Nestled close to the beach, Insotel Cala Mandia Resort & Spa is lauded for its prime location, although some guests find the beach area to be overly congested. The resort's cleanliness and extensive amenities, including diverse pools and family-friendly entertainment, receive positive remarks, though there are mentions of occasional housekeeping oversights and additional costs. While the atmosphere garners mixed reviews due to its bustling nature, the staff is consistently recognized for their amicable and accommodating service. However, guests have called out room maintenance and dampness alongside concerns about the resort's overall value, citing extra charges.

We had previously visited this hotel as a family. This time it was a short break treat for me and my daughter who just turned 18. We chose a swim up room in the adult only area in early October.

We arranged a taxi transfer which took around 50 minutes and cost 82 euros each was. Check in was quick. Use a QR code to add all your details including photo of passport for each person.

Our room number 1003 was clean and modern. The bed was huge and comfy. The swim up pool was cold as were all the other pools but this was October so completely as expected for this time of year. We had sun on pool area from around 10 until about 3.30pm when it disappeared behind the trees. The sun is quite low this time of year. The cleaner did a thorough job of cleaning the room each day leaving it smelling fresh.

We ate in the main restaurant and the food was varied each night. One night had the option of Mexican themed food. Always chips, rice, pasta and pizza available with a variety of meat and vegetable 2] dishes. Delicious deserts, cut fruits as well as ice creams (similar to cornetto and feast). Breakfast offer a lovely full English with English style sausages. Variety of breads, cereals, fruit, pastries, smoothies, many varieties of alternative milks. There was a small section for adult only.

The adult only pool area was also being used by families during the daytime due to covid and to allow people plenty of space. The pool area was much quieter than the other areas though. The was an amazing selection of drinks available including some well known brands. The full drink menu could be downloaded using a QR code.

Hand sanitiser was everywhere. Outside the lift, inside the lift, all around the restaurants and bar areas. All staff wore masks all the time even outside.

The beach was a short walk down hill. The sea is quite rough so children would need watching. There was a lifeguard on duty during the daytime. We went down to watch the sunrise it was beautiful.

In all my years of holidaying abroad this is the only hotel I have ever visited twice.

Thank you to all the staff who work so hard.

We've just returned from the hotel, staying at the end of September as a family of 4.

First impressions when walking in to the reception were pretty good. The reception area is reasonably pretty and the reception staff were very accommodating during check in, ensuring that the facilities we needed for my 1 year old were already in the room (phoning to check with housekeeping to confirm this)

The room itself (we stayed in block A) was fine. The bathroom was a good sign and looked reasonably new. The shower was actually very powerful which is always a nice thing I think. Us adults had their own room, with the "lounge" acting as the kids bedroom. Décor was a little bit dated but clean and did the job for us.

The only complaint I have with the room is the level of noise. We were often woken up by someone in the rooms above or next to us doing anything really. Footsteps above were very loud, we could hear noises from rooms pretty far away from us. We also had extremely tap happy neighbors or were near some sort of plumbing as we heard associated noises extremely often. This is a small complaint on my part, as I didn't mention it to the staff and I'm pretty sure they would have offered another room had I done so, but frankly we were unpacked at this point and the thought of moving rooms was worse than dealing with a little noise.

The food was actually pretty good and exceeded my expectations. The menu changed each night and always had some sort of "special" section (Mexican on one night, Sushi another etc). As far as all inclusive buffets go, this seemed pretty good to me. I was disappointed that we were unable to book a table at the 50s diner, despite checking as soon as we checked in and it seeming half empty whenever we walked past, but I certainly enjoyed the food I did have. Some maple syrup for the breakfast pancakes wouldn't go a miss though!

Lastly, the facilities at the hotel are excellent for families. If you have small children you will not be able to get them out of the excellent pools and slides. The ground can be a little slippery but ultimately it's up to you as parents to ensure your kids are acting sensibly so they don't fall over! I can't speak highly enough of the facilities here, they're excellent.

All in all, a very good hotel for any families that you and your kids will no doubt enjoy.

Leisure: I would go back there because the leisure option is very good and the swimming pools are very well taken care of, you see staff testing the water quality, checking playground toys. The kids club is also nice and the staff is always very friendly, specially with kids.

Food: The food was good, we ate some very good dishes but missed more of Spanish food. However, desserts were poor. It was just cream and very artificial puddings made of powder. We were in Spain and not even had fresh orange juice.

Bedroom amenities: They refurbished the bathroom but the bedroom looked very old, with a piece of the wall missing, the paint of the terrace was also not good anymore. We didn't have proper duvets, just blankets and the kids blankets were so old that there were holes on them. There was no information in the bedroom. Not even a welcome card saying you had to access everything through a qr code. There was no qr code at the bedroom just at the reception.

