The lodge and property are rustic and whimsy. I gave the lodge direct feedback regarding our stay... service rendered vs. payment. Our room wasn't serviced during our 3 night stay and the front desk didn't seem too concerned about it when I approached them. Getting our own towels etc wasn't a big deal and at the same time, for the price per day, it was an expectation based on the outline of our reservation and promised services. The mountain bike trails are excellent, the bar is awesome and the staff employed at it were incredible. Shoutout to Kenna and Willow. The food is pretty pricey but the convenience of an onsite restaurant and bar were unsurpassed and not having to make the trek into town made the prices worth it. Views are incredible. Swimming pool and hot tub are both salt water and a must if you stay here. Be ready for very limited mobile reception. There is wi-fi while around and in the main lodge and the two adjacent buildings but not at the Patterson Lake Cabins or anywhere surrounding the property. There was a group of young men down from our room at Mt. Gardner who were quite loud until late in the night. There is never an easy answer for this but there were at least 6 of them staying in one room. We had massages as the spa. While the massages were amazing, the ambiance and lay out of the massage rooms felt a little..... weird. They appear to be old hotel rooms that have been half hearted converted into massage rooms. I probably wouldn't spend the $300 on it again. I think with small and thoughtful spa renovations, it would be an overall fantastic spa. Overall, we loved our trip away. There are just a few items that would make me stop to think before booking here again which is really disappointing because the location is unmatched and the vibe is great.

Sun Mountain Lodge reminds me of several US national park lodges, with positives and negatives.
First, the positives:
1. The location and setting are spectacular, with views to match. Hiking trails are scattered all over the area. Winthrop with its attractions is a fifteen minute drive down the mountain.
2. Our room (315) was comfortable if simply appointed but include a Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine and a bedside technology hub (power and USB-A ports).
3. Staff are responsive: After checking in, staff sent a text with an invitation to respond with questions and requests. I sent one room-related request (to replace a flickering overhead bathroom light), which was fixed after we left the room for the day.
4. Breakfast in the main dining room was quite good with selections that were ample and reasonably priced.

Negatives:
1. Like national park lodges, Sun Mountain is an older structure, and it shows in some of the public areas.
2. The dining room is only open for dinner Thursday-Sunday, and the prices are very high. The bar is open seven days a week and has simple fare at slightly less cost. Alternatively, we had a spectacular dinner on our first night at the Arrowleaf Bistro in Winthrop and the second night at the Mazama Public House.

Just Okay:
1. The fitness room is adequate with two treadmills (one was out of order), two bikes (upright and recumbent),a water-resistance rower, and a stair stepper glider. There were no towels or sanitizing wipes on my first morning but were stocked after texting the staff.

Overall, Sun Mountain is a decent place to stay, and we will most likely return because of its location. The main lodge is probably the best play to stay because of access to the restaurants, fitness room and other amenities. It is expensive, however, with a nightly rate exceeding $300 for a lodge room with mountain view This includes a nightly resort fee of $23 + 8.4% tax.

Spent four days here during a meeting of a Board I serve on, and I have to say this is a truly amazing place. Our room was in the main lodge, and as you can see in my pictures, the rooms are large, bright, well appointed, clean, and by staying in the lodge we had easy access to a magnificent lobby, both restaurants, gift shop and more. On top of a mountain in 10 miles away from town but the drives worth it. There are plenty of things to do here, including an Olympic size, outdoor pool, hot tub, beautiful, outdoor seating with fire pits and lounging in the big lobby in front of the fireplace. And just outside the door were several beautiful trails sneaking around the mountain and down to the lower level and two nearby lakes. Now there are a couple of things to be aware of. First there are no televisions or microwaves in the room. There is a small refrigerator. The gift shop has very limited food and beverage options so be sure and stop at the grocery store in Winthrop and stock up on beverages, snacks etc. before you drive up the mountain. There are two dining options at the resort, both pretty pricey, there is a beautiful dining room with a good menu, but has noted very pricey. There’s also a really nice bar with a different menu, also on the pricey side, but not as much as the dining room. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But there are tons of amazing restaurants in Winthrop and nearby twisty so if you’re there for more than one night all you have to do is drive about 10 miles into Winthrop or Twisp for lunch or dinner. And by the way, if you’re in Twisp you have to go to the Twisp Bakery. It’s amazing!!!! I should also point out that there are bike rentals, horseback, riding, and other recreational opportunities available through the resort. Fortunately, my wife was able to come along and we both can’t wait to return. And I should also mention that in terms of scenery, the Methow Valley has got to be one of the most beautiful places in the world.

