Hotel Baia Grande is celebrated for its lively atmosphere, often highlighted by live music, although a few guests prefer a quieter setting. Many visitors commend the spacious and clean rooms, while some suggest a need for more amenities and upkeep. Opinions on value are divided; some find the pricing reasonable, but others consider the food and beverages overpriced. The hotel's cleanliness receives consistent praise, with the exception of the pool area, which some feel could be better maintained.
Service is generally well-regarded, with friendly staff, although rare instances of unprofessional conduct have been reported. The location is appreciated for its beach proximity, yet its quiet nature leads some to suggest planning for dining. Amenities like the pools and spa are valued, though guests also recommend enhancements.

Detailed Reviews
Been to Portugal many times but this was our first time at this Hotel.
Yes the hotel is a bit far out, but if you use Uber a taxi will cost no more than €7 into Albufeira town centre.
The hotel is lovely and so clean, with the exception of a few spots around the pool that always looked black and never dried. Also a few tiles need replaced in the jacuzzi part. The water in the pool is sooooo cold, I’ve never felt a pool so cold. Even when I got out I had goose bumps. Having said that it didn’t stop me from going in.
There is also a lovely beach about 15/20 mins walk from the hotel, with a lovely beach bar/restaurant.
Quiet location with not too much round it and not a very well equipped shop either.
We were not really impressed with the food at the hotel. It was ok but not great. My husband is by no means a fussy eater and he wasn’t impressed either.
Breakfast was the better of the two meals.
Food at the pool bar was nice.
Staff were always very helpful. Some looked a lot happier than others and the cleaners did a brilliant job the rooms and bar areas inside were always spotless.
( I noticed that when staff were clearing plates at meal times that some guests hardly even acknowledged them, never mind saying thank you. These people work very hard and they are not invisible, so please don’t ignore them. )
Happy Hour at the bar needs a bit more advertising.
The morning we were going home we had an early start7 am. So we ordered boxes from reception the night before.
Oh dear!!!!! The bags contained a drink, yogurt, apple and sandwich. We couldn’t take the drink or yoghurt through security and when we got to departure we got a drink and sat down to eat out sandwich which was soooo dry we had to bin it and the apple was so hard and bitter it went out too. So I would not advise ordering this.
All in all the hotel is clean and quiet and very comfortable but the food lets it down. I know this is only my opinion and people do enjoy it, but we spoke to others who stay at the hotel but don’t eat in it, so enough said.
Also I would like to mention the Jet2 rep Christiano. He is by far the best ever holiday rep we have ever come across. The most caring and knowledgeable rep by far.
Both my husband and I got badly bitten my mosquitoes and something else. He arranged for the hotel to put a bug plug into our room and phoned us every other day to see how we were.
He also told us about some fantastic restaurants. One was Adega dos Salgados, a Portuguese restaurant. If you love Portuguese food check this place out it’s amazing.
As I said, hotel good but food not so. Enjoyed our stay but don’t think we will rush back.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times, it is a very nice hotel, spotlessly clean. The rooms are very nice, cleaned every day and quite spacious.
The location is very nice with a few very nice restaurants within walking distance, I would recommend that you book the restaurants in advance as they are always busy because of their reputation.
The food in the hotel is typical hotel quality, we stayed bed and breakfast as the restaurants are far too good to miss. The bar food and the pool bar meals are very good.
I would recommend that you use Uber , they are very cheap and usually arrive in minutes, around 5/6 euro from the hotel into the old town.
The only downside for us this time was that the hotel has started letting Flair camp us the hotel for a week at a time , basically bar tending training, cocktail making and juggling bottles etc. We found the music far too loud coming from the basement room that they seemed to take over, also they trained beside the pool with music coming from a loud speaker.
We always come to this hotel for a quiet peaceful experience but to be honest it felt like the hotel was taken over by Flair camp for a week. In fairness it didn’t bother us too much , some very talented people amongst them and entertaining to watch.
It wouldn’t stop us returning to the hotel again, maybe just check Flair camp isn’t staying at the same time.
Staff are as usual very nice.
Lovely hotel, will return again.

