I came down from Richmond for a solo weekend away. While I love my boyfriend and our three dogs and my crazy job I needed some me time and this place delivered! As a solo traveler you can sometimes feel alone or treated differently but no one blinked an eye when I wanted a single beach chair, pool chair, or to have dinner at the bar. On the contrary I felt welcome and appreciated at every turn. The history lesson from the door man when I came in, the first class check-in experience, lounge chair set up at the pool and the beach, and ridiculously delicious food, conversation, and service from each the hotel’s restaurants the Hunt Room and Becca’s has made my experience here probably the best in my life. Especially my evening with Bianca at the Becca, she insisted on me treating myself and utilizing the wonderful onsite som to ensure I had the right wine for me and my meal. Her attention and candid conversation is exactly why I love sitting at the bar and getting to know my bartenders. This is a five star review and by nature this is a five star resort deserving of its accolades. But there’s always room for improvement. The pool deck and beach amenities are limited and are very quickly scooped up by early birds. This happens at most resorts and I wonder the difficulty or expense in having enough or extra spaces and shade for everyone. I also believe having more dedicated service to the beach and pool deck would tremendously boost sales and happiness. I 100% understand the hiring shortage in restaurants right now but expecting three bartenders to manage drinks from guests on the pool deck, at the beach, and externally is unfair to both the guests and the bartenders. All in all this place will be my go to anytime I need to sneak out of RVA and get some needed me time. Thank you to all the hotel staff for an amazing stay.

First and foremost this hotel is gorgeous. There isn’t an inch of it (inside or out) that isn’t perfectly decorated or manicured. It has been beautifully restored with every detail thoroughly thought out. It is rich with history and unique in every way. This was our third trip to the Cavalier and on this trip we stayed 5 luxurious nights in a beautiful suite. However all the rooms are exquisite (and quiet) with extremely comfortable beds, upgraded linens and spacious bathrooms complete with lovely amenities from the SeaHill Spa. The fitness facility offers all types of strength and aerobic training options with beautiful natural lighting. The indoor pool is breathtaking and worth a quick dip if time permits. With several restaurants and so much to see and do at this resort, there is really no need to ever leave the property. On this particular trip we did notice the service to be a bit spotty at Becca as well as the Beach Club bar. I believe this was an anomaly and can be attributed to new hires as the resort gears up for the season - it certainly wouldn’t stop us from returning or highly recommending. It’s also worth noting that there is construction next door to the beach club (a new Embassy Suites that will be part of the Cavalier Oceanfront Resort). It’s crazy loud and constant throughout the day. It appears to have just started within the last few months so it will likely be going on well into 2022. If it becomes too bothersome you can simply retreat to the beach for a nice set up and let the ocean drown out the sound. PRO TIPS: 1. Go directly to the bar for service at the Beach Club. Otherwise you’ll wait 20+ minutes for a drink that will be warm by the time it makes it way to you. 2. Becca is a beautiful spot for breakfast (don’t let those salty hostesses deter you!) Ask for a seat closer to the front to limit your exposure to the flys that seem to swarm on the back porch. If you can sit in Brandon’s section even better. He provides excellent service. 3. Do not miss dinner at Orion’s Roof. Reservation fill up quickly so plan ahead. 4. Make sure to reserve time to enjoy a delicious cocktail in the Raleigh Room. The room is breathtaking and the cocktails are delicious. 5. If you have time, book a spot on the Tarnished Truth Distillery tour/tasting. It is fantastic. If you don’t have time, drop by their gift shop downstairs where you’ll find lots of great gifts (the resort’s primary gift shop upstairs is great as well!) 6. The food at the Hunt Room is surprisingly delicious and their bartenders are absolute pros. 7. The turn down service is oddly timed between 4:30-5:00, but they bring a new selection of cookies each day, which is a very nice touch, so make sure to remove your DND so you can partake!

First trip post covid for my husband and I to celebrate my birthday and it’s been a mostly positive hotel experience with some room for improvement. Pros: Unique vintage hotel with beautiful indoor and outdoor dining and pool facilities. We loved the beach club and found the staff there overall very attentive. The beach view and ability to pop from one setting to another is a big plus! The beautiful indoor pool is AWESOME for rainy days. The breakfast at Becca is delicious and the wait staff is superb. We had fun making smores and love the nightly cookies as a classy touch for turn down service. The rooms are cutely decorated with comfy beds and excellent shower/water pressure. The Hunt dinner was unique and delicious. Valet and concierge staff very friendly. A few cons: Hotel knew it was my birthday trip but put nothing in the room to acknowledge and said nothing when we checked in (as most other luxury marriots would). Construction by the outdoor pool is ongoing and quite LOUD- weren’t told about this when booked. Restaurants (particularly Tulu and the beach club pool bar) are really understaffed and food takes way too long- seems like they need to hire/train more people. No availability for hotel guests for Sunday brunch or weekend tea (even when we tried to arrange multiple days in advance- they should really ask you when you book if you want to reserve those experiences as we felt sad to miss out). We called and asked for a bodywash and shampoo refill almost daily but they must be out because it was never refilled… Overall lovely experience and would recommend this hotel for couples and families looking for a unique beach/pool getaway.

The hotel looked great. The staff were all helpful. The valet parking was a nuisance because I felted rushed trying to get an infant out of the car. Asked for a foam pillow and it was confirmed done but only had poly filled pillows in room. The roam itself was beautifully decorated. The bathroom was very nice. Both spacious. Bed was a little soft but linens were very nice. Housekeeping brought some feminine products when asked for them. Beach club was closed because of the rain. The valet parking was good but not my choice when I had an infant to get in and out each time. It would be nice to have some sort of cover for the front driveway to keep us out of the rain, which we had a lot of the day we stayed. Breakfast at Becca was pricey and it had juice, coffee or tea included. I was charged fir the drink of choice I had but did not complain about it because I realized it after I had left.

Room Tip: The indoor pool is stuffy and loud, but nice for an indoor swim when it rains.

Our family made reservations for tour and dinner at the Cavalier Hotel to celebrate my birthday. The hotel itself is quite beautiful and offers many amenities. One special one is the Tarnished Truth Distillery that is on site. We toured the distillery and it ended with a tasting. The host, Rachel, was knowledgeable and excellent in her presentation. Suffice to say, the tasting yielded a the purchase of two bottles of Tarnished Truth bourdon and bourdon syrup. Now, following the tour we ate dinner at Becca's. Everything from the popover, cocktails, entrée and dessert were fabulous. Our server, Stephen, made the entire experience wonderful, as well. The information he provided on the hotel's history was delightfully colorful and informative. This was a wonderful birthday celebration and we plan to be back next year.
