As all the camps in NZ also this one is overpriced for what you get: Small and not clean showers and kitchen and piece of land where you can camp. For 20$ per person I think it is way too much. Otherwise the staff is friendly and helpful with kiwi-spotting tips.

I wish I could give it more than just 5 stars. This place is just perfect, and probably the best vacation spot I have ever been to!! How much did we like it? Well, we were supposed to stay here for 3 nights, then spend the next night (last of our vacation) in Auckland and spend our last vacation day...

The actual island is absolutely amazing. A really quiet retreat where the stars of the show are the kiwis! We saw three on our two nights stay and it was an amazing memorable experience. We stayed in the fantail cabin for our two nights. I would probably rate the cabin as 'average' boosted by the obvious kiwi attraction. The cabin...

This place is wonderful! Small, secluded and apparently has the famous allusive Kiwi (although we were not able to do much looking). One washing machine and a dryer and on tank water so probably best not to come with the intention of doing too much washing, $5 pay at reception. The staff are wonderful. Lots of great info about Kiwi's....

If you are wanting to see wild Kiwi's then this is the place to go. We stayed in the Fan Tail room for two nights which was advertised as functional and functional it was, My only criticism would be that the room was dusty and had lots of cobwebs in it, a little bit of tidying before guests arrive would...

We had downloaded a camper site App. That is his we found the island. When we arrived the staff could not have been more attentive or helpful. We had been there all of 5 minutes when we put on our boots and went out on the rocks to claim some rock oysters. Next day a walk around the island and...

We stayed one night on this beautiful, idyllic island. The camping grounds are well situated with basic but perfectly adequate and clean facilities and good showers. The staff at the Ecological Centre were really friendly and helpful, and spent a lot of time giving us tips on finding Kiwis and other birds. They provide red cellophane to cover your torch...

The place is fabulous for everyone who seeks a fab camp spot with some serious wildlife experience thrown in for free! Night Kiwi spotting obviously takes the price given how rare the birds are. Having said this there is a high diversity of sea birds to see all day long. If this isn't enough for you - we loved the...

Went here today to have a look at the lodge and cabins. Great accomodation, tent sites, and the island is home to several kiwi who are regularly heard and seen at night. I think it's a unique place in that there are camping sites right next to kiwi habitat on a small island. This place has real promise and I...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Aroha Island offers a range of accommodation: Aroha Kiwi Lodge, our bush cottages Fantail Cottage and Tui Cottage as well as beach and bush camping. It’s the perfect place to just relax or to use as a holiday base to explore the Bay of Islands. Aroha Island offers camping on one of our two beautiful campgrounds. Unpowered sites down by our sheltered Kerikeri inlet beach or a choice of powered or unpowered sites in our upper bush campground. Aroha Island is a 12ha sanctuary in the Kerikeri Inlet and is a short 12km drive north east of Kerikeri, in the stunning Bay of Islands. A causeway links the island to the mainland, providing permanent and convenient vehicle access. It is a natural haven with a wide diversity of New Zealand plants and birds including the rare North Island Brown Kiwi.(You must stay on the Island to go for a Kiwi walk or phone or email for a guided Kiwi tour). Stroll the private beach, kayak the inlet, take a bush walk, look for birds and check out the information in the Eco Centre. Please note because of the presence of Kiwi & the sensitive nature of the island, a “No Pets, No Smoking” policy is in place, thank you. ... more   less
