We loved our stay but were willing to embrace a very old building and all that goes with it. Having said that the room was comfortable, the shower good and plenty of storage. What else did we want. Well breakfast which was very substantial with plenty of variety. The hosts were very welcoming and very helpful. Bacharach has lots of places to eat, and bars, all a few minutes walk away.
I read all the reviews and because it is a Rick Steve recommendation we booked 2 nights. We have stayed in old castles and hotels in Europe numerous times thus we were ready for stairs, funky bathrooms with old plumbing. However this place is simply old, rundown and very tired. The halls are dark with covered furniture, worn carpet. The breakfast meal was uneventful. I would not recommend a stay here.
We stayed for 2 nights and loved the place. Our room had a view of the castle on one side and the river on the other. I read reviews before staying and was concerned about train noise but was surprised how little it affected our sleep. Of course being on the tracks, you are going to get some noise but what do you expect? The ambience of this 700 year old building far out weighs the down side. Our hosts, Mr & Mrs Lee were helpful & accommodating and made our stay in Bacharach wonderful. The breakfast was very good with nice selections of hot and cold foods, as well as a nice selection of drinks. After staying here, I would say you should take the negative reviews with a grain of salt and ask yourself what you want out of your stay. If the answer is experiencing the history in comfort, then stay here.…
Yes, it is an old building, which means it doesn't have air conditioning or elevators. But so what! We didn't need the air conditioning in September and we didn't mind the stairs. We also had a room on the backside of the hotel, so the rumbling of the train didn't bother us either. The room was nice, the buffet breakfast was bountiful, and the owners were very friendly and helpful.
Stayed two nights in the hotel. We arrived but had to call as the front door was locked but Mrs. Lee met us there in less than 2 minutes. Very friendly and made our stay great. The room was just what you would expect from a castle wall hotel. Don't come here looking for the same square room layout. Each room is unique and uses every inch of space. We stayed on the backside of the hotel on the 4th floor (European 3rd floor). No lift but as we read the reviews we knew to pack light. Breakfast was served on the first floor, bacon and eggs with the traditional European fare of meats and cheeses, yogurt and cereals. Trains do run all day and night from where we stayed the in the back it didn't bother us, but if you were on the lower floors facing the river might be a different story. Overall enjoyed the uniqueness of the place and loved the small town of Bacharach in the fall.…