We last visited Sun Mountain Lodge in October 2021. Our experience then was phenomenal with dining, service and hospitality excellent. We found the current lodge experience a definite poor experience. Aside from breakfast we would suggest dining elsewhere, which means a minimum 50 minute drive back and forth to either Twisp or Winthrop. The main dining room is only open from Thursday through Saturday. We had one dinner and one lunch in the bar restaurant. Both were very poor experiences., Th e lack of service staff meant long waits to order and very long waits to get your food and long waits to pay. The food was OK at best. For the meal prices one would expect a much better experience and menu selection. I don't fault the service staff as much as management who appear to be operating with a skeleton staff. Also be aware that you must request daily housekeeping. The front desk are to make you aware of this at check in. Ours did not and we did not read the counter sign referencing housekeeping on request. For the room price we will not return unless they completely improve their service.

We needed a roll-over bed to sleep one extra person in a king bedroom. When there was no staff available late night to get the roll-over, Sun Mountain Lodge went above and beyond to accommodate an empty adjacent room. Do note that this is not a busy day, but still, this was great customer service.

This was our second visit in 2 years, and we will be returning soon... The breakfast service was great; not over priced given it is a tourist spot, and brunch items were savory (not bland at all).

The tranquility of the hot tub and swimming pool area between Gardner and Robinson needs to be experienced... And, I got amazing astrography pics...

I have mixed feelings about Sun Mountain Lodge. We did enjoy our stay. We did love our view from our room. We did enjoy our dinner in the bar and grill. We stayed in the Mt Robinson building. The room was large as was the bathroom. The fireplace was very nice. The bed and bedding were very comfortable. Unfortunately it was too cool during our stay to be on the balcony but I am sure it would be a great spot to sit and read while enjoying the spectacular view. Just a few changes would make it excellent.

The paint color in the room made it very dark which is a shame since it had wonderful high ceilings (we were on the 2nd floor). Also adding a few pieces of some kind of artwork to the walls would enhance the room tremendously. A night light in the bathroom would be a great addition, the first night we had the bright lights on, the second I turned on the make up mirror light and that did the trick.

We would have enjoyed dining in the main dining room but it was completely booked. It was only open for one night of our 2 night stay. I called directly to make the reservation long before our stay and it would have been great if a reservation for dinner at that time had been suggested. The breakfast had a huge selection, was a buffet. Unfortunately everything was fairly cold (we did eat late the morning we ate there) and it was very expensive. If it was hot and you ate more than we do it would be worth the price. I understand it is under new ownership, a few changes and it will be top notch.

No daily housekeeping is provided. The pool was quite dirty with no clean towels. We could not get fresh towels, coffee or creamer in our room for the 4 days we stayed with repeated requests. There was a TV cabinet in our room but it was being used for blanket storage. I am happy to stay in a location without internet or TV but I know that going into it. We were never warned that there are no TVs and were not told that when we checked in. Clearly at some point there were otherwise why have a TV cabinet in the room? Just seemed like way to much money to spend with very little service.

I came with my husband and baby; my sister and her husband had another cabin, and my parents were in another cabin. Upon arrival, my sister (who is pregnant) noticed the smell of cigarette smoke in her cabin, and that there were some mysterious stains on one of the upholstered chairs in the living room area. She tried airing out the cabin to get rid of the smell, but it didn't end up working. She also discovered some food left on the ground in the bedroom under the nightstand. The following day, she called the front desk to ask them to clean the chair, the bedroom with the food on the floor, and ask about an air purifier. They said they would look into it, but they didn't do anything, even after my sister checked in with the front desk about it again that afternoon. Finally, the following morning we let the cleaning staff know directly when we saw them, and the cabin was finally cleaned.

