If you love getting up at 6:45am to bag your sunbed and umbrella for the day, then this is the hotel for you!!
The Hotel Cala d'Or is situated right beside a beautiful little cove and is within easy walking distance of the shops, restaurants and cafes in the town centre. What's not to like?
My wife and I have been coming here for many years but for the first time we were frustrated by simple things that should have been fixed.
The sunbed problem has been going on for years and, although additional space has been created, there are simply too few beds to cater for all guests. What doesn't help matters is that some guests think nothing of booking a bed early in the morning and then turn up hours later. Why does the hotel not have someone there to prevent this from happening?
Another observation. Salt and pepper dispensers are not provided at each table so you have to go to either of 2 places to find them. You then find that there's no salt in the majority of them. Avoid client frustration and regularly check and replace as necessary.
Toiletries used to be provided in your room. Now you get 2 small bars of soap and a liquid soap dispenser in the shower. One of our bars of soap was eventually replaced after 13 days when it became so thin you could se through it!
I should also comment that the toilet rolls provided in the room were the narrowest I have ever encountered in all my years of worldwide travel.
During the latter part of our holiday, a member of staff started come round the pool area with either some melon on a skewer or cold towels. The only problem with that was that there were insufficient to go around! Half of the guests were delighted and the other half were furious they missed out.
The hotel needs to appoint someone to raise the levels of all round service on offer to clients or risk the hotel failing to hold on to its 4 star rating.

We booked a sea view room, upon arrival we were informed that we had been ‘upgraded’. So once we were shown to our room it was a little underwhelming, the rooms although quite modern are fairly basic and the sea view, literally turned out to be a view of the sea through a bunch of trees, so once again it was also underwhelming. The staff were amazing from the off, nothing was too much hassle and any request was carried out without fuss. The hotel pool could’ve been cleaner and the beach is very small and gets extremely busy. However, we had some amazing evening swims when it started to quieten down. The hotels location was ideal, with a short walk to the hustle and bustle of Cala D’or and the marina was around a ten minute walk away. Parking is located over the street and a safety deposit box will set you back €2 a day.

The hotel has unmatchable location, but possibly due to Covid the outside cafe and restaurants seem to be understaffed, we waited two hours for bar food and were still made to pay!. The hotel rooms and bathrooms are tired and 3.5* at best, showing its age in places. Can be noisy at night between rooms...

A sea view room with half board was nearly €300 (more than most 5 star hotels in Mallorca charge), so I had high expectations. I chose this hotel in the Cala d’Or area because it was family run and promised good food.

No more than a handful of rooms were occupied (obvious because most rooms had the balcony doors left open for rooms to air). Nevertheless the first room offered had only a second line sea view, with views of the road behind the hotel from one window and of the sea in the distance with other buildings in between from the other window. The second room offered was better, but as with all 3rd floor sea view rooms the balconies are narrow with views obstructed by the concrete walls when sitting. Better rooms with large balconies on the floor below were available but the front desk claimed the hotel was busy - which was patently untrue. Note all “sea view” rooms only offer a side sea view because of the alignment of the hotel along the cove.

The room was basic in the extreme - there was no coffee maker or kettle, no drinking water, no glasses or cups for your own drinks, no bathroom amenities other than a bar of soap and a liquid gel dispenser in the shower. The towels were ancient & thin.

The main restaurant was closed for dinner, so the meal was served in the beach bar. The meal was disappointing. Service was basic - cheap paper napkins, no bread offered, loud music playing. A dried fish salad starter was bland and uninteresting, a main of sole meunière (€5 extra) was served with a very plain undressed salad and plain boiled potatoes. The whole experience fell a long way short of even the most basic expectations for a hotel which claims good food. Breakfast the next morning was no better. Other hotels had tried very hard to offer a good breakfast choice, with assorted meat and cheese platters, and baskets of bread and cakes provided as standard to every table with hot food to order. Here every single item had to be ordered individually. The orange juice was the cheapest you could imagine, and summed up the food experience at Hotel Cala d’Or. I had far better food and service at a 3 star hotel at less than half the price.

