spectacular top floor room view of Dordogne Valley at sunset. Modern, renovated bathroom with luxury shower and standalone tub. But the bedroom was a 1970s frumpy cottage style completely incongruent with the bathroom. This was a nice home base to explore the Perigord Noir, but pricey for the accommodations. The attached restaurant, despite the dated design and stiff rigidity, served us the best truffle Tournedos Rossini we’ve ever had. The staff was typically French.

This is my second stay at this unique and wonderful hotel. After reviewing over 450 hotels and restaurants, I only give 5 star reviews to those that are truly exceptional in some way. Here I rated both the hotel and restaurant as 5* for the first time ever.

This is owing in part to its amazing cliff top location on the edge of Domme overlooking miles of the Dordogne Valley several hundred feet below (perfect for watching the hot air balloons rise over the hills at dawn.

It is owing in part to the amazing half board dinner with three courses of amusement bouche before the entree, between the entree and wonderful plant and after dessert when one was already satiated.

But it is owing mostly to the warm welcome of our host and her ever present furry sidekick. I will return again and again and would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family.

Title says it all. Lunch with friends and dinner alone, sophisticated cooking served professionally in stylish surroundings. Slightly old-fashioned in the best possible way. Not cheap, but good value bearing in mind the location and quality of everything.

The receptionist Celeste was our first point of contact and she was exceptional in making us welcome and offering to help make dinner reservations. This turned out to be essential as Domme is a small town with many places closed on Sunday & Monday. But for us, it was a wonderful experience in every way. Our room looked out over the Dordogne river from high up on the cliff. We loved the terrace for late-afternoon drinks, and we ate at Auberge de la Rode, which we highly recommend.

We loved our stay at the Hotel Esplanade. The location and views are amazing. The restaurant is excellent and eating dinner on the terrace on a beautiful late summers evening overlooking the beautiful valley below was really special.
Unfortunately , we booked too late to get a room with a view but we still loved our stay

We stayed here twice (one day in 2015, three in 2022), and enjoyed both visits. When our car broke down on our way to Domme, Sophie (the manager/owner?) was very understanding, and welcomed us when we arrived late at night. Throughout our stays she was charming, chatty, and gave us some great tips for exploring the area. Her husband is the chef, and created some memorable meals for us. There is no elevator, but the amenities are appropriate for a three star hotel. As others have reported, the views of the Dordogne River Valley from the terrace are spectacular. Domme merits its reputation as one of the "most beautiful villages in France." It is small, and does not attract as many tourists as some of the other better-known towns in the area. I recommend waking early, when the clouds are still lingering in the valley below, for a quiet stroll through the cobblestone streets.

My wife and I stayed here April 26-29. We are so glad we did. The view of the Dordogne valley from our large, comfortable room was breathtaking. On a whim we decided to try the 1/2 board for our 3 nights. It was an excellent decision! The food was superior to most of the restaurants we ate in France over a three week trip. The service was exceptional. What an experience eating Michelin quality food while overlooking the vast verdant Dordogne valley. I should also mention that hotel prices were a screaming bargain. This place is an absolute treasure and a one of a kind experience. I highly recommend it.

Nice cozy family run establishment. The rooms are on the small side but A/C works and we had a huge bathroom with separate tub. The location is exceptional and the view from our room and from the terrace was breathtaking ! The only thing that was slightly annoying to us was that guests can smoke at tables outside and while the occasional cigarette smoke doesn’t bother me, full whiffs of cigar smoke while I’m trying to enjoy dinner isn’t optimal.
Would recommend and would go back!

Superb. Beautiful setting, friendly, efficient staff, view from room, overlooking the valley of the Dordogne, is the stuff of dreams, with hot air balloons dancing on the morning mist, and 'Technicolor' sunsets that go on forever until at last they fade softly into the velvet night. Full of character, full of charm, it is as if it has been placed at the top of its hill, solely for those who have made the fascinating journey, through Domme's ancient winding streets, to find their own personal 'Shangri la'. I'm not sure if time stopped while we were there, but I think it probably did. Go !

Good views but bathroom was a disappointment. The toilet didn’t flush every time, the enamel in the bath was worn away and very low water pressure for a shower. Room cleaned one day and not the next. No tea or coffee making available. Received one small bottle of water for 2 people
