is disheartening that your experience wasn’t five stars. Our staff will look into the broken suite and work harder to make sure the breakfast orders are hot and made quicker! Your feedback is truly appreciated!
