Villa Lapas is a mid-range tourist facility, well-equipped to handle groups, and ideally located for exploring the Tarcoles River and Carara National Park. Rooms are fine, though a little tired. The self-service restaurant offers a salad and fruit buffet and a changing selection of local dishes, more like good home cooking than fine dining. Staff are friendly and helpful: a...

Hotel Villa Lapas is amazing. It is nicely tucked inside a small valley along a flowing stream and thus provides ample opportunities to observe native birds such as macaws and motmots. I stayed across the road from the pool in an elegant room complete with a finely-decorated tiled bath. Whereas an adequate wi-fi signal was available just outside on the...

If you want to imagine what is sounded like for Tarzan to sleep at night or if you have ever wanted to be in the jungle at night, but still be safe and sound, this is the place for you. About 20 yards from most of the doors that enter guest rooms is jungle. From majestic macaws flying over head...

Beautiful grounds. Lots of swimming pools but full of Costa Rican children and adults. Not a problem for us because we were there to look for birds. A beautiful trail through dense jungle, full of many different species of birds. Three meals a day served buffet style, with omelets made to order at breakfast. The open-air dining room lets you...

Loved it here. No airs and graces, just peaceful, calm and relaxing. The room is basic but comfortable. Be warned, there is no wardrobe, just a few hooks with coat hangars supplied on the reverse of the bathroom door. The beds were comfortable. No tea/coffee making facilities, but available, in theory, in the dining area at all times I believe....

I was so pleasantly surprised when we arrived! It is just lovely, the food is delicious and the birds and jungle life are amazing. Don't miss the trip down (yes, it's all downhill) the mountain trail which includes 5 breathtaking suspension brides through dense jungle. The driver takes you up to the top for $20 per person and the trail...

Very nicely maintained hotel. The room was spacious, had a nice big TV screen. There are several different swimming pools, gorgeous grounds. There is a quirky 'fake' church and bar that feels. Bit like a film set. A genuine river runs through the grounds which are beautiful, immaculately landscaped.

This hotel is in a nice neighborhood location surrounded by forest grounds. It is fairly large and the facility can host a lot of people. Unfortunately, the rooms are only basic (ours did have AC) and the walls could not hold back the high volume of the other noisy guests with children. The breakfast buffet was decent. The hotel staff...

I would give this 4 stars, but I know what most Americans expect. March. Get up early and be prepared for heat and humidity by mid-morning. Room has a ceiling fan; bed/bathroom, though simple, is super clean and comfortable. The grounds are well kept, nature trails run directly out of the gardens. We enjoyed taking our buffet breakfast to a...