I’m struggling to find much positive to say about this hotel. It is in a good location on one of the more attractive coves in Cala d’Or, with direct beach access.

Unable to face another uninspiring dinner, I checked out after 1 night and went elsewhere.

We wanted a two night stay at the hotel but had to book through a booking site as I could only book for a minimum of 3 nights on the hotels’ website. I booked a bed & breakfast package through hotels.com and had a confirmation stating that breakfast was Included within the rate. Upon checking in at the hotel, I was advised that it would be an additional €15 per person per day for breakfast. Having shown them my confirmation with breakfast included they still wouldn’t grant the breakfasts. I asked for a copy of the hotel tariff showing the cost of breakfast separately so that I could make a claim back to Hotels.com, but Hotel Cala D’or stated that they don’t do a room only price, all rooms included by breakfast. The price I actually paid through hotels.com worked out at exactly the same price as I would have paid for a B&B room directly at the hotel if I could have booked two nights with them directly. The Manager (Jose Luis Montano) was very unhelpful and unwilling to compromise in any way, with very much a “take it or leave it” attitude which I found disappointing.
All in all not a great start to our few days, especially as we have stayed at this hotel several times previously, it’s certainly put a dampener on it.

Response from Rafel Nicolau, Director General at Hotel Cala d'Or
Responded Oct 12, 2021
Dear Madame/Sir, We are sorry to contradict you but your comment is unfounded. As it was shown to you at reception in order for you to check your reservation (Hotelbeds reservation number 1-4852244) it is "room only" which means that it is WITHOUT breakfast. I think it is unfair that you take your frustration out on us because you made a mistake when booking your reservation or that Hotels.com has confused you. I honestly believe that the online reputation pages are not for this purpose, you do not provide any useful comments about the hotel, you simply let go your anger for something that is foreign to us. Regards,

We were extremely disappointed with our stay in this hotel, we arrived and we’re given very brief information at reception and we were then shown to a box room with no space at all . We had booked half board and cancelled it on the first night because the food was really awful and we left the restaurant hungry and had to go up town to eat , breakfast was not much better. The hotel in general could have been much cleaner especially the pool area , this hotel was very over priced for the standards it offered , the best thing about this hotel is location, we would not return

Loved this hotel, it was clean and airy, with a relaxing ambience. It’s position is amazing, in its own cove, with a sea view. The beach isn’t huge, we stayed first week in October so it wasn’t packed, but imagine it would be in the main season. There is a small grassy area under trees, behind the beach, so some shade is available. Lovely pool at the hotel. Room very comfortable and adequate, quite spacious with small fridge, took our own travel kettle! We were staying bed and breakfast, but ate dinner at the restaurant twice, one a la Carte meal and one a set menu, both very tasty. Views of the sea from the restaurant, lovely for breakfast in the sunshine sitting at the outside area. Staff were very helpful. We booked a massage treatment whilst there which was very professional and pleasant. A stroll into the town area, where there are plenty of options to eat out and a short walk to the beautiful port area with more eateries. A thoroughly relaxing holiday.

We have stayed in Cala d'or for over 20 years and at this hotel many many times, although not for the last 4 years. We tend to stay here for a few days before heading west into the mountains. Each time we have had a great room which is clean, great bathrooms and well equipped and the pool is much better now its surround is paved and the position is fabulous right next to the beach so you have the best of both worlds. The breakfast was very good with lots of choice both hot and cold, plenty of fruit and decent juice / coffee. Restaurant and pool bar staff are attentive and friendly.
I would normally give it five stars but we had a slight issue, we decided to stay for an extra day as the hire car companies are taking the mickey with their prices at the moment, so had to move rooms - which is no issue. However the room we went to had no hot water and the TV remote was furry with battery corrosion and didn't work anyway, no biggie for the TV but having to move to a room upstairs to get a shower was a pain - especially as im less mobile with a broken ankle. There was a wonderful lady that helped us and she felt terrible, having to lug our stuff around, again still no reason for losing a blob in my opinion.

