Hilton Porto Gaia has garnered praise for its comfortable amenities, including cozy beds and a robust breakfast selection, coupled with breathtaking views. While the spacious and modern rooms are a hit, some guests have mentioned noise and upkeep issues. Nestled in a prime location, the hotel offers easy access to nearby attractions and serene scenery. Despite a generally commendable level of cleanliness and a stylish atmosphere, service experiences have varied, with both accolades for attentiveness and critiques regarding delays. Travelers note that extra costs, particularly for the SPA and pool, can detract from the hotel's value.

Excellent hotel, in the one that was our first visit.

Being acquaintances and fans of Quinta da Boeira, from the same group, we were surprised and many satisfied with what we found in this hotel.

With an exceptional location, next to the Cais de Gaia, complemented by an excellent underground parking lot (large and easily accessible), the hotel has a fantastic presentation, with a very well decorated hotel lobby and reception with very high ceilings.

We were very well received at the reception, with quick check-in and access to the room with a very nice panoramic elevator.

Large room, larger than in Quinta da Boeira but with several elements in common and the same quality of shape.

Unfortunately due to bad weather, the spa and indoor pool were more crowded than expected and we did not get a vacancy in the intended period on the day of arrival. It was one of the reasons for booking and choosing the hotel, but it will stay for a next stay, which will surely be repeated several times.

Room with bed and cushions very comfortable, absolute silence during the entire stay. Room Service letter similar to Quinta da Boeira (point to point) and food prepared quickly and with very intuitive ordering system can be made online via the App, without the need for a phone call.

Exceptional breakfast. One of the best in any 5-star hotel, wide variety, very large and comfortable room.

Dream stay to repeat several times.

Nothing negative to point out. There was a detail of preparation in the room where the coffee cups were not placed in the room upon arrival, but exemplary settled after contact with the reception.

An exceptional hotel, undoubtedly recommended and we hope to be able to return as soon as possible.

A great offer from the Hilton chain alongside Quinta da Boeira, with a choice of stays of the highest level in the city of Gaia.

Stayed 6 nights around Christmas. This is a new, stylish hotel in a great location. The rooms, the lobby, the lighting and everything was beautifully designed.

As Diamonds we were nicely upgraded, with an executive room first, then to one of the two level suites later in the stay.

The breakfast was fantastic, with plenty of healthy food and very vegan-friendly as well. Service was impeccable at breakfast with staff quickly replenishing anything that was running low.

The fitness center was large with a great selection of equipment including a TRX, which was appreciated.

Overall we had a fantastic stay and the club room was very nice to accomodate us as vegans and offer us some extra salads and appetizers.

We did have a minor hassle at checkout with an issue, but the team resolved it quickly. This was a great hotel and if we return to Porto we would definitely just stay here again. Highly recommend!

I cannot say enough about this hotel. Located across the river on the Gaia side of Porto, this is an upscale hotel at very affordable prices. My room was large with spacious shower and bathroom, big comfy bed and a couch, and a great view. Everything was quiet and well maintained and an easy 20-30 minute walk across the river to get to attractions in Porto.

Breakfast buffet was more than enough for $20 (would easily be $40 or more at a hotel in the U.S.)

Easy valet if you arrive with a car, or a $7 uber ride to the train station

Stayed here for 3 nights in March 2024. The hotel is very spacious and has a nice design, dark earthy tone throughout. Gym is also well equipped, and must try out their pool and spa area, heated pool suitable for all seasons, and that mood changing shower stall is cool. Tried the buffet breakfast last day cos had to head to the airport somewhat early. Great service and everything was tasty, with free flow sparkling wine, an omelette station that can cater to all types of egg dishes, however slightly limited on the hot item offerings. They also offered us a voucher for a glass of free port wine at their lounge with nice river view over happy hours, very nice touch.

Despite plenty of positives, there are some shortcomings (nothing major, and can be overlooked and mitigated) with this hotel. The toilet room is separated from the bath and sink area, so after use, one would need to wash their hands in the bidet if doesn't walk out and over to the bathroom, and the gap of the door is quite big, and doesn't securely closed and moves inward on its own (we used the room slipper as a door stop). In an effort to hide the USB plug, the design doesn't allow any charging wire that doesn't fit in that frame surrounding that slot. The spa does not allow the use of their lockers (maybe it's for patrons who actually pay for the spa use?), so don't bring anything that is valuable just in case. One last thing, personally I dislike the very strong cense/perfume that they spray throughout the hotel (it has a very artificial chemical smell). Our room was very close to where they spray and it was so strong that I had to hold my breath every time I went in and out of the room.

