My husband and I have family in the area and are having a new home built, so we've been up to Sumner frequently and just spent 2 nights this past weekend. It's our 3rd stay at this Holiday Inn over the past 2 months. The building is well maintained and attractive. Staff are helpful and friendly, and the rooms are comfortable with everything we needed. With all of the Covid restrictions they're still able to provide a hot boxed breakfast, which we appreciate. There's no daily housekeeping, but the front desk staff provide extra keurig coffee pods, towels, tp, etc. if you ask. Despite the nearby train tracks the rooms we've had have all been quiet. We will be staying here at least one or 2 more times in December.

My daughter lives nearby so we seem to spend a lot of time at this hotel lately. Rooms are super clean and fresh, as it is newly renovated. Staff is excellent, professional and friendly. Angie and Jillian are two standouts who are particularly pleasant. We have a small dog who accompanies us and we find the rooms very pet-friendly. We will continue to make Holiday Inn Express and Suites our home away from home!

This hotel is like all the other HIE everywhere except its not run as well. 1) The parking is tight because another hotel is being built right next door. So why would they schedule pressure washing now, and during the week and block off dozens of parking spots?!? So ignorant. Now we have to park far away on a gravel lot if you can find a spot. DO IT ON THE WEEKEND OR DO IT WHEN THE OTHER HOTEL IS DONE AND THERE IS MORE PARKING! 2) The lamps next to the bed not only have no electrical plugs, the led bulbs they use emit such a weak amount of light you cant even read a book in bed. Poor lighting and no electrical plugs...just like you would find in. 1980’s era motel. 3) When I first stayed here, I was happy to get soap that was a little better size than the oval thin ones that look like the ones I throw away at home. But the next day there were the pathetic soaps back...and they even took away the one good unused one. How nice. 3) A few days the housekeeping people did a rush job and didn’t empty the trash, replace the coffee, didn’t replace the face cloths and left used ones in the shower. The quality control in housekeeping is non-existent. On the plus side, many of the staff are nice.

Response from IHGService, Guest Relations Manager at Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Sumner
Responded Oct. 4, 2019
Hello littlemtn, Thank you for staying at our Holiday Inn Express Sumner - Puyallup Area. We always aim to provide a friendly and responsive service just when you need it, and I'd like to thank you for commending our staff! We are all about giving exceptional service to our guests and are committed to comfort in every way. I'm sorry there were a couple of issues you encountered that spoiled your stay. I know how letdown you must have felt towards the parking situation, the lack of electrical outlets and the bath soap. I have conveyed your comments to the housekeeping manager and maintenance department for checking. I am confident that the necessary steps will be made, to make improvements. Though we would prefer you had a better experience at our hotel, we would like to thank you for sharing your thoughts and hope you will allow us to serve you again in the future. Safe travels, Deborah R. Case Manager IHGService

The hotel was close to our relatives and was comfortable. Nice beds, pillows okay, room was clean. Hallways were warm and stuffy. It was hot outside but the AC was not up enough. Breakfast was very nice. Too bad some of the guests used the little " take and go" bags to load up several and depleted the choices for the rest of us. Ran out of cartons of milk and muffins. The little make your own pancake machine turned out ok pancakes. Kind of chewy but I'm sure kids wouldn't mind. Overall a nice stay and the staff were super nice.

We were on a recent road trip when we stayed here. This is a nice newer space to stay in. It’s clean and in great shape. It had a lot of availability. The free breakfast has a couple of ladies who are fabulous ambassadors for IHG. They worked to make a great experience for all. Nearby there is Branks BBQ which is where we got dinner. There’s a 24/7 coffee place within walking distance. They are also extremely close to train tracks. You will hear the train. If you’re a light sleeper, request ear plugs from the front desk or request a room on the entrance door side. We heard the train whistle but only noticed while awake. The workout space is decent. It has cardio, weights and yoga mat. The pool was extremely popular. The bed is very comfortable for a good night’s sleep. The room has a larger mini fridge and microwave and of course a personal coffee maker. Nice place to rest up.
