Detailed Reviews
We stayed in a studio in the South Villas and had a great experience. The room was in good condition and had a separate jacuzzi tub from the rainfall shower. We had a balcony that had a great view of the ocean and pool area. Watching the sunset right in front of the property was beautiful and made for great whale watching!!
We arrived right at checkin time so it was very busy but the bellmen handled the crowd well. They had plenty of bell carts to unload everyone. They have bins to put grocery or fragile items in since most people bring groceries. There are plenty of grills throughout the property. They had a free cultural show in the lawn area that we were about to catch before going to our room. They have a show every Saturday showcasing music and performances.
We had a rental car but the resort has a free shuttle, many activities, local vendors, and a market sets up close to the beach on Tuesdays. The shuttle takes you to Lahaina Cannery, an enclosed shopping area that just reopened in March 18, and Whaler's Village, an open air shopping mall with great dining right on the beach. Parking at the Village is limited but only about $8/hr and most restaurants will provide 2 hours of free parking. You will have beach access to enjoy at Whaler's Village
There is great snorkeling right on the beach at the resort and access to the beach walk path trail. The pool was open until 10 pm but the hot tubs are open 24/7.

We stayed at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas for 8 nights in January. The grounds are lovely, and the pool lounges are very comfortable. We enjoyed a one bedroom ocean view (Peek-a-boo ocean view from the balcony). We liked South building #2. Our room was very clean, and the double sinks, full kitchen, and washer and dryer in the room were great. Towels were changed daily which was helpful. We ate at Auntie's Kitchen twice. The food was very good, and it was convenient. Ask the concierge for a Vacation Privilege Card which gives 10% off at certain restaurants. This is a resort we would like to return to.

This was a vacation club sales presentation stay — at a reduced rate in exchange for sitting through a 90 min pitch. We decided not to buy-in despite numerous incentives … the place was crowded lotsa kids a lotta screaming kids. The room was a studio but slept 4 with a pullout couch. King bed kitchenette with 2 burner stove microwave and full fridge .. even a small dishwasher. The jacuzzi in our room didn’t work and by the 3rd day there were no housekeeping services so we had to complain . There was also no full size garbage can in the room simply a tiny bathroom waste can. They gave us a $50 voucher for the inconvenience which was nice and brought a trash can and came to fix the hot tub. These rooms go for $500-700/night. We paid $200 plus $30/day for parking. Perfect area with beach and walkable paths along shore. Free shuttle to Whalers Village too.

I chose this Marriot property because it said the room was "oceanfront" and was priced reasonably for the time of year ($712/night). I did not screenshot the rate, nor did I get a confirmation email - just several emails from the concierge asking about particulars -- and one explaining room cleaning fees (which would have applied if I owned one of the Villas, but was only renting through their site). The property is beautiful, the concierge helpful booking excursions - BUT the room was not facing the ocean and it only had a view if you hung out the door.
The biggest disappointment was the hard sell on ownership (you do get a night free for listening to the 90 minute pitch, but keep the letter from the concierge, as mine said it would credit over $1,100 back - but then I was told later it was the last night free -- which was a $700 rate), and the final bill which had some kind of "dynamic pricing" where 4 nights were charged at that $1,129/night rate -- adding an extra $1,200 onto what we were expecting to pay.
When speaking to the management there, they kept asking me for a confirmation number -- when I was not provided one, but somehow the reservation showed up in my Marriot Bonvoy app, my calendar with the name & address of the property, AND I got credit/points for staying there - so obviously Marriot and their Villas/privately owned properties have issues they need to work out.
This put a damper on my 60th birthday, and although I made several attempts on getting the pricing corrected, they were unwilling to do so without the non-existing confirmation email.
I stayed on the Big island in a Hilton property a few years back and was treated like royalty for celebrating an anniversary, so this hit hard (I am a memeber of both loyatly programs and am a lifetime Hilton Honors Diamond member - I only started staying in Marriots within the last year and made it to a gold level status, but changing back to Hiltons now).
To say that I am disappointed is an understatement, but we loved the people of Maui and wanted to support the community of Lahaina - so we had that to take back. My advise is choose elsewhere -- or if you do stay here, make sure you get an itemized estimate up front.

The front desk check in person I encountered was horrible. They gave me my room keys and told me my room and expected me to know where my rooms was located on the property. Little did I know there were 8 buildings. They could tell me which way to go. They didn't tell me which way to park. Maybe she had a bad day, but at least do the basic part of your job. I would stay at the other Westins if you have the opportunity based on the front desk. Moreover I ask for some help with room service. The service desk could have mentioned we are short staff and it might take awhile. If the service desk was able to communicate that I would not have called so many times asking for a simple towel and wondering why it takes 45 minutes for a towel. The service guy at least apologize. I get it that sometimes scheduling, sickness or other things cause your workforce to have problems to service. First appearance, the general feel is that nobody wants to work here.

From a location standpoint, this resort and the other westins are in a great spot. The pool is very nice, great views of the ocean, the grounds are beautiful. The rooms and supplies are fairly dated and unkempt, as was demonstrated by the non attached shampoo and soap dispensers in the shower, the couch full of tears, and the broken coffee maker. It is extremely overpriced from a per night standpoint. Hotel gift shop and restaurant are similarly overpriced. You will likely get a late check in and and early check out. Our room was not ready by 4pm and the internal resort gestapo will knock on your door before 10am the day of departure to remind you that you are no longer welcome. You may get a small resort credit by attending one of their ridiculously high pressure time share pitches. Ours lasted for almost two hours and ended with the sales executive insulting us because we chose not to purchase, when we made it clear from the get go we were looking for information. Despite all of this, you may think the service was great based off the per night cost. The front desk and luggage/valet staff are unfriendly at best, downright rude at worst. They will take any opportunity not to assist you. Conversely, the staff at Annie’s was phenomenal. While overpriced, they were extremely friendly with terrific service. Overall, the location is so great, that if you can trade in your timeshare or book this on a deal it’s worth it, just be prepared for exceptionally poor service anywhere outside of Annie’s.

