We stayed for one night and the proprietor Tom is charming. His breakfasts are excellent. However, the hotel is very outdated and dingy and worst of all smelt of animals (wee?) as soon as you went in the front door. Luckily our room was on the top floor and the smell didn't go beyond the fire door. Our room was... More

Great breakfasts! Set me up for the whole day. The owner Tom who must be well into his seventies was one of the most helpful, friendly and interesting blokes I've ever met. Nothing seemed too much trouble even the very early starts to have my breakfast cooked. Had a great stay and Tom was more helpful than Google in regards... More

I have stayed quite a few times at Oaklands after an over night shift. Tom is a wonderful and kind person, nothing to small for him. The room I have stayed in has always been spotless and comfortable and the breakfast has been great , I highly recommend Oaklands for short or long stay

stayed here on Thursday evening on the 2nd June after watching a concert in the town centre. The host Tom was great and one of life's nice people, he couldn't do enough for you and was a pleasure to know. The room was basic but very clean and the breakfast in the morning was really good (and plenty of it)

We were greeted with a very friendly and warm welcome. The price was very good for the accommodation, and close to the town centre, £4 for a taxi. Room was fine and everything was very clean. The breakfast was defiantly the full monty as Tom would say, altogether a very pleasant stay.

We were not expecting this to be a modern or fashionable place to stay having lived in a similar type of house on Preston New Road many years ago and so were not surprised when we arrived and saw our top floor attic room. However the owner was very friendly, helpful and was doing a very good job under the... More

As three cyclists arriving late in the evening we were met with a friendly welcome by the owner, who could not do enough for us, from making sure our bikes were securely stowed, fresh milk in our room, to ensuring we had a "good breakfast" before setting off again. Tom you are a true star.

I needed a room quickly at a decent price near to King Georges Hall. The Owner Tom, did everything to help my very pleasant stay, including the simple things like having taxi numbers to hand - nothing I asked was too much trouble. Lovely breakfast - will stay again. Thank you! :)
