Super clean and cute. Great bedding. Nicely stocked with coffee and bread for toast. I stayed in the loft, which was darling, but the “5’ ceiling” is sloped, so it’s only 5’ at the peak. Good for kids and shorter people (I’m only 5’), but not for average-size adults. I would definitely recommend the hostel to others!

Fairly basic accommodations but good value in comparison to others in the area based on what I found online, would stay again. Our room on the third floor got fairly warm but was not too bad with the fan and a window open. If you are tall you will notice the sloped ceilings but not enough to worry about it, or at least not for me. Room was spartan but nice. Decent kitchen. "Serve yourself" (aka. make them yourself :)) pancakes are a nice option. Literally across the road from Split Rock Brewing which was neat. Bathroom was fairly busy in the evening/morning. I think there are 3 or 4 rooms using the second floor bathroom? The main floor bathroom is ostensibly dedicated to the main floor guests. Nice TV and living room but we didn't spend any time in it. Key pad check in.

Truly fantastic hostel. First time we stayed in a hostel with our 2 young children and it worked out well. Accessing the hostel was an independent experience with keypad entry. The instructions/house rules were e-mailed to you in a timely manner. We reserved the entire 4-bunk/family room with private bathroom. The bunk room & private bath were spacious. The bunks were very comfortable with soft linens. The 1st floor private bathroom was large and well stocked with towels. The kitchen was just outside the bunk/family room. It was great to use and spacious with a table for 4. All the DIY pancakes ingredients were available. Our children have food allergies & we relayed this to the hostel prior to booking our room. We were grateful that they asked other guests to refrain from cooking those items in the kitchen during our stay. We were always prepared to do a thorough cleaning of a shared kitchen space as a precaution. The shared living room on the first floor had a phone, TV, couch, chairs, bean bags seating, books, musical instruments to toy around with. We had no issue with hot water and we even did our laundry (by the kitchen) on site. The hostel had both a front & back door entrance with ample parking. If you had any immediate concerns, the next-door Artisan Market offered guest services during regular business hours. The folks at the Artisan Market were exceptionally friendly & helpful! We met a lot of great travelers during our 2-night stay. The hostel was very clean and in a great location. We would highly recommend!

A very nice place to stay but if you expect to experience the hospitality of Newfoundland forget it as you never meet the host or anyone working for the hostel. We stayed there for 2 days and we're never able to get a hot shower in the morning. There was only enough hot water for a max of 2 showers. I wrote to the hostel about the issue on the first day. They say they would send someone to check. The same issue happened on the 2nd day. For the free breakfast, you have to make yourself your pancakes but everything is there and they are delicious.

Response from Mandi Y, Owner at Hi Tides Hostel - Twillingate & Beyond Inc.
Responded May 15, 2019
Thank you for taking the time to review us and letting us know about the hot water issue. We have never had this issue addressed in 2 years of operating with 2 tanks on site, but we care about the comfort of our guest and we are adding another hot water tank as we understand under full capacity it's clear the hot water has ran out. We have our owner/operators on site 7 days a week in the on site shop the Artisan Market, next door to the hostel, and encourage our guest to come meet us and see our 70+ NL Artisans we represent! Also our friendly and knowledgeable housekeeping staff are on site every day from 11 am - 3 pm and we have someone on call 24/7.

This was a most pleasant hostel.,spotlessly clean , warm and inviting. And a view as well. Lots of clean towels and even face cloths.Met a neat young couple from Ottawa who did our laundry with hers, folded same and returned to our room. Also left pancake mix for our breakfast. It does not get any better than that. Their moms raised them well and is no doubt very proud moms.

The hostel was very clean, modern and funky. We didn't have time to enjoy our pancakes as we had to leave super early. The only problem was the noise. Our room was facing the street with a bar across the way and the cars, trucks and motorcyclists whizzing by. The bed was comfortable and there were two bathrooms and showers. We would reccomend this hostel to anyone!

This beauty of a hostel was right on the Bay in Twillingate. It was adorable and modern and near the local craft brewery. It was clean and amazing. We loved it. Note for tall people, ceilings are low, my partner smoked his head a few times. I got perfectly!

I had no issues with my stay at this Hostel whatsoever. Interactions before my arrival were friendly and pleasant and all information was provided in a timely fashion. I arrived later than I thought I would but that wasn't a problem. They still had a parking spot and bed for me. The first thing I noticed was how quiet the place was despite being full capacity. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, the other guests were friendly and I slept very well. Everything, including the shared bathroom, was clean and well-organized and the I slept very well on the comfortable top bunk I booked.

Among the first things I did once stepping into the hostel was to get a hold of the owners to congratulate them about how the place is and is being maintained. It is a warm, quaint house facing the ocean, where cleanliness and colours are the two features one can immediately notice. The bunk beds aren't a lot (4 in total), but again the way the bedroom is set up makes you feel home. The heating can be adjusted in each room, there are lockers along with padlocks, the TV has Netflix and breakfast (pancakes + coffee/tea) is complimentary. Twillingate is a really cool spot and if you got there you're probably having a car. This means that within a short drive from the hostel many different hiking trails can be reached (maps are available at the hostel). The Farewell ferry terminal (to go to Fogo and Change Islands - a visit to these places is highly recommended) isn't that far too (it's roughly an hour drive).

Stayed at the Hi-Tides early in tourist season. Even though it was still very brisk outside, the whole building was warm, cozy and inviting. It's an older building, so the ceiling clearance in some areas is lower, but I'm not terribly tall so I never found it to be a problem. Everything inside is newer, clean, and bright. The bottom bunks in the dorm room are basically on the floor, but that sure beats squeaky springs of a normal hostel bunk bed, and it was really warm and comfortable. Mandi is super friendly and helpful. I'd definitely stay again.
