We stayed here our first night off the plane in Portugal with our two college kids, who were on spring break. What a beautiful place --- and it was so relaxing to recover from jet lag while walking around the palace grounds. The dining room is especially lovely, and the breakfast buffet was great. And for the price of about...

This is a five star hotel that can sometimes be booked for less than $100 a day. It is far from the beaten path, definitely not a business hotel, nor one to bring the kids. It was built in the 19th century and is extremely ornate and fancy. Food is good. Lovely gardens. Huge displays of famous blue and white...

I was intrigued by the gardens and overall description of this place. Overall a very good experience. I really wanted to love this place but it is a mixed bag. Overall a unique stay. As noted in other reviews, the rooms are in need of updating. The construction of the structure and common areas are awesome, and the grounds along...

First of all, you have the possibility to stay in an actual palace. How cool is that! It is a beautiful building, the tilework inside is amazing, and the grounds are absolutely gorgeous. You aren't allowed inside unless you are a hotel guest, so staying at the hotel is your only opportunity to wander these historic halls. The food is...

We stayed here 29 years ago on our honeymoon and absolutely fell in love with the enchanting palace and grounds. We had one of the most memorable meals on the terrace and then walked the grounds. We came upon it by accident and decided to stay. We got the very last room for that night in July 1987. From all...

This is an interesting place which exposes the visitor to the history and the architecture of the past. It is not luxurious despite the attempts made to provide the visitor with items such as a robe and a slipper offered in luxury hotel. The breakfast is excellent but getting dinner is very expensive. The staff members are friendly and helpful....

A place fit for Royalty and retaining its past glory thanks to meticulous maintenance and incredible architectural and decoration legacy. A true gem in the North of Portugal only 1hour from Porto and a stone's throw to some of the best spas in the country, being located near the Luso springs. Not to be missed for it offers exquisite food,...

If you are on a driving tour, and have an afternoon to do something extravagant that you'll never do anywhere else in the world, take the long drive up to this over-the-top elegant fairy tale hotel/palace. set in the middle of the National Forest. Splurge and have lunch in the circular fine frescoed dining room - elegant soups, salads, entrees,...

An impressive place, decorated as a palace, big... Immense actually. The grounds are meticulously tendered by an army of gardeners, really nice. Situated in a national forest and offers peace and quiet. The rooms are dated, the furniture is old, seen better days many years ago but if you spend most of the hours away then no issue. Breakfast is...
