We stayed in the Wakefield Suite this past weekend, which was huge, stylish, clean, and very comfortable. We had a great breakfast in the dining room each morning (even though the restaurant is not open to public for early morning breakfast, the chef is there and people staying at the hotel can have breakfast). The hotel is conveniently located for...

Thank you for your review! We are so glad that you had a great time staying here. Yes Chef Marvin does a nice breakfast for the guests and he loves being able to give the guests personal attention when they come down for breakfast. Look forward to having you stay with us next year when you are enjoying Caselton Festival;....

Stopped here for lunch on a recommendation of one in our party of four who had been here before. I ordered the chicken cheddar piccata sandwich on sour dough. The crust on the chicken filet was very crispy and the sour dough nicely grilled. It was so very good. I also had the beet medley salad. It had two varieties...

Won a weekend stay in a raffle for volunteers at WETA-FM's Classical Music station. Husband & I drove to the inn from DC via the Crest Hill route: beautiful, windy country roads with stunning views. Inn is not a former mansion but a former public elementary school, cleverly redesigned to great effect. Fun to try to superimpose in ones mind...

My husband and I have been to this beautiful restaurant twice this month, and our food, drinks, and service have been superb. Sitting out back is like being at a private club, and what a treat to tour the onsite garden to see what you are eating. Local wines and beers are featured. The live music is wonderful. What more...

I co-hosted a bridal shower here in May. Theresa helped me with planning the event and was just wonderful to work with and very helpful. We had planned to host the event on the patio outside, but the morning of the event, the weather was calling for rain, so we moved the event to the dining room. Even with the...

I have eaten here two dozen times and always loved it, today not so much. The menu has completely changed and it was terrible. I was with a large group of people and not one person enjoyed their meal. My soup was ice cold and the "meatball" sandwich was some sort of a strange meat combination. Now the wait staff...

We knew when we changed the menu that some people, like you, would love the “old” menu so much that any changes would be difficult to consider. Unfortunately, the old menu had 40+ items on it and stressed our kitchen’s capability. The new menu, while smaller, is still evolving and changes will be made on a regular basis. Our goal...

The decor is modern and refreshing, unlike overly-flowered decor of many B&B's in Virginia. My room was the smaller but seemed spacious enough and was clean. And if you have a dog you are not segregated as if you have the plague. Definitely a great place to stay. Only down side is that many of the locals seem to smoke...

We stay here once or twice a year because it's the nicest dog-friendly inn around, and the accommodations continue to be top-notch. The grounds are more beautiful every year. Staff is friendly and helpful, and rooms are beautiful and well-appointed. The wine and cheese plate that greeted us when we arrived after 7 hours on the road was wonderful beyond...

Stayed two nights in mid-May at this excellent inn in rural Flint Hill,VA. Entire staff was helpful and very accommodating. Our suite, Wakefield, was large and very well appointed. King size bed very comfortable. Restaurant service was excellent and food very good. We were able to take advantage of a restaurant package which provided comp wines which were excellent. Rooms...

After dining at The Inn at Little Washington the night before, all I wanted was a burger and nachos. On a recommendation from one of the servers at the Inn, we headed to Flint Hill, about 15 minutes from Little Washington for dinner. Public House is an interesting mixture of stately VA mansion and modern, swanky city eatery. Their menu...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
More than 100 years of history..Perched on a hill above the namesake village it overlooks, Flint Hill Public House & Country Inn is a large white house that is hard to miss. The building is a former schoolhouse that has been a fixture in the area for more than 100 years. In the early 1900s, a one-room schoolhouse was moved from the premises to make room for a new school called the Flint Hill School. Built in 1906, the new school was instrumental in educating Rappahannock County children until 1960, when the property was sold and became a private residence. In 1986, the schoolhouse/residence was sold and renovated and opened as The School House Restaurant. In 1992, the restaurant operation was leased as The Flint Hill Public House until it closed in 2008. In June 2011, new owners purchased the property and undertook an extensive renovation and redesign, hiring noted Washington, DC, architect Ernesto Santalla. The complete renovation took the building down to the bare walls and included moving an interior stairwell to the outside to accommodate four luxury suites on the expansive second floor. The new Flint Hill Public House & Country Inn opened in early 2012 – ready for another 100 years as a local landmark and gathering place. ... more   less
