We are experienced warm weather walkers but have never done any winter walking in the snow. We had a wonderful week! The hotel was lovely and all the staff were very friendly. We were given good advice about local walks and enjoyed them all. Our only fear is that our first winter walking was so good that no future winter...

It is a sign of a really good hotel when you start to plan your next visit the moment the Postbus turns the corner to take you to the station! The location is spectacular, the village (with its range of vernacular architecture and decoration) remarkable, but it is the comfort and hospitality that you find at this hotel that makes...

The Hotel Meisser has to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The accommodation was of a very high standard, the food was excellent and this was all backed up by a very friendly and helpful team led by Benno and Maya. They were particular proactive in helping us successfully recover an item of lost property from...

Lovely, peaceful, family run hotel set in a pretty little mountain village. The welcome was warm and friendly and that set the atmosphere for the rest of the week. Our room had wonderful mountain views and was clean and comfortable with an excellent en suite bathroom. The food and service was very good indeed. Would thoroughly recommend Hotel Meisser as...

After a fantastic week at the Hotel Meisser we realised that our abiding memory was of the lack of noise high in the snow-clad mountains. Of course the exceptionally comfortable family-run hotel with fine food and friendly service won't be easily forgotten either, nor the enjoyable walks led by Benno who also gave advice on other activities in the area....

Guarda is a lovely village with fabulous views over the valley - under brilliant blue skies when we were there. Excellent breakfasts and nice dinners and comfortable rooms (we were in a suite over the road which even had a 'mini-kitchen').

This last weekend was my sixth stay at Hotel Meisser in Guarda. As usual, everything was wonderful. Our room was beautiful and comfortable. The food was very good. But in particular, the lovely people who own and work at the hotel have to be recognized. Benno and Maya are perfect hosts, and, in particular this time, Benno went well beyond...

Really comfortable hotel, with an excellent chef, and some of the most charming and friendly staff I've come across anywhere. Guarda is off the beaten track, and quiet and unspoilt. Spellbinding views across the valley, and you can walk into the mountains from the door. They lend you sledges and snowshoes if you want them. (Sledging is highly recommended, btw.)...

We had a magical week. A beautiful hotel set amongst beautiful scenery in a great location for exploring the region. We stayed half-board and the huge buffet breakfasts and four-course evening meals were superb. We spent the week walking (thanks to Benno for the excellent guided walks) and tobogganing (the hotel has lots of varied kit that you can borrow)....

Hotel Meisser is a gem located in the unspoilt village of Guarda. The hotel has been sympathetically modernised without loosing the charm of a family run hotel. Meals prepared using locally sourced ingredients added to the pleasure of staying here. We went for winter walking, the hotel is ideally situated to explore the Engerdin, with easy access to the railway...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Guarda, a cluster of very old intricately painted farmhouses with flowers at every window, nestles on a mountain shelf high above the Engadine Valley - one of the most picturesque hideaways in Switzerland. Happily, there is a gem of a hotel to match the perfection of the village. The Hotel Meisser is beautifully situated on a promontory overlooking the expanse of green valley below, with a terrace where guests can enjoy refreshments an fine food. The hotel, a typical Engadine farmhouse, dates back to the 17th century. Throughout the hotel there is an old-world ambiance achieved through the use of antique chests, pieces of old copper, oil paintings, and baskets of fresh flowers everywhere. The main house offers simple accommodation in rooms with shower or bath, and tree rooms afford memorable views an enjoy their own balconies. ... more   less
