The Yeatman hotel is celebrated for its exceptional value, clean and serene environment, and luxurious amenities, including a spa and panoramic vistas of Porto that enchant its guests. While the hotel's location offers spectacular views, accessing these scenic heights can be challenging due to steep hills. Guests commend the generally attentive and professional service, despite occasional lapses. The hotel's atmosphere is characterized as whimsical and elegant, although some travelers suggest the rooms could be refreshed. Overall, the Yeatman's offerings leave many visitors satisfied, with room views being a standout feature.

Stayed for one night at the end of a four night stay in Porto in order to experience the amazing views from the other side of the river. On that front everything was great. The location is superb for sunset over the old city, and the outdoor pool / bar is a beautiful place to hang out on a late summer afternoon.

Rooms were spacious and generally well appointed, but with an inexplicably ugly multi-coloured bin in the bathroom with various brightly coloured compartments for different types of object that are simply never gonna end up in a hotel bathroom bin in the first place. Seriously, what is the point of going to such effort with interior design just to ruin it with this pointless monstrosity?

I felt the pool bar closed rather too early (6pm) given that sunset isn’t until after 9pm, but that’s a small issue. The main rooftop bar was lovely although quite busy resulting in somewhat slow service. And then there were the obnoxious disco lights and music from below, destroying the otherwise idyllic ambiance.

It was disappointing that there was only a buffet option at the main restaurant on the Sunday night we stayed, given that the fine-dining restaurant also closes on Sunday. The hotel recommended (during the check in orientation) sampling the ‘myriad dining facilities’ at the nearby World of Wine complex (a property development from the same company). So we headed down, and so did our experience from then on….

The World of Wine (or WOW) is a stain on the hotel’s brand, image and reputation. It is a soulless, tacky, glorified conference centre / shopping mall, developed in the midst of an otherwise historic city. Judging by the lack of customers, it is also a failing business project. The ‘best cultural district’ is an absurd claim for the least cultured part of a city that is the definition of culture itself. Unfortunately it dominates the area beside (below) the Yeatman, and it there isn’t really anything much else within walking distance at night. We weren’t surprised by this place - the name ‘WOW’ says it all really. So tacky.

Unfortunately, when I reflect on our stay at the Yeatman, the hideous WOW just intrudes on every memory. It is actively promoted throughout the hotel, from staff recommendations, to discount tickets in the room to even an entire book written on the project and placed in guest rooms for residents to read and understand the ‘greatness’ of this concept. It may be ok as a conference / exhibitor centre, or maybe somewhere to take kids on a school trip, but it has no place in association with what purports to be one of the top luxury hotels in the city.

We stayed two nights at the Yeatman in connection with a National Geographic tour. The hotel is terraced on the side of a hill and its architecture can only really be truly appreciated by viewing the hotel from across the Duoro River. All of the rooms are located below the lobby. Every room has a gorgeous view of the river and the old city of Porto. The public areas of the hotel are decorated beautifully, with some interesting art and a collection of signed soccer jerseys. All of the hallways have motion detector lights, which is pretty unique in our experience and a good energy saving idea. Our room was a reasonable size, included an outdoor sitting area, was nicely furnished and the bed linens were so comfortable we wanted to take them home. The hotel sports an outdoor pool, an indoor pool and a good sized fitness center. I liked the fact that I could access the pools and fitness center from my room without having to walk through the lobby areas. For runners, there is a great running path along the river (but which requires a steep uphill climb on the way back!). As noted above, the hotel is located on the other side of the river from the old city, meaning that getting to the old city requires a 30 minute walk (over the nearby bridge) or travel by vehicle. We found it easier to walk. Note that Porto is very hilly in general, especially the old city, which is the most interesting part of town. There are numerous restaurants and shops within easy walking distance from the hotel, again requiring some walking down and back up the hill. The staff was friendly and attentive. All in all, the Yeatman feels very new and very well maintained, is a world class luxury hotel and we loved our stay.

My experience at The Yeatman was disappointing, especially given the high price. The value for money is poor, and the quality offered falls far short of expectations, particularly when compared to other 4- and 5-star hotels, both nationally and internationally.

The breakfast service was weak. Table service was inefficient and lacked attentiveness—something that should be a priority in a hotel of this category. The overall impression was one of neglect, and the attention to guests left much to be desired.

