Last Spring, my husband and I were traveling to Pennsylvania to visit family. The trip was long! We decided to stop to stretch our legs at Cacapon State Park. We had only seen the sign before and had No Idea what lay ahead as we...More
This is an older facility, but very nice. I especially loved the lodge "lobby", which is a gigantic room with a gas fireplace, books, a big tv, free internet access and a public computer, puzzles, and loads of games. The restaurant is really great! Great...More

West Virginia is one of the most beautiful places to spend time through October and even early November. Prime autumn weather and leaf-watching is of course the second weekend in October when rooms/cabins must be booked a year ahead of time. Sometimes the weather stays relatively nice until the middle of November, however, I have alternately experienced rainy, gray miserably cold weather as early as the 20th of October in that region. If you hit a long pleasant autumn with the amber coloring of leaves lasting until early November you are fortunate, but this is entirely unpredictable in one of the cloudiest areas of the United States. Honestly, when I am lodging at Cacapon in the fall, rain or shine, I enjoy a nice warm fire in the fireplace and the wonderful meals at the Lodge dining room. Best to reserve a 2nd floor lodge room with a full unobstructed view.