Dear AKLVancouver_Canada_, Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Hilton Porto Gaia! We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the spaciousness and design of our hotel, particularly the dark earthy tones that create a welcoming ambiance. It's fantastic to know that you found our gym well-equipped and that you had a great experience in our pool and spa area, especially enjoying the heated pool and sensory showers. We are delighted that you had a memorable dining experience at our buffet breakfast, and we're pleased that you appreciated the attentive service and the complimentary sparkling wine. We'll certainly take note of your feedback regarding the variety of hot items offered. Your comments regarding the shortcomings you experienced are greatly appreciated as well. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the layout of the toilet room and the door gap, and we'll certainly look into ways to improve these aspects. Additionally, we will review the design around the USB plug for better functionality and address the issue with the spa lockers. We also understand your concern regarding the strong scent used in the hotel, and we'll take steps to ensure it is less overpowering in the future. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we strive to provide exceptional experiences for all our guests. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Hilton Porto Gaia in the future for an even more enjoyable stay. Best regards, Mariana Catarino Guest Relations

Hello,

Following our recent stay at Hilton, we would like to share our experience to help improve your services. Unfortunately, we found several negatives that did not live up to the standards expected of a renowned hotel.

Late welcome and prolonged wait
When we arrived on Friday night at 11.30pm, it took us more than 30 minutes to get our room, which significantly detracted from our first impression.

SPA became paid without prior information
Once there, we discovered that access to the SPA was now paid for. When we booked on the Hilton website, this information was not clearly mentioned, which generated disappointment.

Problem with the catering service
We placed an order through the Hilton app at 12:10 a.m., but after a 40-minute wait, we had to contact the service to learn that the system was not working properly and that our order had not been registered.
A new order was placed, but the delivered pizza contained ham instead of the requested Margherita.
After returning this pizza, we had to wait another 10 minutes to finally receive our correct order, almost an hour after our initial request.
We thank the staff for the commercial gesture of not charging for pizza, but this situation could have been avoided with better tracking of orders.

Problem at breakfast
The next morning, our friend, joined us for breakfast at 10:20. Not having this option included in his booking, he paid €30 without being informed that the service closed at 10:30. This lack of information reduced the value of the experience for him, but also for us.

Conclusion and application
Overall, we were disappointed by the quality of service, which we felt was well below the usual standards of a Hilton hotel. These incidents, combined, affected our stay.
Sincerely,

Having requested a river view, we were upgraded to a king duplex with a view of louis bridge and Ribeira, a real bonus . It was one of our first experiences as gold members not to have access to the Executive Lounge also. We were told that was for Diamond members only. However I see from previous review that is not strictly true.
I realise that this is discretionary and must say the lovely big room we were allocated was great and much appreciated, especially as the hotel does not have that many river view rooms.
The cocktail lounge has good views and is reasonably priced.

We arrived very late and were pleased to have a fruit and pastry platter and lots of bottled water in our room. Not so good on arrival, near midnight, was the complex multiple electrical light/ curtain switches in the duplex, also lack of robes for the duration of our stay and milk for the tea/ coffee at the beginning. We kind of worked out the lighting the next day.

Breakfast was heavily weighted to cakes and pastry which were all good. Coffee was served by staff in jugs, a bit hit and miss; one morning luke-warm and weak, the next perfect... always slow to be served, ditto plate clearance, despite lots of staff on the floor. A self serve bean to cup machine would be much better. You can have bucks fizz if you like.

We really loved the location, so close to the port wine cellars, lovely restaurants, a food market, boat tours (6 bridge tour is good). cable car station to upper deck of Luis bridge. You can also walk across Luis bridge and get the funicular there if you want to avoid the steep climb to the city. The nearest metro to the hotel is jardim do morro about 20 mins walk away . The gray line sightseeing bus is a really good day time option as the orange line picks up close to the hotel. You can then change to blue line which goes to the coast and back.
I would recommend this hotel over those across the river that I've seen for its peaceful location, amenities, views and proximity (walking and transport) to all the sights. If not for the small niggles would have got 5 stars.

Always a debate which side of the river to go for when visiting Porto but this Hilton works really well. After a long day walking the hills of the city it was lovely to return to use the large indoor pool, jacuzzis and spa facilities followed by an evening drink in the sky lounge bar watching the sun set over the river. Rooms were very large with a massive shower suitable for at least 2 people, blackout curtains and quiet air con. Breakfast was substantial but with so many alternatives outside the door only have if its in a good room rate otherwise expensive. Enjoying Porto was easy using the funicular for cable car for the ascents (or both), great bars and restaurants in this area including a rooftop bar at Porto Cruez, go earlier to get a seat under the cable cars as the evening sets. On this side of the river we enjoyed the port cellars and history of one of the main industries of the area. Six bridges river cruise also accessed this side if needed.Highly recommend.

