The Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel garners appreciation for its diverse room selections and digital convenience, with guests often captivated by the ocean vistas. However, the closure of certain amenities and maintenance concerns have been noted. The atmosphere buzzes with energy, underscored by live music, although the revelry from the sky bar might be too much for quieter guests. While the rooms are comfortable and boast impressive views, some visitors have raised issues regarding cleanliness and value for money. The service quality varies, with commendations for staff friendliness counterbalanced by criticisms of inconsistent service. Additionally, the cost of staying here, including parking fees, is considered high by numerous travelers.

We had a good experience this time. We've come to this hotel for a decade, because we want an oceanfront view and the location near some of the better restaurants and attractions. The past few years have been a bit rough, but they seem to be taking at least some of the customers' feedback.

our room was ready on arrival, and we used the digital key to check in. I received a text from the front desk, welcoming me and asking if there was anything I needed. I requested a higher floor this time, which had a great view and the room was much nicer. On the 19th floor, we had a nicer bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and a TV on the mirror.

** Be aware: if you stay on the 19th floor, you are going to hear the sky bar night lounge, in which loud music lasts until about 2 AM. We wish we had been warned about this, not having stayed on this floor previously. They only do the lounge on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. So thankfully, we did not hear any noise on Tuesday or Wednesday night. You can, however, hear the nightly concert at Neptune Park, which is right next to the hotel. You can hear this from any floor, especially the corner rooms. But we don't mind the concerts since a lot of times we enjoy the music and that's over at 10 PM.

The Empyrian lounge, on the 20th floor which used to serve breakfast and have daily happy hour snacks, and drinks, appears to be permanently closed. This was disappointing. My guess is that it is a staff issue, and hopefully they will bring it back.

The food and service at the pool bar has definitely improved since last year, though I wish they would try to hire more mature bartenders. This time, they consisted of young ladies who were somewhat friendly, but spent a lot of time chatting with their friends who showed up. The drinks are OK but barely have alcohol, and I'm not even a big drinker. But it has improved since last year when service was awful. The pool water in the outdoor pool was freezing, and they should consider heating that pool!

The service at Catch 31, the downstairs restaurant, was much better than before. The hotel seemed to have better security, especially on the top level where the pools are. Housekeeping was better this time, and they brought us extra towels when we requested them.

It appears they are making strides to improve customer service, which is important at a hotel like this one with a high price tag. There's also a competition from the new Marriott hotel with the beach club, so hopefully that will keep the improvements coming. I do like this hotel, so I want it to continue to do well.

So, after the reservation was made, Hilton kept me informed all the way up to my arrival. The Valet, was very receptive and welcoming. The check in was good. I used the digital key to access the room 1214, liked it. The bellman brought in my items and I asked him how to turn on the frig, both he and I looked and could not figure it out. After he left, I noticed it was not even plugged in. The room was clean and neat. The view of the beach was nice. Now, getting down to the nitty gritty. Starting in the bathroom. The main light for the bathroom for over the tub, and the other light was a dim light around the mirror. The toilet roll holder, when sitting on the toilet was behind the toilet on the left. Bad place to put it. The hair dryer was hidden behind the towels, under the sink counter to the left. I like that the Hand cream, Shampoo, and conditioner bottles were attached to the wall. Onto the room, I expressed my concerns to the front desk and directly to the management, but I don’t feel I was taken seriously. The lights in the room between the bed were touch light, but because of the overly large light shade, you would never know it and definitely CAN NOT SEE how to turn on the lights. I called the front desk and asked how to turn them on and they did not know. WoW! They sent someone to assist, but by the time they showed up, when sitting down in a chair, I saw the touch buttons. The maintenance man who came said they have told management about the problem, but the management has done nothing about it. A sign with be appropriate and helpful. Lastly, I wanted to turn on the fan. The switch on the wall was not doing it. Maintenance was called again. The guy came in and pulled the pull cord to turn it on. WoW! I am 4’10”, like I could have reached it? The fan should have be on and been able to turn it on at the switch. Overall, I like the stay, but Hilton should consider fixing these small problems which could have been easily avoided and not waste my vacation time. Checkout was a breeze and I wish the whole stay had been for that price.

