I stayed here last year for VMI's homecoming weekend. We had plenty of room for a little less than a dozen people. Accommodations are homey, beds are ample, architecture is even interesting. The house has porch seating which is fantastic for those who smoke or enjoy relaxing outside.

The house is spacious and the kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cookware. My problem with this property s the cleanliness. Cob webs we plentiful. Windows have not been cleaned inside or out. There was dirt on the ledges of the windows in the basement room. The carpets are in need of a professional cleaning. The window in the...

We were looking for a home that could accommodate 9 people, and we stumbled upon the James River House. We were not disappointed. It is a beautiful home, in the very quaint little town of Buchanan. Right on the main street in Buchanan, VA. Five of us were traveling from Montana to SC via the Blue Ridge Parkway. Friends from VA rode out and met us at the James River House. We had plenty of space on the first and second floors. Each couple had their own room and bathroom. We did not need the bunk...

The folks at the James River House appreciate the history of Buchanan, the western terminus of the old James River and Kanawha Canal. They can point one to the remains of the canal basin and the locks on the river. As you can tell from their web site, they also arrange kayak and canoe trips on the river. The rooms...