The last green blob gets deleted due to the woman on reception who was obviously having a bad day when we reported the problem and could not care less.

Will be there in a few weeks, but may look at different hotel options.

Having visited Cala D'or on many occasion we had always admired the situation of this hotel and decided to give it a try. We spent a week in room 301 recently. We did not pay extra to get a sea view which was fine - as it was a big jump onto an already expensive rate and instead opted for Garden View. Really disappointed that the balcony was sooo small our knees were nearly at our ears and if sitting the wall was so high there was no view at all. If you looked over wall rooms below and to our left had huge balconies with sunbeds. Felt a bit like the poor relations.
Breakfast - Cold options were absolutely fine. Hot options not so much. The plates were stone cold so the look warm food was so cold by the time you were back to your table. Also no choice of eggs except one day when we were offered Omelette (cold) - every other day was fried. I feel for a 4 star hotel the options just weren't good enough.
This being said the hotel is very clean, has a brilliant position and reception staff went above and beyond to help with anything.
We have stayed at several hotels in Cala D'or and probably wouldn't choose to come back here.

My wife and I have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Hotel Cala D’or. This is the first trip advisor review that we have ever written but we felt compelled to do so.
On arrival we were shown to our room which had a lovely view of the hotel pool and the Cala D’or bay. The room was small and dated and the bathroom was extremely cramped also there was no facilities to make a tea or coffee . After unpacking we tried to put our belongings in the safe but realised that it required a card to activate it so we went to reception.
At the reception we were told that we would have to pay €2.00 a day to hire a kettle and €2.00 a day for the safe. We were totally surprised with the reply about the safe and we pointed out that it not only protected us against theft but it also protected the hotel, but they wouldn’t wave this cost which we thought it very mean and an extra way of making money out of their guests.
The dining room was very clean with a fabulous view of the sea. The breakfasts were very good with plenty of choice, but the evening meals were dreadful.
We only had water with our evening meal because we were never in the restaurant long enough to order a bottle of wine. One evening we went to the dessert buffet only to find that our table had been cleared on our return. The waitress apologised and we asked them to replace the bottle of water, which they did but proceeded to charge us again for it. The restaurant was never busy and the fist night of our holiday we were the only two people in there — perhaps tells you something.
The pool deck was very nice with a good terrace snack bar.
When checking out we were given our bill and on it we charged for things out of the mini bar we hadn’t had and again for the bottle of water!
My wife and I are fortunate enough to have several holidays a year, but overall we felt that our visit to the Hotel Cala D’or was not value for the money we paid, and needless to say we will not be returning.

It’s less than 5 minutes to get to the main centre where there are lots of restaurants.I haven’t eaten in the hotel restaurant but I’ve heard it’s very good and there’s a place just outside the hotel on the beach for lunch.I think the hotel is in an excellent location and nice and quiet. Hope this helps.

It is definitely adults only now, however I would email the hotel to get a view on a 14 year old. I’ve stayed at Hotel Cala D’Or on many occasions and it really is excellent. Superb position on a small beach, it’s quiet with shades of old Majorca. Pool is really nice, great Beach bar and pleasant restaurant. If age is allowed, it’s worth it.

Hi as answered by some but just to add smart casual is the only dress code so very relaxed but no vest tops or shorts. The menu is A la carte and Is set but there are choices. This was the case just last month (May 19). The hotel has now introduced a new meal plan option so you can have half board for part of your stay (3 days). The Gym is decently stocked is small but adequate for holiday use. The hotel are very good at answering questions in English so drop them an email. I cannot remember the sun bed cost on the beach but as this is run by the hotel reception can provide the answer. The beach is a public beach and it seems to be under used so plenty of room. Email Evonne she is quite happy to answer questions and is a very helpful lady. I hope this posting helps.
