I'm writing this review a bit late since we stayed at Firmstone Manor in October. Entering the curved driveway, Firmstone Manor, a large Victorian home, loomed ahead. Continuing around the front of the house to the parking area, we were taken aback by the low cinderblock abandoned 1950's motel. Juxtaposed to the 19th century manor house, we were a bit...

I've read all the recent reviews with great interest. The superlative reviews have truth to them, but so does the relatively recent damning reviews. Here's a synopsis of the good and the bad as my wife and I saw it: 1. The first impression on driving in is unsettling and almost scary. The M nor itself is an impressive old...

Simply fantastic! 5 stars! Can’t say enough good things about Firmstone Manor. Other reviews talk about the fantastic decor and food. That goes double for us. But the best thing about the place is how Barbara makes you feel. Upon entering the house she makes you want to take off your shoes and put up your feet. Despite the formal...

We spent two nights at the manor over Memorial Day week-end. If you are looking for a spotless home in perfect condition, this is probably not the place for you. However, if you appreciate historical architecture and understand that the restoration process requires lots of time and money, and can see beyond some of the work that has yet to...

My wife and I stayed two nights and loved every moment. We sat out on the porch and relaxed on the hammock. Barbara was very accommodating, helping us to feel welcome, relaxed, and well-pampered. Her dogs were also very entertaining. We hope to return soon. Ron Pohlen

The owner Barbara was such a gracious host.We felt so welcome. We had a fruit basket in our room. She prepared the...

I agree with the Sunshine Helps review. My husband and I were there on a lovely May weekend, beautiful green lawn, bordering forest, quiet lane, stunning VA hills and mountains. This is a beautiful, historic house, a part of important regional history along with the iron works across the street. I enjoyed reading the history of this area. I felt...

I can understand the reaction of the couple who just visited and gave only a 1 star, especially given the weather during their stay – windy, cold and with snow/rain. When we drove up the same evening that they had departed, it was dusk and overcast and the bare trees lining the driveway seemed ominous. My husband also made a...

My husband and I have stayed at many bed and breakfasts over the years, usually for our anniversary. This year, I purchased a weekend stay at this establishment through Living Social. When we arrived, I felt like I was going in to the Bates Motel from the movie Psycho. This was the most dilapidated excuse for a B & B...

This B&B reminded me of being in a small town any where in Europe. The owner refurbished the house herself and it's a no frills no polish European style house. It has all original wood work and some original furnishing and art work. It has 2 floors with many different sitting rooms, a breakfast room and a nice porch downstairs....
