Back when SLH had a partnership with Hyatt, this property came into my radar planning my trip to Portugal. After seeing photos of the pool/spa, I immediately knew I wanted to stay here. Booking direct through the hotel instead of via Hyatt actually was more favorable in terms of price but also what they included which at the time was a promo for an upgraded room and breakfast.

Location: I took a train up from Lisbon and got off at the Gaia station which is before going into Porto. Initially I thought I could get an Uber or taxi, but the station was pretty empty with no taxis around. With no wifi or mobile connection, I wasn't able to get an Uber so I ended up just walking. Fortunately, it was a downhill walk to the hotel from the station and it wasn't bad at all. After sitting on the train for a couple hours, it was a nice stroll. This hotel isn't actually in Porto, but right across the river in Gaia which was perfect for offering the best quintessential views of Porto and the Douro river right from your hotel room! The area is so small and easily walkable or via ferry across that my initial worries about location were quickly relieved.

Room: I believe all rooms look out to the river so there isn't a bad room here. My room had an outdoor balcony/patio space which allowed me to open up the doors and let the fresh air in while hearing the sounds of the bustle of the river activities. The room is quite spacious with dining area, a small kitchenette area, and sitting area. The bathroom was large and had an ADA shower. The complimentary snacks and bottle of wine were such a treat and really impressive in terms of the offerings. I couldn't consume it all so I took them back as gifts for friends/family.

Highlights: The pool and spa. The breakfast was among the best I've had at a hotel and I probably ate the best pastel de nata here! The service was friendly, cordial, and professional. At check-in they even walked me up to my room to make sure it suited me.

I also had lunch at the rooftop which offered spectacular views overlooking the Douro river. The restaurant wasn't busy at all and it was neat to see they have a resident falcon to keep pests away (probably sea gulls?).

Overall, this hotel was a highlight of my trip and I've recommended it to friends for their trips to Porto as well. A true small luxury hotel!

This is probably the most spectacularly situated hotel that I have ever stayed in, and the quality of the service and facilities are also quite extraordinary. It is in the perfect position on the Douro river with incredible views of Porto and the Dom Luis I bridge. The hotel is a beautifully restored old port wine house which remains authentic and true to its roots. In front on the water are the old Rabelo boats, much as they have been for centuries. The service is stellar, the rooms flawless, and there were no facilities that were lacking. There is an indoor pool and spa, with sauna too. The rooftop bar has some of the best views in Porto/Vila Nova de Gaia (and that’s a tough ask because Porto is hilly)! We also enjoyed the food - I had the octopus tapas dish which was amazing, and the Tiramisu and lemon tart were also special. This was an experience of a lifetime. If we ever visit Porto again, we will not think twice about where to stay.

I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the outstanding experience we had at The Rebello during our stay in Porto. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations, making for a truly memorable visit.

The service was impeccable—every staff member we interacted with was warm, professional, and eager to ensure our comfort. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality made a lasting impression.

The accommodations were beautifully designed, blending modern elegance with a welcoming, cozy atmosphere. The room was not only spacious and well-appointed but also offered breathtaking views, making it a perfect retreat after a day of exploring Porto.

We also thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience, with delicious cuisine that highlighted the region’s flavors. The quality of the food, the ambiance, and the attentive service made each meal special.

Additionally, the location was perfect—offering a peaceful riverside setting while still being conveniently close to the heart of Porto. The ability to enjoy stunning views and easy access to the city’s attractions was a huge plus.

Overall, The Rebello provided an unforgettable stay, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others. Thank you for creating such a wonderful experience—we look forward to returning in the future!

We absolutely loved our stay at The Rebello. We ended up getting upgraded into an incredible waterfront room. It's a very chic and nice hotel that also keeps the feel of the original buildings.

A few of the best touches of the hotel for us started pre-check in. They sent me a PDF guide to Porto of recommended restaurants/bars/stores/museums/sites along with a map and some key Portuguese words that would be helpful to us. It was so helpful! Bottled water was unlimited in the rooms and always available if we needed more, and they left little shower bombs in our room to use at the end of a long day of exploring to unwind.

Bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was very, very clean. The continental breakfast had a lot of options down at the restaurant, Pots and Pans, too.

It's a bit of a walk to the other side of Porto, but the hotel is worth the extra steps you may get in the day as a result!

We (family of 4) stayed for 3 nights in the 2 bedroom suite. From the time that we stepped in, it was a luxurious experience. Check in was super smooth & before being shown the room, the staff walked us through the facility & explained some key points. The 2 bedroom suite was spacious, well maintained, and each room had a balcony with sit out. The amenities inside the room were top notch with the living room fitted with a retro Marshall bluetooth speaker. The kitchen area was well equipped & the bar was well stocked.
We chose to have our buffet breakfast on the rooftop bar, that was a nice way to begin the day with some stunning views of the river & Luis Bridge. Breakfast was tasty & with adequate choice. Had dinner twice in the roof top bar & enjoyed the drinks, food & the views. Also used the Spa for massage treatments. All of the hotel's staff are very well trained & professional. The staff was helpful in sharing local travel tips & also arranged a rent car. The hotel is within walking distance of all the main Wine Cellars in the Villa Nova De Gaia area. Will be back again next year!

