We arrived for Memorial Day Weekend to a great surprise. We had reserved a dream cottage and were upgraded to the Architectural Rattenbury Cottage! This is truly a beautiful cabin secluded at the end of the lane. Our deck looked out over the lake from...More
Just had a relaxing and fun weekend at Canoe Bay. The food in the the Inn was very good and the resort was very upscale. The staff was as good as it gets. Everyone was friendly and professional. We will definitely be back !!!!!
We absolutely loved our stay! The food was fabulous and the staff really attended to our dietary requirements. No request (within reason of course--smile) seemed to be absurd. The view from our Treetop Cottage was magnificent and simply divine. The rooms were exactly as pictured...More
Canoe Bay is truly a distinct experience, and a superb getaway. They created a sophisticated resort and restaurant deep in the north woods. Absolutely everything about the physical experience is unique and excellent - Frank Lloyd Wright inspired architecture, incredible craftsmanship, natural setting, and attention...More

Hi there! I'm happy to answer this for you. There is not a whole lot to do at Canoe Bay itself. If the weather is nice, you can swim, canoe, and kayak. There is a really nice library with a ton of books to peruse or borrow (I picked one up one the widow behind Veuve Cliquot Champagne) as well as an impressive range of DVDs. I brought fun bath stuff from Lush and had a mini "spa" afternoon after a picnic and a swim. There are also many miles of easy walking/hiking trails.
As for the area, Chetek doesn't seem to have a whole lot to offer. There are some antique stores in town, a few casual restaurants, and not a whole lot else. I enjoy old fashioned downtowns though so a stroll would be fun in my book. Chetek is probably more rustic than charming though.
My suggestion on your way down would be to stop at the Leinenkugel Brewery in Chippewa Falls for a tour and beer tasting. Canoe Bay is about 20/30 minutes North of Eau Claire/Chippewa Falls. If you go in the Fall, there are also lots of apple orchards in the area which are fun to visit.
Overall, Canoe Bay will probably be more about relaxing and enjoying the beautiful grounds, accommodations, and fine dining. I hope this helps!