They are definitely making improvements. Last year, our stay was a bit rough. This year, they appear to be making an effort. The lounge chairs on the rooftop bar and pool area had been replaced with nicer ones. Our room was very clean upon arrival, though we asked for housekeeping and never got it. The service at their downstairs restaurant, Catch 31, was good, though the quality of their food has declined. My husband and I both got the crabcake dinner, and the crabcakes were dry, with undercooked potatoes on the side. We saw the hiring sign outside, and we realize they are limited on staff. The elevators were atrocious, with one elevator being down for part of our stay.

The rooftop pool and the sky bar have such potential, but the bar staff got my drink wrong on two different days and and seemed to be very distracted by conversation.

The pool is too small to accommodate a large group of children who seem to be unattended, playing monkey in the middle and there is no room for that in such a small pool. They repeatedly jump into the water splashing other guests. Kids are kids, but the pool is too small to accommodate such horse play. I wonder whether they could do adults only hours, perhaps earlier in the day, so that guests without kids could enjoy some quiet time.
Or, at the very least just have a rule of no jumping in the pool. The water is only 4 feet deep so it’s not that safe.

We want to like this place, because we do enjoy the ocean views from our balcony in the superior corner room. We are diamond members, and we appreciate accumulating points for each stay. One warning: the superior corner rooms seem to be all on the side of the hotel closest to Neptune Park, which hosts various concerts. On Tuesday night, I they hosted a heavy-metal band, which was an opening act for a 90s group that we did enjoy. But if you don’t like live music, you might not want to stay on this end of the hotel.

Housekeeping has got to do a better job, because we saw bags of trash in the hallway that were there when we arrived on Tuesday and still there when we checked out yesterday. They didn’t honor our request to have housekeeping, and I’m pretty tired of that.

The hotel is on the nicer end of the boardwalk, close to some really great restaurants, and it’s quieter than elsewhere on the boardwalk. Hopefully, they can get their housekeeping act together and improve the standards of service to what they should be for the Prius.

The location of this hotel is stellar, it is close to everything and right next to a stage where there are often some pretty well known musical acts (we were there during the Neptune Festival). However, it is very loud to stay on the north side of the hotel and there was usually live music every night until at least 9 pm. We had a corner room with oceanfront views from two windows, it was beautiful but the hotel was lacking in service and appears to be hurting. When we first arrived on Monday, the lobby was really dark and there appeared to be several lights that were not on. They turned all the lights on for the weekend (although there were several bulbs that were out). The next problem was the elevators, they were so slow. It was fine during the week but starting on Thursday, there was a line for the elevator everytime we needed it and we often didn't get onto the first car when we were in line in the lobby. At one point during our stay, the water went out and we were not notified. It took me a half hour and a call to the bellhop to even get anyone at the front desk on the phone to report the issue. I was told they were aware and there was an emergency they had to shut down the water in the building but it would be back on in 15-20 minutes. I waited 45 minutes, no water. Called again, they said another 15- 20 minutes. I waited 30 minutes, no water. I called again, they said 20-25 minutes. I asked if there were any working toilets in the building, they told me to go to the gym. However, when I left the room, I could hear the maid service running water in another room ON MY FLOOR! We also did not receive maid service for the first three nights of our stay. I didn't mind this too much as there was a notice in the room saying maid service was only upon request except for stays of four nights or more but our towels and coffee were not replenished for that time. After the third night, we received maid service everyday and they consistently gave us fresh towels and coffee. The maids were also very nice and attentive if we asked for anything. The final issue I had was there was no guide in the room. Nothing telling us where amenities were located in the hotel, room service menu or television guide. There was a channel guide on the TV, but no programming guide. They also provided us with a QR code for the room service menu but neither of our phones could read it.