The rooms are outdated, and the facilities were below par. During our stay, the air conditioning in one of the rooms was not working, leaving the space uncomfortably cold. The solution provided by the hotel was to supply oil heaters, which I found unacceptable, disgraceful for a hotel of this reputation, and highly impractical.

The New Year’s Eve dinner, prepared by a Michelin-starred chef, was the biggest disappointment of all. Despite the high expectations, the overall quality was quite poor. Furthermore, I had informed the hotel in advance about the need for a vegan option, but what was provided was extremely lackluster and uninspired. Shockingly, the vegan/vegetarian options from room service were more varied and of better quality than the so-called special dinner. This was deeply disappointing and fell far below expectations.

The only truly positive aspect of the stay was the breathtaking view from the 8th and 9th floors.

In summary, The Yeatman failed in several fundamental aspects for a hotel of its reputation. The overall experience did not justify the high price, and I left feeling disappointed and frustrated. I do not recommend this hotel and certainly do not plan to return.

Dear Mrs. Erica L, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We sincerely regret to hear that your stay at The Yeatman did not meet your expectations, particularly considering the high standards we strive to maintain. We are grateful for the opportunity to address your concerns and would like to offer our sincerest apologies for the issues you encountered. Your feedback regarding the breakfast service and the inefficiency of the table service has been noted. We understand how important attentive service is, especially in a hotel of our category, and we will address this with our team to ensure we provide the level of care and service our guests deserve. We are truly sorry to hear about the issues with the air conditioning in your room, and we recognize that the solution provided was far from ideal. This is certainly not the standard we aim to provide, and we will be reviewing our maintenance procedures to prevent similar situations in the future. Regarding your experience with the New Year’s Eve dinner, we deeply regret that the meal did not live up to your expectations, especially considering the effort made to provide a special dining experience. We also apologize for the vegan options not meeting the high standard we aim for. This feedback is invaluable to us, and we will be looking into improving the quality and variety of our special menus, especially for dietary requirements. We are glad, however, that you enjoyed the breathtaking view, which is certainly one of the highlights of our location. Once again, we thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, and we assure you that we take all feedback seriously as it helps us improve our offerings. We hope that you might consider giving us another opportunity in the future to provide a stay that reflects the high standards The Yeatman is known for. Best regards, The Yeatman

This is a 5 star hotel with a price to match. As a Chateau Relais hotel , you expect everything to be perfect. And for the most part ,it was. The public areas are absolutely stunning and the view over to Porto is breathtaking. You simply can't take your eyes off the vista. We liked the location. The major sights are across the river and none were more than a 10 Euro ride away. Of course the Port houses are along the river near the Yeatman. Rooms are large and luxurious, and the bed was very comfortable. We were in executive room with a private veranda and green space right outside the room. Once again the view over to Porto was stunning. The bathroom has a soaking tub and separate shower with French products. There is tons of storage and closet space. Be advised if you are on floors 1 through 4, you will have to take 2 different elevators and have quite a long walk to your room. However the hallways are beautifully decorated and the new building has lots of interesting decor. The concierge was very helpful with directions. The couple of things that they could do better: service at the pool and on the terraces was practically non existent. We and others had to track down the attendant to order drinks, the outside pool is freezing, and service in the lounges was also slow. The service in the gastronomic restaurant was excellent but the other areas were sadly lacking. The breakfast which cost 25 euros per person if you do not have it included with your room was disappointing. Items were not replenished and once again we had to chase down a wait staff for coffee . These are picky things but once again it's the service that distinguishes a Chateau Relais hotel. My only other trivial comment is every other Chateau Relais hotel I have stayed at, including another one in Portugal, had a small welcome gift in the room, this one did not.

We booked a private dining experience at the Yeatman for a milestone birthday, including a drinks reception on the terrace with canapes, and a formal dinner with wine pairing in the Imperial Room.
Communication with the events team was flawless throughout. We were able to view the room before finalising our booking and the team was very responsive in the run-up to the event, answering e-mails quickly and generally being flexible with any requests, even when these involved last-minute changes.
The event itself surpassed all of our expectations, which were, admittedly, high given the Yeatman’s top-tier reputation. We were allocated a private section of the beautiful terrace (with stunning city views) and the restaurant staff were extremely attentive from start to finish, constantly replenishing the delicious and inventive canapés and topping up our drinks.
The meal was a true fine-dining experience showcasing the very best of Portuguese wines. The staff proved to be very knowledgeable in explaining the individual courses and the wines on offer. Service was, again, highly attentive without being intrusive. In short, the whole experience was worth every penny and we wouldn’t hesitate to return to the Yeatman for dining, or indeed for an overnight stay, in the future.

