Detailed Reviews
This cute little “chalet” was just 10 minutes away from the Okemo ski area. Stepping into the foyer transports you back in time... from the original wall paper that still hangs from its days as the Governor’s mansion to the intricate ceiling work. I felt like I was on a miniature mansion tour, except I got to stay here.
Our Castle King room had plenty of space, and the same old world charm carries through in the furniture, the bathroom and adjoining dressing room. I liked that the management chose to keep the cast iron tub... I would gladly give up some water pressure for the authenticity. Even though the fixtures are historic, everything was in working order and sparkling clean. The towels were soft and the bathroom was stocked with Aveda products.
We purchased the Anniversary Package, which was a great deal that included a 3 course dinner for 2 in the excellent restaurant and as well as 50 minute massages for 2 in its spa. This was the first time in months I’ve felt comfortable getting a massage, since case numbers in VT is much lower than the rest of the country and it’s clear that management takes COVID precautions seriously.
We ate at the restaurant on Super Bowl Sunday so we were one of only 2 tables that night, which was great for us because we had an entire dining room to ourselves. I didn’t see too many people there on other nights either but I’m not sure why because the setting is classically romantic and the food was delicious. I really liked that everything on the menu, including the $40+ lamb chop or lobster/steak entrees were fair game as options for the the anniversary package dinner.
The only constructive criticism I have is that the heat was unbearably hot, especially on the top floor and it seemed to get extra hot over night. It took us a while to figure out which windows to open to get a cross breeze so we could get the room to a comfortable temperature. That, and the elevator is not operational which means you have to carry all your luggage up 2 flights of stairs. Old world problems, I suppose. I would love to return post COVID so I can really enjoy all the amenities that were understandably temporarily unavailable.

Let's start with the cons first so we can end on a positive note. When you check in, you'll realize it's a free castle-like place, but fairly small. And they tell you right away they will not be cleaning your room. If, by chance, you need extra towels or soap or whatever, let them know, but there will be no cleaning service while you're staying there. Then they let you know the breakfast is $10 a person, but what they don't let you know is when you go down to get breakfast, they barely have anything. And they just tell you they happen to have a muffin and one egg, would you like that. It's very impersonal and quick. We had dinner at the beautiful restaurant one night, and it is very cozy and nice inside, but they want you in and out of there pretty quickly. We got there at 8:00pm and by 9:15 they turned the lights off and had the vacuum cleaner going after a $400 dinner, and reminded you that you can take the rest of your wine up to your room. The food at the restaurant for dinner was good (Not the best I ever had, but still quite good) Again, atmosphere very nice. Good wine selection. Waitress was very nice, but I think again if you're going to spend $400 for a dinner and they're pushing you to get out by 9:15 after an hour and 15 minutes, that's just wrong. Hotel: The beds were small and very uncomfortable. They do not have any kind of fans or anything to drain out the highway noise that you hear if you have the windows open to let some fresh air in. There's no complimentary water. The rooms are very basic, small, and there is a small refrigerator. Spa: On the good side of things, the spa and the jacuzzi and gym were all wonderful: Any kind of gym equipment you want. The jacuzzi was very nice and quite deep (Probably the deepest jacuzzi I've been in). Spa had good service and was extensive and nice. The massage was great and at a reasonable price. One of the issues is they are still on COVID alert, so with the massage, you have to wear a mask if you're facing up (I just decided to do my whole massage face down then). To me, when you're staying at a nice place like that and they won't give you any service at all in your room, that's a big turn-off. Oh and to rub salt in the wound,, they did have a tip envelope for the cleaning person. Really?

The 100+ year old hotel was in pretty good shape but not impressive. The on site dinning was available but a bit pricey. The piano playing during the dinner hours was a nice touch. The room we had was a bit tight and the water pressure in the shower was non-existent. Don't expect to be able to shower. They would not perform a refresh of the room each day as they said covid does not allow them to enter your room during your stay. We stayed at other locations in the area and they did refresh each day. My guess is they have staffing issues like so many businesses and used covid as an excuse. I would not recommend and will not be returning.

