The trip was excellent and the airline went above and beyond normal service. We did go first class (my second time) and I would recommend it for a 12 hour flight . Service was great and our 'missing luggage' beat us home.

This is a lovely, century - old hotel with three floors of rooms without TV or phone (and no elevator that we saw). Our third floor room had a beautiful ocean view from its balcony. It was simply decorated and comfortable.

Are the japanese mats more or less comfortable than the mattresses?
Your input is appreciated. I am deciding on a room for one 65 year old female. I would like to save money but is sharing a bathroom worth it?

I can't answer your specific questions but debated the whole shared/not shared bathroom question with myself before booking to stay 2 nights in December last year. Given the prices are so reasonable I decided to go with the private bathroom. Probably if you need to ask then it is worth the extra cost :)
I had a room on the second floor. The bed was comfortable (quite firm). This is a super place to stay, the people were lovely and the breakfasts are delicious.
PS I am 64.
