Stay here for a relaxing night when driving I-81. There aren't many mom and pop places like this anymore, so support them! Yes, things are old fashioned, but everything is clean and comfortable. I love parking outside my room door, no steps or elevators. There is a wonderful pool and hot tub with powerful jets that wouldn't be out of place at a hotel costing hundreds of dollars more. There are two great lounge charges outside your room under a covered porch great for relaxing and watching traffic go by with a nice mountain backdrop. It appears there is no more continental breakfast but they offer free coffee at the gas station down the hill. Tip: call to make your reservation and they may give you a cash price at a discount.

On arrival the reception guy didn’t seem quite with it. Basically told us you’re in room 3 and that was it, muttered something about coffee. Room was large but no coffee maker, and the Wi-Fi is locked. Returned to reception to ask for a code and it was deserted other than a dog who kept walking in and out! After waiting a while I walked outside only to find him asleep in a bench, surrounded by empty bottles! I spoke loudly to get his attention and by now he didn’t seem to be in the same planet as me! He was muttering something about booking another night, I said no I want the Wi-Fi code, he took a pen and appeared to want to write the code on my phone. Got it eventually but the whole process was useless as the Wi-Fi didn’t work! The bathroom had fresh towels but a dirty bath and a number of long black hairs in the bath and sink. Fridge was dirty. The free breakfast does not exist! The views of (aptly named) Purgatory Mountain are viewed over the busy and noisy highways.

Seconds from the highway (I-81), this is exactly what I'm looking for when on an active trip in the mountains. The rooms were no-frills but clean. A comfortable bed after a long day of hiking. Tips: the free wi-fi is that, but it's not strong enough to reach the rooms (and we were 3 away from the office). Don't bother with the dinner for two package. It's billed as a 3-course meal, but it's actually just a $40 credit toward a meal at the cafe, so there's no savings. This place is literally just minutes away from the Apple Orchard Falls trailhead, which is perhaps the most scenic hike (for streams and waterfalls) in the southeast. The fit and adventuresome can add miles on the AT, which is just as close. Foot of the Mountains Cafe has good food, but it's busy due to the lack of eateries nearby.

We were on the highway and couldn’t find a place to stay under $200. I opened the AAA book and found this Inn. Anne was very helpful and friendly, booked our room and it was just perfect. No frills, clean, and on a mountain. The most beautiful sunrise in the mountains. If you like the mountains you will like this. The chef was on vacation but next time we go we will try the restaurant that is on the property.

From making our reservations to our stay we couldn't have been happier! Host and staff were great and very helpful. Room was comfortable and clean! We travel with our Australian Shepard and they have some dog friendly rooms. Nice breakfast and a day when my wife was leaving early for a hike on the Appalachian Trail the gas station nearby gave her a complimentary coffee since we were staying at the Inn. Restaurant on site is fantastic, some of the best wings we have had and their pork chops were delicious. We will definitely return for a future stay! While Route 81 is nearby we didn't hear the traffic at night and beds were comfortable so sleeping wasn't an issue. Close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiking trails.

This is an older motel, but everything was very clean. The bedding was comfortable and the room includes a large mini fridge. The pool was immaculate, with plenty of seating. It was nice to sit outside of our room and watch the sun set over the mountain, it's a lovely view. We stayed on a day that the restaurant was closed but the menu looked delicious. Our only issue was with breakfast. It was not available at 7 as advertised. Someone showed up at 7:15, and the coffee was good. The rest of the offerings include a large quantity of packaged pastries. Cereal was available but there was no milk. I try to support local businesses and would stay here again. Breakfast (or lack of) was not a deal breaker but was an issue.

Stopped off here for one night while traveling south. Room with 2 double beds was clean and met our needs. Had a nice dinner at the restaurant below the motel and enjoyed the views of the mountains amidst the thunderstorms. Beds were fine and we slept as well as expected. All was going well and looking at a 5-star rating until we woke up, hoping to enjoy the continental breakfast starting at 7am. When no one showed up to open the breakfast room, we went by the front desk only to find that no one was there either. We tried calling the motel's number, but no one answered. We waited a bit more but needed to get back on the road so finally gave up. We tried calling one more time and got through this time but they couldn't explain why the breakfast was not being served. As a consolation we were told we could get a coffee and pastry at the Shell station down the hill and charge it to the Inn but that was not our idea of breakfast so we passed and got back on the road.

I have always wanted to stay at here as we have passed it on our way to Charlotte over 50 times! Well, I can take it off my bucket list as we got to stay there last night . and it was wonderful. We called when we were 45 minutes out and they were so kind to wait for us to get there! Room was great - but the best treat was in the morning waking up to the view! Great place - will try to fit it into our travel plans again when we can stay longer!

After passing by this motel for years on the interstate, our family decided to stay a couple of nights while we were in the area. It reminded me of my childhood and some of the motels we stayed in while traveling. The rooms have been renovated and were clean. The pool and hot tub were very nice, and view of the mountains was beautiful. It was nothing fancy but served its purpose just fine.