The good news is that we would return. The bad news is that this resort should have gotten a 4-star+ review and it gets a 3-star review. The issues generally relate to information and maintenance failures. The actual condos are quite nice as is the salt water pool. However, many of the pool railings are unstable and unsafe. One of the cement steps has a large crack. The jacuzzi was not working properly. Once it was half empty. Another time the jets were not working properly. There was little information provided for the condo. Did we have to bring our own everything or were some things provided? It turns out there was dishwasher detergent but no aluminum foil or plastic wrap. No salt and pepper either. No soup spoons were in the unit. All of the stove top components were in the dishwasher when we arrived. We had to put the stove top back together. The Adirondack chairs on the porch were ancient and poorly maintained. One arm was loose. The front steps are badly in need of staining. There was no information provided on how to use the a/c units. It seemed easy but was not because the remotes needed to be opened to first have a switch changed to allow the surface controls to function. None of these issues are a catastrophe but none of them should have existed for a resort in the price range. The maintenance man was a very nice guy and quite helpful. One of the front desk people was poorly trained and uninformed. If the failings are corrected I would recommend this resort. There is clearly a lot of maintenance related work that needs to be done.

February 9, 2020 - planned surprise wedding proposal on behalf of my nephew at the Castle Hill resort restaurant. Couldn't have been happier with Corie as our waitperson. She made suggestions on where to be seated and served the champagne with strawberries at just the right moment. Perfect evening. Also, we were pleasantly surprised by the updated shower in Room 6. This is the fifth time we have stayed on the property and have never had a bad experience. Dora & Mike

I want to take this opportunity to let you know what a wonderful experience my girlfriend and I had celebrating her birthday at your resort. The resort staff was friendly and professional. When I made our online reservation, I was prompted to indicate if there was anything the resort should know about our stay. I replied that it was my girlfriend's birthday and didn't anticipate that it would make any difference. When we arrived at our room, we were delighted to see that there was a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us. We had dinner at the resort and it was excellent. We had an amazing time, enjoying after-dinner drinks in the library with a roaring fire and live piano music.
Finally, my girlfriend mistakenly left the anniversary ring I gave her in December in our room . While we were on the road returning home I received a message that housekeeping had found the ring and turned it in. I had a friend pick the ring up and it's now in my possession. We are extremely grateful that housekeeping turned in the ring. Thanks again for helping make this a memorable birthday celebration. I hope to be seeing you again in the near future

+1
We had dinner here in a bus tour. Excellent service and super friendly staff! Being that we were a large group, we were given two choices to choose from….Salmon or sirloin. I had the salmon. Nice size piece of fish. Came with wild rice and mixed vegetables. It was good. The sirloin came with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Both entrees came with salad and dessert. I had the Napoleon and it was delicious. Very beautiful setting inside and out. Make sure you go around back and visit the gardens.

The “castle” is a historic and well maintained mansion/hotel. I was impressed with how they have maintained many of the original features. Such as the intercoms in the hallways and the wallpaper. The only down side was the size of the room we had, Room 3. Compared to the other rooms we viewed, such as 2 and 4 it was very small. As was the bathroom. Although I do recommend a stay here, I would ask about the room size
Also, the staff that we interacted with were all very friendly and accommodating.
The pool area is very nice, especially the hot tub.

Pulled in, place was stately and so pretty on the hill. We walked in and were not greeted, weren't shown around or given a map or told where anything was or what was and was not available. No bar. Their web site indicates "no service of food or liquor in the library". Yet, Lisa told us she could serve us in the library, but didn't seem to want to accommodate it. Every single time we encountered Lisa, I felt as though she was put off by us being there. What? We are paying to be here! This place is far from warm in all that, that implies. I felt as though we were unwelcome there. Everything was "no". No breakfast, no bar, no spa (too cold), no massages (they were booked, but only 1 other person staying there). Stayed 3 nights, no housekeeping. WE WERE ON OUR OWN!! I felt like I was invading someone's home! I have never stayed in a place like this. It was old. Historic and just old. Had a dvd player in the room. No flat screen, a tv from the '90's was what you are paying for when you book here. So outdated. When I was leaving with my luggage, I said to the woman sitting in the dark staring at her computer screen without music playing. lights were off (so bizarre!!), "Thank you.." her response, "You're welcome". Not "Thank you so much for staying with us". I do NOT suggest staying here. Unless you think you can handle the Adams Family-like atmosphere.

Hi Pickytraveler, the pool and hot tub are open. The number of people allowed at the pool is limited, by the State, to six at any one time. To accommodate this restriction guest make reservations for pool use. We look forward to seeing you in August. Kind Regards, Andy
Dear Teacher, there is room service available when staying in one of the Castle guest rooms. The Pointe hotel or the Castle Condominiums do not offer room service.
Kind Regards, Andy