I thought that I had lucked out with a clean cabin... but it turned out that I was very very wrong. I was staying in cabin 610, and on our second night I thought that I heard mice scratching around. Wanting to sleep, I just told myself "no, they're in the walls, it's ok." Then, on our third and last night, I heard it again, and thought that I heard them in the trash and our luggage. I spent the night reassuring myself that at least they probably wouldn't crawl into our bed, or into my baby's pack & play (or if they did). That morning as we were packing up, we saw that the bathtub - where I had given my baby a bath, and where her bath toys still were - was full of mouse feces and urine. Similarly, a bag that had some of her dirty clothes and toys had mouse poop and pee in it. We couldn't tell how extensive it was in the rest of the cabin, since all of the carpet is the same dark brown as mouse poop, but we packed up and got the heck out of there. On checkout, I let them know about the issues, but they didn't take anything off the bill and said that there was a "resort emergency" but someone would call me to ask about my experience. It's been 2 weeks and no one has called. I spent the next 2 days cleaning all of our clothes and luggage and sanitizing my baby's toys so that she didn't get sick.

Please don't go here. Don't waste your money or your vacation days.

Great resort! Our first time at Sun Mountain after wanting to come for quite some time. Wonderful staff, good food, beautiful setting. We travel a lot and stay in some very nice places and wow- I cannot understand the negative reviews. We stayed in the cabins and they were so cute! Well appointed and had everything we needed. Our dogs loved walking along the well groomed paths and the lighting at night along the pathways was very nice. Dining room food was great. We all had the filet. Burgers in the bar were very good. The man who helped us get set up for X-country skiing was so nice and helpful. He gave us a map and suggested a beginner loop. We all had so much fun that we decided to try more intermediate trails and skied all day. We loved watching the ice fishermen from our cabin porch. They were all catching a lot of fish. Will definitely be back next year and maybe over the summer.

We have been coming to Patterson cabins at Sun Mountain Lodge for 10 years. Since the new owners took over, quality has dropped, and prices have skyrocketed. We were so disappointed last year with broken heaters, dirty and tired uncomfortable furniture, and useless pots/pans/knives I contacted the manager. He said they were going to renovate all the cabins this year and possibly add hot tubs. Well, that did not happen and they are the same old worn cabins w broken fan control, bathroom fan that vibrates the whole cabin and dysfunction poorly equipped kitchen w no storage and dirty food crumbs in various corners. So not worth the excessive prices they are charging and so not “luxury” as they are marketed.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We sincerely regret that your recent stay did not meet your expectations. The Patterson Cabins hold a special place in our history, and we understand how disappointing it is when the experience falls short. While we have been working on plans to update and improve the cabins, delays have unfortunately impacted the timeline for renovations. We take your concerns about the condition of the cabins and their amenities very seriously, and I’ve shared your feedback with our team to address the specific issues you mentioned. Please know that we remain committed to enhancing the quality of our accommodations to provide the luxury experience our guests deserve. We deeply appreciate your loyalty over the past decade and hope for the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to enjoy the improvements we are working toward. Driving from Sun Mountain Lodge into Winthrop is about a 20 minute drive, then on to Washington Pass is probably another hour and a half if you don't stop to enjoy the scenery. They are starting to clear the snow on the pass which is about a 6 to 8 week process, so an opening in early May is possible.

So far as we know, the only place have TV is at the lodge on the tv room and at the Restaurant. Im a big TV person, but honestly you don need watch tv if you stay at sun mountain lodge, is lots of great beautiful views on any season to you can admire with a cup of wine or your favorite drink, in case the tv is for entertain your kids i suggest to bring your iPad or device with downloaded movies or tv show... enjoy Winthrop downtown.
