The hotel is a beautiful private residence (palace-type) built in the 1750s where four rooms have been converted to cater for travelers. The rooms and common spaces are nicely decorated with original furniture and art, generating a very cosy and antique atmosphere. The host, Pepe, still lives on the upper floor and is very kind and forthcoming on all matters. Breakfast was rich and served in a marvellous former ball room. The bathroom was spacey with an excellent shower. Good value and highly recommended. Desired improvement: wi-fi in the rooms.

I went with my husband did a friend and we stayed there during Easter this year. I absolutely love the place. This is only for lovers of vintage. The owner marry us feel so welcome. Provides free breakfast in marvellous decorated room , the owner made us fresh juice and a lovely spread of fresh fruits, cakes , ham and tostas with tomatoes and olive oil. My husband was not feeling well and I brought him food into the room. Maybe the beds require a better mattress, the WiFi does not reach the Rooms but, You can go UK the main salon which is lovely decorated and had its own Chapel ! To be honest I loved the place. Free parking nearby.

My husband and I visited with another couple for three nights. The hotel is actually a converted private residence that has been in the host’s family for 300 years. It has many original furnishings & personal touches such as a display of framed fans that belonged to the host (Pepe’s) Grandmother. The bedrooms are former sitting rooms, so they are large & elegant, but updated with private bathrooms & extra outlets. Pepe is very concerned about his guests’ comfort; for instance we were sitting in the courtyard drinking s bottle of wine using water glasses which is all we had, & he came by with wine glasses. Nice breakfast with a selection of fresh fruit, breads, local smoked meats, & cheeses. Reasonably priced & nicely-located in the city with nearby offsite parking.

I feel this place is more of a museum than a hotel. First I looked at two old typewriters on the table in the office. It was Remington and Olivetti. And several classic firearms on a wall amazed me. Home chapel is fulled with reminders of his family, for example an altar and a prayer book, old photos, wedding gift, beautiful goods and so on. Perhaps almost visitors will imagine a most enjoyable past day. I saw some interesting books, Don Quijote de la Mancha, Agatha Christie on the table and old illustrated encyclopedia near an altar. Breakfast room has artistic Abanicos and Rococo fine arts on the wall. There are some old photos of a family on a table by the opposite wall. I was attracted by two little girls (a girl in the good old days and a girl in these days) each photographed for First Communion. They appear wearing same dress of an ancestor. At that time I thought about a heritage from a past. It seems like a warm and loving message. When we checked in, Pepe recommended the must-see places. Sinagoga del Agua, Centro de Interpretacion Andrés de Vandelvira and every restaurants on Calle Real. We visited the two Museums and took a meal in an antique-looking restaurant. (What an outstanding taste!) I watched the exhibitions in each Museum and realized that very important thing is to ask for the something which I don’t know. I think now that I rather learned something as a student in Museo Ordóñez Sandoval than stay as a tourist. I feel a bit like that. Thank you! We had many unforgettable experiences. Last! A room in the hotel where we stayed was very comfortable.

We left the Ordóñez Sandoval hotel with mixed feelings. 1. Welcome Three bell rings were not enough to make the owner come despite the fact that I had specified our arrival time by e-mail the day before, 16:00. We waited before the front gate, then I went away to move the car that was blocking the street, then I came back to ring the bell again. Finally the house master appeared, introduced us into his small office... just in order to turn his back for an endless time - the fault, evidently, to the photocopy/printing machine that took our identities. We were two, so it happened twice. What a warm welcome, I say! To go to the rooms, one crosses the severe and austere central patio. In his review, one of the guests said he didn't see any chairs in the patio. Wrong, there are indeed some chairs: it is the smokers' corner. But if you don't smoke, you don't want to sit there. The patio lacks warmth, color, it's not cosy, "nicht heimelig", as the Germans say. – The front gate that gives access to it, the one I have just mentioned, is seized, stuck, it only can be opened by ...virile force - my partner has never managed to open it. In short, the entrance is just like the welcome. 2. The rooms My partner's room was beautiful, large, bright, original. She liked it. Mine was dark and musty – as one of the hosts describes it. My bed wasn't comfortable. More serious. As I entered my room I stepped on a small "stone"; I pushed it aside without attaching any importance to it. But entering my room for the second time, my foot met another "stone". This time I checked, and here it is: it is the tiling of the floor which crumbles. Hitting a tile piece for the 3rd or 4th time, I put one into the jug basin on the dresser. In the bathroom. Wanting to wash my hands, I struggled in vain with the little plastic bags that lock up the soap: you can't open them with your fingers nor with your teeth (smokers open them with the flame of their lighter). 3. Breakfast Breakfast is a disappointing buffet to say the least. When, on the second morning, you are in front of the same line of Danone yoghurts, the same arrangement of delicatessen and sweating slices of cheese, you think that the buffet in a small B&B is an aberration and you don't remember having ever seen one. Conclusion Of course, the Ordóñez Sandoval house is a beautiful house in the heart of Úbeda, the city we love so much. But it houses a B&B whose score of 9.5 seems a joke, a very strange one.

My answer: 1. Booking.com. Guest Review Award in 2016 and 2017 2. Tripadvisor: Quality certificate in 2016 and 2017. 3. Google. 4.7 out of 5. For your information, these awards have been obtained by the Hotel Ordoñez Sandoval thanks to the reviews of all the satisfied clients staying at my hotel. To finish and not lose my time anymore, I want to say that I only accept the negative reviews of clients who follow basic rules of coexistence such as not walking barefoot through hotel facilities or going in a swimsuit in common areas or making noise at early hours in the morning or almost shouting on the phone ...........