People only write reviews when they have some problems during their stay and they never mention about the good things they had. Don’t be that guy! They arrive at 10 am and they want their room to be ready early. The check in time is 4pm. Why you go there at 10am and complain? we have waited 6 hours for our room to be ready!! You can start utilizing the property and beach ! They have a lounge that you can change, rest, shower. They have kids club , kids pool with pirate ship, 2 restaurants, bbq grill areas,2gyms, walking paths, basketball hoop, tennis and pickle ball, bunch of pool and the best beaches on the island. But instead of enjoying all these they fight for ocean view rooms or early checking or late check outs.. complaining about the self parking .. if self parking is not available go valet park and tell them the self parking was not available and they will comp the valet fee.
Lingy,John and Jerry are phenomenal at the front desk. Lui,Brandon on the top of it at the valet/bell. Chris and Penny are just amazing servers at the Pailolo. Bon did a great job at the Aunties. Love this place will back again fhosho. Small tips for people who is thinking to book here ; don’t check in on Friday or Saturday or your room won’t be ready on time because it’s busy check in days for the owners. Don’t ask for LCO especially if you check out on Friday Saturday and Sunday, you will receive a hard no. Don’t book ocean front or view , most likely you won’t like the view you will get because those rooms are often given to the owners. Instead try to get a room that is easy access to the pools or restaurants or to the lobby. At north my favorite is Building 6 and 1st floor , you can literally walk out from your lanai door and bumm you are at the pool in 10 seconds.

Good things- stayed in North tower- room was nice - view was correct - we didnt get the wrong view like many people seem to- we got what we were expecting as far as the view and the room seemed newish and updated. The location was nice- the beach was great and calm, not a lot of people around like the resort side.
Negatives: I requested an early check in as we landed early- we were at hotel about 2:30 / 3:00- with groceries and reg. check in is 4- we didnt get in the room until 5:20. Not a great start. ( Dont land early - lots of ppl seemed to be waiting on their rooms to be ready. ) Elevators were very far from the room... quite a trek to go anywhere (TIP: we started using the stairs. ) There was 2 bugs I encountered - but where I encountered was the problem- kitchen drawer and bed! Noise at night that woke us up and made it hard to sleep - not sure what it was- they couldnt tell me. (Corner room close to utility room) AC was weird -all doors had to be shut and latched and they were very stiff to open and close so that was a pain- it would just get warm and even though the doors were closed we had to re open and close and latch and it was frustrating . The parking lot has no hotel entry - you have to walk outside and around to the main hotel entrance. Lastly staff was nice in person... but call them on the phone and they are very rude I called before arriving and I called after being there to ask for clarity on a cc charge and both times the women on the phone were so rude and condescending- not the aloha vibes you expect. I have stayed at the villas at the Marriott and remember not having any issues whatsoever.

Read these reviews if considering a stay at this resort. It should be wonderful, but I truly don’t think anyone at the Westin has any idea how terrible things have gotten at this property. Rooms are not ready for hours after they should be, we never got the room we paid for, said we would be contacted over and over to “make it right” and never heard a thing back, the people are SO rude. We were not so much as offered water. These are no longer isolated incidents. If you cannot accommodate the amount of guests who are set to arrive, do not accept that volume of reservations. They misplaced my husbands Rolex watch, iPhone and wallet at the pool. The response we got was “that’s rough, I’ll get a manager”. Turns out, there’s a policy that is not communicated to guests that you need to take a tag off of your towel. We had no idea and ignored this tag. Our belongings were taken to the cabana. I get it, the policy makes sense, but you need to communicate this to guests and know where you put their valuables. . At one point I said to a concierge “hi! I’m looking for Jay?” And their response was “and???”.
Had I not had small children and my elderly mother with me, we would’ve checked out and found a resort outside of the Marriott family.
We went with every intention of buying into the vacation club, but our negative experience, coupled with current owners warning potential buyers not to do it, made our decision to not proceed an easy one.
Please do not waste your money, and just as importantly, your vacation time, on a nightmare like this.

This property is a time-share so it is not a luxury service resort. Most people here take advantage of the condo style rooms and cook their own food and bring their own beverages down to the pool. If that is what you are expecting, than this is a good place to stay - nice big pools and right on the beach.
The rooms are big. The bathrooms are big. Don't expect daily room service though. Getting more towels or other housekeeping service takes time. Again - this is a timeshare condo property.
Overall, the place is an ordinary high traffic time share property. The parking in the NORTH building is terrible. All of the spaces are marked "COMPACT." Unless you drive a Mini Cooper, good luck getting into a space.
We enjoyed our stay, but liked the location of our last trip next door to Whaler's Village.

Hello .
You may use all the pools on the property whether staying at North or South towers.
The biggest pool is at the South building and that’s where you’ll find most people and children as the slide is there. There are two further pools. One is at the quiet zone and is small. This pool tends to be for adults. There is another decent sized pool close by Pailolo Bar. It is quite lively, too. It and the big South pool can be used by any owner or guest.
If it’s some exercise you’re looking for, do some laps early in the morning.
Whichever pool you use, you’re sure to have a great time.
Hello.
Yes, the shuttle was operating to Whaler’s Village and to the Lahaina Gateway.
