The positives - it was clean. The caretaker, Murray, was nice enough.
The negatives - After checking in earlier in the day, I arrived at my room about 9:30 PM. The grounds were dark and I couldn't see to get my key in the door to unlock it. Not a problem however, because the room was unlocked. Meaning anyone could have strolled into my room and been waiting when I arrived.
The first thing I noticed when I entered the room was a substantial slope to the floor - visible to the naked eye. It was so pronounced that the bathroom door would swing open unless fully closed. The water in the shower pooled in the corner and didn't fully drain as a result of the slope as well.
The walls were vintage 60's wood paneling. Those that were not paneled had been mudded with drywall mastic and never even sanded before being painted over. It looked like a home improvement project gone very wrong.
The walls were adorned with various heating and air-conditioning units. Apparently, when one went out, a new hole was cut to put in another.
The light over the bed had no switch. You have to stand on the bed to pull the chain to turn it on.
The bed, of course, sloped with the floor. It also has no headboard. The mattress was just butted up against the wall. This turned out to be a positive, because my pillow clanked against the blinds masked behind the curtains, alerting me to the fact that I could draw the blinds to mask the spot-light that was shining into the window.
There was no bed cover on the bed. Just a sheet and blanket.
The was a fairly useless "kitchenette" that occupied a good portion of the room, causing the rest of the room to be crowded. A miss-mash of utensils a orange vinyl chairs completed the décor. Oh, and a hotel-type coffee maker, but no coffee.
The place was fitting for a hunting cabin, but not a motel in a resort town. I paid about $85 for the night because I only needed a place to sleep for a few hours. I haven't stayed at a $20/night room for a long time, but they were nicer than this.
I'd like to be for supportive of the local mom and pop businesses, but readers are going to be deceived by the glowing reviews previously posted here (like I was). Sorry, Mom. You really need some serious upgrading to this property.