An extremely beautiful and delightful experience. From the moment you arrive, you are taken care of literally, everything from getting your car and luggage. Once you are checked in, the reception staff takes you to your room and explains how everything functions in said room. All the rooms have a view of the river and Porto and yet, when you are on your balcony, you are unseen by other people. The whole hotel is elegantly decorated with each floor having a dedicated theme.

Yes you walk a lot but it is all worth it for the privacy you get. Service is splendid in the bar and restaurant as well. We were a tad disappointed that the Michelin Star restaurant was closed when we were there...I guess we will have to go back. Instead we had lunch at the Orangerie which was good but where the menu could have been more explicit about the spiciness of certain dishes, the lobster salad dressing was too spicy and acidic for me to be able to enjoy it fully. My husband's dish of pig's cheeks with barley and spinach was delicious.

In order to celebrate my husband's birthday, I asked the concierge on the day we arrived to find us a private tour in English for the next morning and she managed to secure one of the best and most knowledgeable tour guides we have ever had (His name sounds like Elders).

This hotel is probably one of the best hotels in the country, if not the best.

I have been a customer for over 12 years, and each time I leave I know I want to come back as fast as possible.

It is so well thought, kept, decorated and maintained, all topped with the best staff ever, that one never gets tired.

The location, view, smells, touch feel and all the other sensations is absolutely mesmerizing.

This is all topped with some of the best most refined food in Europe and a top class SPA. Food is created by a Michelin Chef, that looks into making each plate a unique experience. It´s absolutely amazing.

It would be a large cliché on my side to keep on adding positive remarks and comments. Its really the best ever.

Its is one of those places everyone should try, at least once in their lives.

The views over Porto and the Douro river are amazing, the decoration and feel of the place, from the reception to the corridors to the extremely well decorated and comfortable rooms. And the beds…divine!

The staff is hand picked top notch, highly educated and courteous. The perfection

See the view in the attached photos. its this view you get form all rooms, from all restaurants, spa, bar etc. Just go.!

Located in Villa Nova de Gaia on the shore opposite Porto, this beautiful hotel offers panoramic views of Porto. The hotel is located on the heights above the Porto cellars. A panoramic swimming pool allows you to enjoy the view while swimming.
The suites are comfortable and spacious and also allow you to benefit from this splendid view. 2 Michelin star restaurant but be careful it is closed on Sundays. Valet parking… wine shop on site at cost….
Magnificent hotel.
2 small remarks however, the tiles coming off in the swimming pool are not serious but not worthy of this standard. Prices are a little high for Portugal: €5 for an espresso when it costs one euro at a café for example
Otherwise, the hotel is very luxurious and the service is top notch.

Hotel faces Porto so has the best views with outside space and amazing views from all if not most bedrooms. The higher you are the more expensive room category though I think all are same or similar sizes.

Our room 208 was on 2nd floor in 'new' extension round the side closer to the bridge, so still great views and lovely balcony, open on 3 sides, very sunny. The room is huge and bright. The bed is one of the most comfortable ever with the softest linen. It has everything you would expect in 5 star hotel room, my only thought is that there should be a second comfortable chair as there is only one and if too cold to sit outside, only one person has the comfy chair, the other an upright desk chair, also there should be a small table with the comfy chair, there is so much space, it would not be overcrowded, otherwise a perfect lovely bedroom.

Note: all bedrooms on levels 1-3 you need to take 2 lifts, once navigated, its very easy. Plus, on several levels you have easy access direct to the large grassed terrace below the pool so no need to traipse down the interior corridors which wrap around the cliff. Also, when coming/going from outside, you can access with key card from level 4 to the security exit gate on side street.

We dined one night in the seating next to bar area. A limited but very good snack menu.

There is parking onsite, extra cost of €20 per night, the valet kindly park it for you and bring it back. Concierge also provided good recommendation for dinner, exactly what we wanted. Usually we have found in hotels the restaurants recommended by hotel are to be avoided, not so in this case!

I highly recommend staying here especially when weather is warm so can enjoy being outside with space and view to relax. Easy to walk over bridge to Porto.