I was looking forward to three nights in the relatively new (it’s around two-years old) Hilton Gaia Porto. In advance things looked good. The Hotel were in touch to arrange an upgrade – I’m a Hilton Honors Lifetime Diamond which means I’ve spent 1,000 nights plus in Hilton Group Hotels and been a regular Diamond for more than 10 years. Such are the qualification requirements we are thin on the ground!

Unfortunately, on arrival, the level guest service was poor. In 36 hours in the Hotel I experienced more than 20 issues from a failure of Housekeeping to clean my room, Room Service when the wrong items were delivered and the staff argued about this, an awful breakfast offering, many faults with the room from which it was clear that no member of staff had ever stayed in a room, poor cable TV options, and promises from senior staff to ‘make it right’ which have not been honoured on check out.

I will post a more comprehensive review detailing the issues over the next couple of days. For now I’d recommend selecting an alternative Hilton Group Hotel in Porto.

The Hilton in Porto has been on our travel list for a long time. Now we have finally been able to plan it and we were not disappointed.

Staff / Check In:
We were greeted very friendly and in a good mood. Check-in was super pleasant and we didn't have to point out anything or ask anything. The staff informed us about everything during check-in. That's what you often want in a 5-star hotel.

Room:
We noticed the honor of the HH status in the very nice upgrade to a duplex suite on the 4th floor. Very spacious and modernly designed. Bathroom with 2 separate toilets. The only thing that took some getting used to was that the large wardrobe is downstairs and not upstairs in the bedroom. Still a great room

Breakfast:
The breakfast buffet offers everything your heart desires. Various juices, sparkling wine, smoothies, coffee, which you can order from the very attentive staff. An egg station where various variations are freshly prepared. A small children's buffet and a large tea station are available. There was also a large selection for various food intolerances.

Other:
On the day of arrival there was a nice little welcome greeting in the room, in the form of local pastries and fruit. Unfortunately, you don't see that very often in Europe anymore. The executive lounge was unfortunately moved to the lobby for 2 days. Nevertheless, the quality of the food on offer and the ambience were excellent. The real lounge is on the 3rd floor right next to the bar. This offers an excellent view of the river and the Ponte Dom Luis bridge. Everything is modern and comfortably furnished. Ms. Soares has everything in the lounge well under control. The spa with a large heated pool is also great: sauna, relaxation room, experience showers, everything is there and well maintained.

Conclusion:
Despite a small incident with housekeeping, which didn't put us in a negative mood for long due to the attentive actions of Ms. Banhudo and Mr. Santos, it was a very positive stay overall. A really great 5 star hotel where everything is just right and you'll be happy to come back. I can only recommend it.

Review of Hilton Porto

I stayed at the Hilton Porto for one night while attending a candlelight show, and overall, it was a lovely experience.

The room was clean, modern, and well-equipped. While I didn’t get the best view, it didn’t detract too much from the experience. The bed, however, was a standout—exceptionally comfortable and perfect for a restful night.

The staff were wonderful—attentive, friendly, and always ready to assist. Their professionalism added a lot to the stay.

One thing to note is that you need to book in advance if you want to use the pool or spa, which can feel a bit restrictive if you’re not planning ahead.

Breakfast was fantastic, with a wide variety of options. I particularly appreciated the attention to detail, like labeling allergens for each dish, which is a thoughtful and practical touch.

This was one of the highlights of the hotel. The restaurant offers an exquisite view of the Douro River and the city of Porto, making it a perfect spot to unwind with a drink. While I wasn’t a huge fan of the vegan options, the overall quality of the food was great, and the ambiance was unbeatable.

Overall, the Hilton Porto provides a comfortable, high-quality stay with great service and memorable touches. It’s an excellent choice, especially for special occasions or a quick getaway in the city.

Answer from Wings
Miami, Florida379 contributions205 helpful votes
Hello , There are several options to the Hilton Porto Gaia. You mentioned you are flying . You did not mention the airport. If flying into Lisbon, there is train service to Porto for the Gaia station. From the Gaia station you can take the ascension and the hotel is about a block from the ascension station. If you are flying into Porto, then you may also take the train from Porto airport to the Gaia station and then to the Ascension . Also, if you have an Uber account, you can make a request for a driver to take from the Porto airport to the Hilton Porto Gaia. Also. you can call the Hilton Porto Gaia concierge desk through What’s App. Ask for either Marianna or Francesca. The phone number is: +351 932 408 455. Hope one of these tips may help ypu with your stay in Porto at the Hilton Porto Gaia.