I've stayed in several hotels all over the world and The Rebello was without a doubt one of the best hotels. Our room had a stunning view of the D. Luís Bridge, it was spacious and very comfortable and had facilities that I value a lot, such as an iron and ironing board so that some clothes always get wrinkles from the suitcase, a hairdryer, all the hygiene products from shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body cream, they even have a baby bath, bathrobe, slippers... my husband had his birthday, they put a cake in the room and they suggested I send them a photo that they framed to personalize it. cake and happy birthday sign. Exchange messages via WhatsApp.
The friendliness and availability also marked our stay. A big thank you to all the staff, especially Mr. Miguel Chaves who made our stay memorable.

Sublime hotel in Vila Nova de Gaia. Sober and refined decoration, spacious and magnificent 2 bedroom suite. We were lucky enough to have 2 large windows with fantastic views.
Ultra comfortable bedding, soft, quality towels and bathrobes, considerate, attentive service, discreet but without ostentation.
Very pleasant spa and roof top offering a splendid view of Porto.
The breakfast is fabulous: choice and quality with egg or pancake recipes on request.
Hotel very well located, quiet but with easy access to old Porto (20 min walk, less than 10 min from the cable car).

It seems to me that the hotel is quite new, I hope they manage to maintain this level of service and quality. Exceptional value for money.
Special mention to the very attentive staff and the very conscientious housekeepers.

We started our stay in Portugal with Porto and this hotel and the rest of the stay, even in very nice hotels, seemed bland to us after this experience. Unanimous opinion from all members of the family!

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.

We changed our hotel last minute to be closer to the Pon de Luis bridge and we're so elated we did. The service and the kind hospitality of the staff truly stands out from all other hotels. We traveled with our 9mo daughter and I dont know if she was happier to see them every morning of if they were. They provided a beautiful crib with linen, bath towel, and portable bath tub with a changing table! The Suite we booked was so spacious, there was no concern for her to crawl around everywhere! Beautiful kitchenette which helped with preparing her daily bottles and came equipped with beverages in the fridge that were on the house! Turn down service was simply lovely including fresh water, tea, and bath bombs to wind down. They welcomed us with a gorgeous fruit plate and a few days later, pasteis del nata which we loved starting our breakfast with daily. Huge shout out to Kayla, AyshNur, and all the other lovely staff who wholeheartedly welcomed us to breakfast daily. Our daughter always looked forward to seeing them and they spent so much time playing with her! Oh right, there's a wonderful 'Little Rebels Club' equipped with tons of toys for all ages and a nap room. Honestly, we could not have picked a better place to stay during our beloved trip to sweet Porto. We will visit you all again!

1) Great location, we were there in busy August and streets and walkways on the north side of the river were so crowded felt like you were in the process of getting out of a concert. The Rebello's location is perfect. Still walkable to the highlights, but on the quieter side of the river with a fantastic view. 2) Service was excellent, friendly, youthful, excellent English. We were traveling with two surfboards and they took care to unload and store them. 3) Rooms were beautiful, everything is very new. Over the top gift basket of local delicacies. 4) Wonderful view from the rooftop restaurant/bar. Would definitely go again.

This hotel is fantastic- one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. The location, across from Porto allows for a quieter, less crazy stay, but with unforgettable views of the Douro River and Porto. We were lucky to get a suite with a double sized balcony overlooking the river and Porto. We stayed 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed just sitting on our balcony , with a blanket and enjoying the view… with a bottle of wine, of course. The rooftop bar is excellent with limited menu that was all good food. Breakfast daily in Pots and Pans was delicious- we did not eat dinner there. Easy to get a Bolt or Uber for 5-6 Euro to get across the bridge into Porto. There are MANY port wine tasting rooms on the Gaia side that are walkable. We went on to Lisbon and the Algarve- but this hotel was a highlight. Staff excellent. We did not use the spa. We found Rebello in a NY Times travel article which gave accurate review. Stay here.

Hi how long is the walk to Porto centre and are there many bars and restaurants locally? Thank you
Answer from David J
2 contributions
Hi, we are fit (ish) and walk often. It took us about 20 minutes to get to the bridge - could be done in 15 mins but crowds and activities meant we took our time. Crossing the bridge is again a crowd management activity as much as a walk - took only 5 minutes to cross. You are then on the main river-front tourist strip, which we tended to avoid. We either walked up the 200+ steep steps to get to Porto center or through the river-front throng and then up towards 'town', which offered less steps but was still a 'climb'. Depends exactly where you want to go. But about 40 minutes walk is a good planning number - certainly not more than that. If walking is not your thing, we found the various ride shares and taxis to be affordable and reliable. The main strip on the Gaia side of the river from Rebello to the bridge has lots of bar and eating options - perhaps as much as the opposite bank of the river? Again, it is touristy but fun nonetheless.