We liked the location of this hotel very much. We valet parked our car and only had to retrieve it one day when we drove to a movie (on a rainy day). It was walkable to many shops, once right across the street was very nice and it was perfectly located on the boardwalk. We were next to Neptune’s statue and there was also a bike rental place right out front . Our family of 4 rented one of those and had a blast pedaling down the entire boardwalk, which was 2.25 miles to the right . I was worried reading some of the reviews saying how dated and worn the hotel is . Our room was good. There was some wear , for example a small piece of wallpaper was peeling on the wall and our safe was never usable even after security came up a few times to try and unlock it , but overall our stay was good. The wait for the elevators was very slow , I’m surprised they only have 3 elevators for the entire place , but it wasn’t unbearable . They had a restaurant on site Catch 31- I wouldn’t recommend the breakfast because it cost us $100 with tip for 4 of us, but come for dinner , there is more value there. There is a Duck donuts, Starbucks and pancake places in walking distance go there for breakfast.
We had an ocean view room that faced Neptunes statue and was on the 8th floor. We liked it alot. There were no concerts this time of year , so it wasn’t too loud. But we could easily hear loud music from cars playing music that drove up and down the road.
The balconies were nice, my only complaint is they’re not private because there are no privacy dividers between them . You could easily see/hear anyone next to you. But we would consider going back here again.

The Hilton Va Beach is very nice with offering an array of different rooms. In order to access certain floors and the sky bar and pool - you must have a room which is an extra safety feature. At the check in desk, they do have a small market for any sundries or toiletries you may have forgotten. They also have valet or self parking, self-parking is free - they will give you a code at check in (parking garage is nice). I have stayed here several times and I feel that hotel could use some sprucing up. They also mobile entry to your room which is nice. I’d stay here again for sure, I do think the rooms are very much overpriced for what they offer.

Attractive hotel, great location, all rooms face the ocean and so have beautiful views. The restaurant is good enough - food was decent, and staff ranged from oblivious to very friendly and accommodating. We had a special price for our block of rooms, but when there was an issue with that, the regular Hilton phone number was useless - woman who could not speak (or apparently understand) English well just read off irrelevant policies - but Amberly at the front desk at the hotel was very helpful in setting things straight!

Thank you for your feedback and kind review. To clarify we do have City View rooms, as well as Oceanview and Oceanfront, in our 289 available rooms. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with Hilton. I'm sorry to hear you found some of our staff less than engaging, and we can certainly keep that in mind for future training and guest focused programming. Our stay was amazing. The jets do fly across, but honestly we didn’t notice them until we were outside and couldn’t hear them in our room unless the balcony door was open. The partial ocean view was amazing and we loved the ‘07 room!

The best part of the hotel was by far the employees. The valet ( I didn’t catch his name) went to my car and got my charger while I walked to Starbucks (which is a block away 🙌🏻) the valet wasn’t expensive compared to Charlotte or other destinations at 20.00 per day. Gloria on the housekeeping team went out of her way to make my kids feel welcome and talk to them, even the construction crew uplifting the restaurant was pleasant and acknowledging of my kids as we walked by.

Max at the front desk was really helpful and we really enjoyed the whole team in catch 31 as we ate there for dinner one night and breakfast each day. Michelle and Samuel (rest.manager) went above and beyond to make sure our breakfast the second day went well and they were BUSY!

Also, not to mention how much we enjoyed the skybar with Devante and Christine. Devante made a personal connection by talking about his kid in relation to ours and was a great bartender! He makes a great old fashioned. My son adored Christine and wanted to follow her around the pool!

Thank you for being an amazing vacation spot and being so close to the ocean making it wonderful with kids. This was our first VA beach trip and we usually go to NC or north Myrtle and this definitely has us coming back!!

in an earlier review i forgot to mention on 9/29/22 the Virginia Beach Fire Dept was present.

also no concierge for one and a half days, housekeeping requests must go through the front desk there is no way to contact them directly.

food was left near the elevators all night and into the next day even though it was reported to the front desk.

could not find a porter to help with luggage.

on a better note parking was fine across the street in parking garage.

room was clean unpon arrival except for stained carpet.

view was exceptional from room

would not stay there again due to lack of management/staffing during fire alarm situation that could have been life threatening and owners evidently dont care and manager did not show up until 9 the next morning

Catch 31 is our full-service restaurant. They provide both a breakfast buffet and items to order off menu. They keep updated menus on their website. In addition, guests who qualify for access to Empyrean lounge have access to a continental + some hot options breakfast free during their stay. There are many additional restaurants within walking distance, but those I shared are onsite collocated with the hotel. We also offer room service.