Cleaning: Our bedroom wasn't cleaned properly when we arrived. There was dust around the kids beds and a hair in the bathroom. We complained and they came and cleaned it straight away, but this shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Toiletries were just two cheap soap bars to wash your hands and one shower/shampoo gel. I've stayed in 3 star hotels that offered me more.

Smoking: There was an ashtray in our terrace and we asked why, as we hate cigarettes and they said that it was allowed to smoke in the terrace. It is not what is written in their website. Luckily, none of our neighbors smoked otherwise it would have been a hell for us as our bedroom would definitely end up with cigarettes smell.

It is a resort where families go and there is not even one sink in the whole hotel where kids up to 7 years of age can wash their hands by themselves. They cannot reach the soap or the sink, to be honest. Adding one step in every bathroom would already be helpful. It was Easter and there was nothing special for the kids, not even one tiny chocolate egg or a bit of Easter decoration. Just nothing.
Summarizing: it is a nice resort to have fun: enjoy swimming pools, kids facilities, play tennis, etc but it lacks an eye for the detail. However, it is fair to say that if you complain, they act very fast and try to solve any problem you have. The staff is extremely friendly.

We arrived on Tuesday, and have a week left. We are sat waiting to see if there is an alternative hotel for us to move to.

The hotel is poorly maintained and unsafe.
The room we were offered was absolutely unacceptable, we paid €300 for an upgrade- which was of no improvement to the first room, but we do have a pool view. The pool is dirty with scum lines around the edges, the pool attendant is aggressive and rude.

The food and drinks are substandard and the entertainment isn’t great either.
There is not enough seats anywhere to accommodate for people around the pool, people watching the entertainment, or people dining.
The drinks come in plastic kids cups, whatever it is you are drinking.

No water is supplied in room.
We paid €80 to use some towels and €20 to use the safe.

Everyone you speak to wants to leave, most are happy to pay more for a new hotel- despite being over charged for this one already!

Please don’t waste your money.

We had a wonderful holiday here. The shared facilities, pools, water park were absolutely awesome. The food was good with lots of choice and we really enjoyed being able to book one of the restaurants for a night. I only have two gripes, our room was supposedly a ‘suite’ at the cost of a £600 upgrade. There was nothing suite about it, it was a very basic apartment and I at first thought the hotel had made a mistake and forgotten to upgrade us. It was only after talking to staff who made it clear this was as good as it gets, and other guests who were incredibly disappointed with grimey, I’ll equipped rooms that we realised that this very basic but clean room was the upgrade. The management need to go and look around a few actual suites before calling anything here a suite. But for us it was clean and decent, just a shame we had to pay £600 extra just to get this. And also a shame that in a hotel that was so 4-5 star, the rooms made it feel 3 star. The other gripe was we tried to book the American diner restaurant within an hour of checking in and it was full all week - perhaps a lunch sitting might make people feel more included. So two very small gripes, my advice would be definitely stay in this hotel, it’s really very good for a family holiday, but upgrade if you can and book the restaurant the second you walk through the hotel doors. We had a lovely week here.

Dear Faye, Thank you very much for your review. We really appreciate that you took the time for writing it. The upgrade you were talking about maybe it was to get a suite in the Main Building. This is something regarding TUI, they have different prices depending on where the rooms are located. We hope we can welcome you again soon! Best regards. :)

I don’t usually write reviews but I think this hotel sells you what’s it’s not and that is not a 5* like it says on the TUI site, I’d say more of a 3*. The hotel is ok I’d just say basic rooms are clean and liveable but that’s it. Iv come here with my 2 & 7 year old and they have enjoyed it but the odd things aren't brill. For starters every kid wants an inflatable when you come away which your allowed to buy but then not allowed in big pools!! Stupid really because you can clog up the baby pools with them but can’t use them in main pool. The kids disco is poor we went in once for 15 mins and my kids wanted to go. Water slides good my kids enjoyed them but getting a bed is near impossible. My main thing for this hotel which would put me off coming back is the food! It’s pretty basic and not much choice (been here 10 nights and ate out 5) the main thing which the hotel needs to address is covering the food up!!! Everything has flies on them and usually hotels have food covered but no not here! Even the snack bars (which again the food poor) is all covered in flies and not to mention they make sandwiches and wraps but they don’t cover them over but then the chefs probably wondering why people haven't took them to eat! So when you come to get one they are rock hard and have curled up! Again if the hotel is reading this it’s not rocket science to cover sandwiches up to keep them not like sand paper. The pools need some TLC most of tiles coming off and loads cracks and what looks like black mould or just layers of dirt and don’t get me started with the lifts. If your on one side of the hotel we have to wait 15 mins on average for a lift and have no option with having a pushchair. Overall I’d give this hotel a 5/10 mainly because the food and I don’t think I would return.

