We stayed four nights in this nature lovers idyllic location, with the Tarcoles river running through its extensive grounds and wildlife in abundance I was captivated. This 280 hectare reserve has pools large and small, the 56 guest rooms are bungalow style and are scattered around the grounds with air conditioning, complimentary safe and en-suite shower. The food was buffet...

Stayed here as part of a touring holiday for a few days. Wonderful location for watching wildlife. Have a drink by the river and the birds come to you. Staff are very friendly, food is good and rooms are clean but basic. This is a hotel for nature lovers with lots of places to see bird life close by. Pity...

We spent 4 nights at the rain-forest resort of Villa Lapas, the second part of our 2 week holiday in Costa Rica. The hotel is set in lush extensive gardens with 2 bars/lounges, and only a short drive from the Pacific coast. A small river runs within/adjacent to the complex, and also divides the accommodation at the hotel, with a...

We were fortunate to be given room 300, which is a suite - their only suite. We went inside and were amazed. It was a room that was so much more than we were expecting. Beautiful, clean, spacious -- it looked more like a home. It was its own building, next to the consecrated church (which is incredible). We saw...

We were on a private tour of Costa Rica and used this location for 4 nights as a sensible stop point whilst moving between locations. Yes, rooms are very basic but for those that MUST have a TV and air-con these are included. Grounds are extremely pleasant and besides the many birds one can also see a range of iguanas...

Rooms are OK - very basic with no wardrobe. Grounds are wonderful for bird watching. Saw many tropical birds including Scarlet Macaws. Food was very average. They need to organise more seating around the bar area. After dinner there is nowhere to sit and have a drink. We were on a tour, so out all day and in all evening.

We chose Villa Lapas partly because it was halfway between Manuel Antonio Park and San Jose with a day to kill before our return home from San Jose. It was a good choice. It is a couple of km. off highway 34 but seemed like we were deep in Carara National Forest. The resort is set in a Garden setting...

The highlight of this place was the bar: unlimited (from a list ) drinks and friendly bartenders. Food was buffet style with limited selections. Rooms are small and need updating. There is a $2.00 per day for the in room safe.

Villa Lapas is a mid-range tourist facility, well-equipped to handle groups, and ideally located for exploring the Tarcoles River and Carara National Park. Rooms are fine, though a little tired. The self-service restaurant offers a salad and fruit buffet and a changing selection of local dishes, more like good home cooking than fine dining. Staff are friendly and helpful: a...

Hotel Villa Lapas is amazing. It is nicely tucked inside a small valley along a flowing stream and thus provides ample opportunities to observe native birds such as macaws and motmots. I stayed across the road from the pool in an elegant room complete with a finely-decorated tiled bath. Whereas an adequate wi-fi signal was available just outside on the...
