My wife and I had a wedding to attend in the Culpeper area. Microtel was one of the hotels that was recommend by the wedding company “the knot”. We arrived at the hotel at 210 pm. We asked to check in so we could get dressed because a bus was taking us to the venue at 3pm. The receptionist told us our room was ready but we would have to pay a 25.00 early check in fee if we wanted access before 3pm. That seemed at little ridiculous but what could we do. Accommodating the needs of guests is obviously not something the hotel does. I have never before had to pay 25.00 to access a room 45 minutes early. First and last time I will ever stay at a Microtel.
I booked this hotel for one night based on the generally positive reviews. It was my first stay at a Microtel. The staff was nice, check in/out easy, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was decent with good options although the coffee was rather weak. I don't mind hotels being older so long as they are clean. My room was very much in need of a deep cleaning. Grime in the corners, the desk chair had crumbs and glitter and whatever else ground into it, and I found hair in the bathroom on the surfaces, on my towels, and on the sheets. I will look elsewhere for a place to stay in Culpeper in the future.
I would recommend this as a stop if you are in wine country Virginia and want nice stay and clean environment the breakfast was hot and had variety plus the room was spotless and my request for another pillow was quickly handled lol
Great staff, clean, no bedbugs, great breakfast, home away from home love it,easy shopping close by, easy parking, lots of great restaurants for dining, quite and relaxing, free trolley to see around town you would really love this place
Management attempted to enter the room unannounced at 10pm to find out who was staying in the room, waking us up. I'm glad we had the extra locks on the door, She asked us our name, etc after checking us in only 4 hours earlier. I addressed it with her the next day to no real apology than her system was down and needed to know who was in the room. The stay other than that was good, rooms clean and decently priced for what we needed.