We stayed 5 weeks and loved every day. The weather was really great. Room with seaview. Cleaned daily and we travelled with our own kettle. Breakfast as good as it gets with plenty to choose from to differ your breakfast every day. Lunch consisted of snacks available from the bar with a really tasty bacon burger, prego sandwich and generous portion of fries. Reception very accommodating and all staff really friendly. We took the 09.30 shuttle into Albufeira a few times. Where it drops you off is a handy cafe come bakery place with gorgeous nata's big croissants and bread. 2 doors down is a Spar supermarket for all your needs, and a taxi rank nearby will take you back to the hotel for around 8 euro. Dinner starts at 19.00 and a queue forms well before that as the dining rooms is a bit canteen like with the best tables lining the walls. All buffet, a daily freshly made soup and dinner catering for various nationalities. Every day there was plenty to choose from, freshly made and tasty. The bar had often live musical entertainment, even when not many were present. All in all good value, we booked the room through Mercury and got our flights from Jet2. booked the transfer with transfers for you.

The hotel is pleasant but not sure it warrants a four star rating.
The rooms are clean and tidy but have only basic features. Limited draw space, no coffee or tea making provided. The bathroom was fine with an over bath shower. The room cleaning was excellent.
The bar and lounge area is comfortable. A wide range of drinks are available at reasonable prices. There is a ‘Happy Hour’ each day with a 25% price reduction.
The staff are friendly and efficient.
The main issue I had was the quality of the food in the evening. At best it was average. I think we may have been unlucky that the main chef was not in the kitchen for 5 out of the 7 nights we were there.
Breakfast was ok but it would help if the coffee machine didn’t keep malfunctioning! Also removing the skin from the fruit would be sensible.
All in all a pleasant stay but could be really good with a little effort in the kitchen.

Sept23 Bed& Breafast
Just returned from a week at the Baía Grande hotel in Praia da Coelha Portugal booked through Jet2.
The hotel is situated a 10 min taxi ride away from Albufeira old town. Locally it has only 2 restaurants and 1 bar, so don’t be mislead by Jet2 advertising saying “900m from the nearest bars and restaurants” which suggests there’s a strip of bars and restaurants cos there isn’t.
The hotel itself is good, very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful and it never felt over busy.
Our room was clean and quite spacious but a little tired with mismatched wallpaper and laminated flooring lifting by the patio doors. We had a sea view room which overlooked the pool area and the views were stunning.
The breakfast is adequate. It’s the usual hot/ cold buffet style. Unfortunately precooked fried and scrambled eggs were rotated throughout the week on alternative days. IMO the breakfast would benefit from fresh orange juice( not machine concentrate) and freshly cooked egg / omelettes counter that I’ve come to expect in similar standard hotels.
The hotel has a great outside pool and bar area which is excellent . It’s spacious and has a lovely walk in pool. Again always very clean and tidy.
The hotel runs a free 8 seater shuttle to the beach and the old town everyday between 9:30 and 4:30. This is useful but not very flexibility as you cannot choose a time, the reception will only offer the next available slot. The cost of a taxi to the old town is about 8-9 euros, or a little cheaper if you use Uber.
The hotel has evening entertainment in the piano bar usually Solo or Duo performers. (Ironically it’s called the piano bar but no one plays the piano). To me the style of music was stuck in a time warp and boring. However if you want something a little bit more lively and up to-date then you will need to go to the old town which has lots of live music bars.

Amazing hotel if you want to be away from the busy old and new town.
The swimming pool has a great mix of a deep end to chill in and a very shallow end to sit and sunbathe in.
To travel to the old town it’s around €5 in an Uber and the new town arojnd €7. You can walk
From the old town to the new town in around 30 minutes or take the small land train for cheap.
As we were bed and breakfast we only enjoyed the breakfast and not the dinners. The breakfast was a large buffet style with everything you could possibly want. It is all very fresh no matter what time you arrive.
The rooms are clean and nice with a comfortable bed and large bathroom with shower, bath and toilet.
Our balcony was next to the diner so could be very loud and not very private however as we spent most of our time travelling around this did not bother us.
If you leave the hotel and travel to the cliffs next to it you can safely go down to a private beach which has beautiful sand and caves you can swim through. A must if you are physically active and stay at this hotel

Overall a nice hotel with very striving staff. Food in buffet form is great and rich (a little English-heavy). Pool area very nice, water clean, rooms clean. There is sauna and steam bath (included in the price) and massages (of course extra). But beware: the hotel is relatively remote, walk to the next bus stop 7 min, to the nearest supermarket a good 10 min, to the port of Albufeira about 30 min. You can fall quite in with the rooms - we had a room with a view of parking and dumpsters plus driving directions of the staff from 5:30 am. Swimming pool is only to be used with swimming cap, which is strictly monitored and enforced. Hence only a "mediocre".