Dear Rebecca, Thank you very much for taking your time and writing this review. Allow us to clarify that we are not a 5* hotel. On the TUI site it says that we are a 5T (TUI rating) and that our official rating is 4*. And that is it, official and given by authorities. The reason why you cannot use inflatables at the pool is safety. If someone is hidden under one of those, the consequences can be bad. But you can buy them and use them on the beach. Last but not least, hotel has been audited many times this summer about health and safety, food, etc and it was positively way over :) Best regards.

Let me start with the positives, the hotel is lovely, clean, and family-friendly and the majority of staff work crazy hours and still maintain a smile.

We stayed in Site A and the few issues we encountered were:
1) after spending three days in the hotel we were approached by the lifeguard who asked us for 20 euros to use the hotel sun bed. I was shocked since we’ve stayed in all-inclusive across Europe and this was the first time we were asked for money. We are a family of 5 and to reserve 5 sun beds was difficult so one large bed was better for us. We refused as did everyone around us, since we paid 6k to be there I wasn’t going to start paying €20 a day across a 2week holiday.
We also noticed this is all the lifeguards do walk around trying to request money from guests, very rarely looking at the pool with the many children in it. So if you go please keep an eye on your kids without relying on the lifeguards.

2) the hotel maids completely ignore the do not disturb sign, they would come in every day and just clean the room take the sign off and leave it back in the room. Which was frustrating when we hadn't prepped what we wanted to be cleaned or sometimes appropriately dressed. We were on the ground floor and often found the maintenance team leaving their tools and ladders outside our door which made it difficult to get our double pram out.

3) on the last day the hotel would not help us carry our luggage when we asked the main reception the day before we were just told no one was available, we had some help taking our bags down the hill when we arrived at 2 am. But at departure at 6:30 am they said they couldn’t help so I had to carry two sleeping children plus bags up a hill by ourselves whilst my wife had the other luggage and child.

4) I can see lots of people liked the food, for us the variety was not as good and we were hoping for much more authentic dishes. The majority of what was served was quite bland or overcooked in comparison to the amazing Spanish cuisine that we have had elsewhere. On one occasion my wife found fly eggs on her lettuce I took this to the head chef who quickly took the plate away and said nothing to me, I waited around but when he came back he just carried on, as usual, I didn't even see him check the rest of the salad that was still being served to guests. We didn't have the lettuce again during our stay.

My advice to the hotel is, to stop charging for sun beds in an all-inclusive, ask your maids and maintenance staff to appreciate the guests' privacy a little more and maybe get a new head chef. At the same time, I would like to thank all the waiters and bartenders for all the their hard work.

Dear guest, Thank you very much for taking your time and writing this review. We appreciate your advice, and we take every comment into consideration for further improvements. We deeply regret the incident that happened with the lettuce at the buffet, and we are sorry if our chef procedure was not up to the standard. Not only that, but we will share this information with all our kitchen staff to avoid this from happening again. Also, we are sorry to read that, when you left, there was nobody to help you with your luggage. Apart from this, let us tell you a few things. All-inclusive refers itself to food and drink, but not to big balinese beds in the pool, spa, or anything else apart from food and beverage. Secondly, of course lifeguards are doing their job, but keeping an eye on the children is the parent's responsibility. Warm regards

We have just returned from a 10 day break. We booked it with my parents. They got out in the main hotel with a beautiful room and views of the pool, we were out in area B in a damp smelly very outdated apartment. We got switched after complaining to another apartment in area B the following which was equally as run down and outdated but didn’t stink of damp like the other room. We paid the same price as my parents per person so was a little miffed why the rooms could be so different in decor and quality for same price! My parents also got to use the adult only section, our wrist bands didn’t allow us as we had children?!? Our plan was to use the kids club and get some adult only time for an hour or so a day.. this was what swayed us to the hotel. Again, doesn’t make sense?? Why would you put children in kids club to then go the pool that is swarming with other children? The pools are busy, I’ve never had to put towels down early but every morning from 6.30am people were out there reserving beds. It really made the experience stressful knowing we wouldn’t get a sun bed unless we rushed out early to reserve one. I’ve stayed in other hotels were staff monitor this and remove towels to stop it happening they need to do this here!
There was plenty of food available all day throughout hotel, it isn’t always hot and because of the demand be careful they are rushing to cook it. We had raw chicken served to us 4 times throughout our stay and I spoke to some other guests who had the same and raw fish. The food is all a bit the same. The breakfasts were my favourite. The restaurant staff were all so friendly and lovely.
The water slides were fabulous and our teenage son and our toddler twins loved it.
My parents got towels as adult only but we were asked to pay 20 euros deposit each for a family of five we didn’t have a spare 100 euros. I think this is so overpriced and didn’t bother.
The evening entertainment is brilliant my 3 year old twins loved it, so did we!
The beach is stony and rocky when you walk in so pack sea shoes!
It’s a family resort I’ve never seen so many children, definitely do not go unless you are travelling with children.
Overall after 4 years without a holiday we enjoyed it but it isn’t 4* in my opinion.

