When we were finally able to kick the swollen door open the room smelled immediately of mold. The tiles in the shower had mold between them, but other than that, there was no visible mold. The door to the room was almost impossible to shut from the outside because you have to pull it so sharply towards yourself.

The room was incredibly outdated with worn carpet and a toilet that was running constantly. When I brought the condition of the room to the attention of the desk clerk he showed me another room, but it was in just as bad a condition.

The bedspreads were for a king bed and so I kept tripping on them every time I passed the bed. The flat sheet they were using in place of a fitted sheet was small and barely covered the mattress. All night long it moved around and in the end I was mostly sleeping on the mattress.

Stay in Lexington, the choice is better and the rooms nicer.

This is an OK place to stay while traveling. I used it twice this trip. Once on the way down and once on the way back for a motorcycle trip I had another real destination further away. It is inexpensive and it is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I have used on-line bookings or have just stopped in. There are several places to eat and sleeping was fine. Just don't expect too much. Got a good shower and in room coffee for the AM. You can park in front of the room so loading and unloading is quick. This is an Old style motel from another era.

As I've said more than once; independent lodgings have, for at least the last couple decades, the options of joining a chain, becoming a home-like charming place, or being just plain cheap. I've stayed at places that have made each of these choices, and this one has taken option three.

Stayed here one night in order to get an early start hiking on a day I expected more heat and humidity than I could handle. I originally thought to camping out on this night, but then realized I would be unlikely to sleep well in a tent if the air never really got comfortable. So I looked for the least expensive place to stay that was as close to the trail head as possible -- and this place fit both requirements.

The place is clearly old, and has not had any major renovations in years. The locks on the doors, for example, still use keys and are the type that do not lock unless you press the button on the knob. That was standard when I first stayed at motels -- over fifty years ago! -- but it's long past standard today.

The office has literally nothing except a counter for check-in and a box of tourist literature -- not even a bathroom! The clerk has trouble finding a key for my room, which had to leave me unimpressed. The room itself had full bath, phone, AC, radio-alarm, microwave, mini-fridge (badly in need of a defrosting), coffee-maker, and TV with 37 channels. The curtains did not fully close, and the rotator for one of the windows was completely broken -- I had to close the window by pulling on it. The bed was comfortable, the room was well-stocked & clean, and the place was quiet enough for me to get a good night's sleep. Free amenities included parking and wi-fi -- the latter did not seem to work with my smart phone.

The motel is isolated from the town, so you'll need a car just to get something to eat. The view of the mountains was, as stated by the motel's URL, quite nice.

If you're in the area and just need a roof over your head for a night, this will probably suffice. But the place is so much in need of renovation that, despite its low price, I could not give it even a mediocre rating.

I had stayed at the Buena Vista previously and had a pleasant enough stay. I was unaware that there had been a change in ownership. I made reservations, but when my wife and I arrived I was told that they had no reservation under my name. Since they were full, I tried other motels in the region and found out that the local university was having parents' weekend. Most motels were completely booked and were charging a lot more for their rooms. The Buena Vista Motel had quoted me a price of $49 dollars a night. When they realized that they could charge some of the parents a lot more, they conveniently lost my reservation. I would advise people to steer clear of the Buena Vista; dishonest owners rarely provide good service.

I have always utilized TripAdvisor reviews when hunting for hotel options. They are almost always accurate. In light of the reviews I have read about the little Buena Vista Motel, I have to respond!
People! Buena Vista is a sleepy little university town right off the main road of the Shenandoah Blue Ridge Parkway. The motel never intended to be a luxury, stay for four days type of hotel. It is a decent little place for about $60 per night, with decently comfy beds and some of the best showers anywhere. We stay at the Buena Vista Motel when delivery out daughter to Southern VA University or when we arrive to being her back home. We have stayed at the Wingate in Lexington for twice the price, but it did not offer twice the convenience for location or even amenities.
Take the motel for what it is. A stopping place to crash, take a good shower and move on. Why anyone would expect more for $60 is beyond me.

We travel lots for business and were nervous about the quality of a motel offered for $35 per night in the coupon book. We were pleased to find clean rooms with new beds, fluffy towels, great internet speed and even digital cable with on demand in our room. We stayed 3 nights and while not fancy at all, we lacked for nothing. The town is quiet and very small town. We were happy to have a fridge and microwave in the room too. In our travels we have stayed at those awful, smelly, buggy rooms- this is definitely the other side of the coin. Like someone else said, don't expect a marble lobby and such, this is a simple, small motel which has been lovingly cared for and renovated over the years.

I was on a motorcycle trip from Florida riding the Blue Ridge Pkwy. It was getting late in the afternoon, the GPS showed two motels in Buena vista, Virginia, the Budget in was a joke, it should be condemned, I didn't stay there. I rode just down the street to the second motel in town, the Buena Vista motel. I couldn't believe I stopped in this town. I was very tired so I stayed. The rate was too high at $66 dollars, for this place was a joke. The place looked terrible, the room was old and out dated. I don`t smoke but I asked the lady at the front desk if I could save money by staying in a smoking room, she said yes, only I almost gaged when I went in the room, so I stuck with a non smoking room. You may not believe this next statement but I swear it`s true. The front door of the room looked like it had been kicked in, so I had to prop a chair in front of it to feel safe and I`m a retired cop. Avoid this town at all costs. I took some photos, see for your self.

First of all, I am not a person that easily complains and goes back to management and asks for my money back. But after my stay at this hotel recently, I need to tell you what happened. Our shower cold faucet did not work - was a loose faucet; so we couldn't take a shower. My husband went to find the management later that evening - they were gone so he followed the instructions to call someone - which got him to no one. In the morning when checking out we asked to be compensated for part of our cost - the gentleman at the desk said he was not authorized to make those decisions. Nor would he give me the phone number of the person that was authorized. They were not apologetic or willing to compensate me $20. That is no way to take care of your customers. Not only that, he moved us to a different room after checking us in (the other room was not clean) and we noticed that the one other couple that came also went back to the office and moved rooms. Drive to another town - find a hotel there before staying at the Buena Vista.

This is a very old hotel with worn lines, and poor management. If you have any problems or need additional items, you have to wait until the manager comes onto the property, which is almost never. Our room smelled of cat urine. Horrible!!

Came down from Parkway ready for a rest after a day driving. Very nice looking older motel and very convenient to get back to Blue Ridge.
Immaculate landscape and outside of buildings.

The stench of the room was overwhelming and toilet seat was covered in urine. The bathroom floor was black with dirt literally. I wiped a small area with wash cloth and it was black not brown.

Not clean on INSIDE