We stayed at this hotel in June for ten nights bed and breakfast. I honestly can not believe some of the reviews, this hotel is a nice place to relax and unwind and I am so glad that we had the opportunity to stay here.
The hotel is set in a quiet but lovely area, it suited us down to the ground, there are some nice walks, there is an excellenct beach very close by with a lovely beach bar and the hotel has some amazing restaurants all within walking distance.
We had a sea view room which was spacious and attractive, very clean, fabulous for storage, a nice bathroom and a spacious and comfortable bed, we literally wanted for nothing!
The hotel itself is spotless, has lovely furnishings and interiors, atmospheric lighting and it generally gives you the feeling that staff are working very hard behind the scenes to bring comforts which can all too easily be taken for granted!
Breakfast was lovely and had a vast choice, and personally for me had a great choice of fresh fruit each day so that meant that I was particularly happy.
The pool area is lovely, a nice pool and lots of sunbeds. During our visit, I think less than half of the sunbeds were ever in use which meant that we had our own space each day and never felt crowded which was great.
We used the pool bar for lunch most days which provided excellent service and such lovely food, I recommend the pizza and the salads were beautiful, a lot of thought and detail had gone into the preperation of the food and we really appreciated the efforts made.
There is entertainment in the hotel each night which was pleasant but I must give a special mention to the violinist Rudy Jacket, that man is incredible, he is so talented and he completely made my holiday. We were fortunate to see him perform twice and I will never forget those performances. You are a star Rudy!
Last but not least I would like to mention the staff who are on the whole amazing. Service in the piano bar was surprisingly stern! We tried desperately to win the staff over but I feel that we may have failed and it made for a few uncomfortable moments. Reception staff were amazing, so friendly and efficient and always helpful. Staff at the pool bar work so hard and they are so kind, and staff in the breakfast lounge kept everywhere running efficiently. If we knew more names we would mention personally more staff but the ones in particular that we would like to thank was lovely Bernardo in the breakfast restaurant who was always so polite. Rui ramos in the pool bar who was organised and friendly and always looked after us. We would also like to mention Manouk who no matter where she was in the hotel always waved and said hello with a very warm smile, it is staff like those mentioned that create the special atmosphere that is so appreciated by customers like us.
May I take the opportunity to thank you all for such a wonderful stay, you are all doing a great job, we certainly left feeling happy, relaxed and cared for, thank you all!

We have been coming to this hotel fairly regularly for the last 20 years or so and have always loved it. This year we came for a week at the end of April and sadly it may be our last visit here. We felt the hotel was under siege.
This time we felt that the usual high standards had been relaxed to allow a rabble of cocktail shaker juggling team members from a company / association called Flair take over the hotel for the week. They were all single young men and women who spent virtually all day in a sectioned off area near the pool learning and honing the skills of cocktail shaker juggling. This wasn't too bad in the daytime but the worst of it was in the mornings and evenings in the restaurant. Every night the whole dining experience was turned into a school cafeteria. The noise was intolerable. There were people picking up food and eating it while walking around the restaurant to see their mates, people on tables shouting conversations across to another table where inbetween the two there were respectable couples trying to enjoy their eveing meals. Hygiene was out of the window with high fives everytime they came across each other at the salad bar. Dress code was ignored and totally unenforced. I even saw one guy regularly in evening meal wearing flip-flops, beach shorts and sleeveless vest. It was disgusting. The behaviour was the same at breakfast.
What happened to the restaurant staff in their waiter uniforms? I thought the restaurant manager was another holidaymaker - a young guy wearing faded jeans, casual shirt and trainers.
One night we were kept awake by two of them partying on the balcony of the room above our's. At 2.30am I went to reception to complain and was told there should only be one person in that room. I told him that this is what happens when you allow groups of singles. To give him his due he did go to tell them and the noise did quieten.
Perhaps this review only applies for the week we were there as we have had wonderful stays here over the years but I do feel standards have slipped and it seems a lot of the "old school" staff have gone.
If you do book this hotel just check that Flair aren't coming the same week. I suspect that they may come again around end of April - early May.

I am not sure. I emailed myself and asked if they provided kettle etc. and when we arrived they were waiting for us.. We did take our own coffee and tea and also powdered milk as we drink quite a few cups each day. The hotel is a lovely hotel, taxi ride from Center but rooms and all facilities excellent. Could not fault and recommend.