Dear guest Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We appreciate every comment made as it helps us improve. We are saddened to hear your time here was not as expected, but please be assured we take all comments seriously and in to consideration. Furthermore, we only ask for a deposit for towels, which you get returned at the end, I am sorry if this was not communicated to you correctly, Our hotel policy now in high season is all towels can be removed from sun loungers which are not attended to after 45 minutes, once again I apologize you had issues while here with this. We are happy to hear our staff are friendly and helpful, in such a busy resort we work extremely hard to ensure our guests have the holiday they deserve. I hope one day we can welcome you again. We booked this holiday on the TUI rating 5T Platinum resort and paid £4700 for 2 adults and a “free child” Having previously stayed in Platinum hotels and 4T hotels I considered it to be a good choice and had high expectations. Having spent 2 week at the resort I have to be honest TUI have got this completely wrong 3T would be my honest score.

Room with garden view
Tired rooms, bathroom in need of a complete refurbishment, strangely you have a kitchen sink and microwave but not even a drinking glass is provided. It seems these would have been self catering at one time. Our garden view which looked very nice on the website had two large drain covers and several pot holes big enough to place your whole foot in. The 2 sunbeds were dirty and old. It also backed onto a main road.

Restaurants/ snack bars

2 main restaurants you queue to be seated 15/20 on an evening quicker at breakfast. The food is canteen quality it was difficult to put a decent meal together. I was surprised in a pandemic everyone uses the same utensils to help themselves. I would rate the food as poor also lots of flies, staff do there best to keep the area clean and tidy but there are just too many people for them to be able to make a difference

Pools
If you want a sun bed you have to be up early far more holiday makers than sun-beds. Also because it is so crowded no inflatables we’re allowed in the pool other than in the baby pools lifeguards we’re very strict on this. So every child arrives parents buy the inflatables and they sit at the pool side un used.

Drinks

Are served in small plastic cups from all but one bar, cocktails are not made mixed just syrup sweet pre prepared. They do serve premium spirt brands but in the small plastic cups only the bar on an evening used proper glasses but it was always empty as there is absolutely no atmosphere there.

Evening entertainment was in the flower bar based around a pool, the animation team were very friendly and did there best to entertain but the area was massively overcrowded not enough tables and chairs people searching everywhere for somewhere to sit. The entertainment was from 9.15pm to 10.15pm but to get a seat you needed to be there before 8pm.

I would say for what you pay for this hotel you could find much better elsewhere. We ended up hiring a car for 10 days and eating out as much as we could, not what you would expect to have to do at a Platinum resort.

Ok, so there are some plus points about the hotel…. The staff work tirelessly, especially in the buffets clearing plates and keeping it tidy and are friendly and helpful in the most part. Paco on the pool side bar was great and generous with the premium spirits - thank you!!

In addition to this the water park is great for kids under 10 (anything older and might be too small). There’s also some other activities for them to do, football, tennis and a small park. That’s as far as it goes….

So as far as scoring it 2, it would have got a 1 if we hadn’t pair so little to stay here, although I would quite happily pay more for better quality. TUI advertised this as 5 star Platinum. It’s 3 star plus at best in terms of the rooms and quality (some rooms 4 star which I’ll tough upon).

Firstly we were put in block A in an apartment next door to our friends family who moved out after the first night. Their walls and ceiling was covered in damp and mould and smelt horrific. They were moved to a better room but had no hot water. We were fine until we came back in the evening and the beds were sodden wet from the air conn, we were also subsequently moved even though they tried to blame it on the humidity and said I was wrong.

The buffets were massively over crowded, the pool likewise and getting a lounger meant getting up early otherwise you had no chance - sun bed wars!!

Loads of pool tiles round the pool are cracked and my son (7) and 2 of his friends of a similar age had cuts and sores on their feet from the bottom of the pool!! Me included.

Based on the price we paid I may have given this 3, but tui should not be knocking out these awful rooms and I know what families are paying for the same prices. Paying anything over 3500 for a family of 4 with 2 young kids feels over priced.

The hotel feels too crowded and oversold on the rooms to what the facilities can handle. You’d get much better value in Greece or other resorts we’ve stayed at.

The 2 local beaches are fantastic too but are nothing to do with the hotel.
