We had a room with private bathroom. No mosquito nets on the windows. Ceiling fan did not work. We had a stand-up fan in the room which was incredibly filthy. The room was extremely noisy. Upside: we had a mini fridge in the room. Parking lot in diagonal to the hotel.

One the nicest, friendliest places I've ever-been to.. Great location, mins from every store. Free wifi, the staff was very helpful, and the for the price you can't beat it,great atmosphere. If you love old Hawaii this is it.And all the different people you get to meet at the hostel. I had a great time. Thanks for the good experience....

Great place to base out of and meet international travelers. Very clean and cheap! Great kitchen to cook all the meals and save some dollars. With being able to take the bus anywhere on the island for two dollars you can play on the Big Island with a small budget hanging with friends at the Hilo Bay Hostel! I recommend...

Staying in this hostel feels like you've stepped into a time machine. It's housed in old hotel in central Hilo, which is quaint and has a lot of character. And the crowd is a quirky mix of long stay boarders and short-term backpackers. But the rooms are pretty rundown, there is no air conditioning and staff are not that helpful....

We took a private and stayed here for a few days during our stay in Hilo. Its right in the center of Hilo, and is in a pretty nice location. Our host was very kind and offered to point us out to all the locations to see. The room was pretty spacious, and there is no air conditioning. It is...

It was love at first sight for me. If all hostels were like this, way more people would stay in them! The entrance is up a wide set of stairs to a spacious common room. All the room doors (almost) open into the common room, so it is a great place to meet fellow travelers. The common area has a...

My husband and I rented a private room for a one night stay while we were on that end of the island. The owner Scott was a nice guy. He had several good suggestions of what we could do while we were there. The room was clean. The sheets were clean but pretty stained. The windows need to be wide...

I've stayed in dozens of hostels in my time and this was by far the most friendly, diverse and full of character. Beautifully decorated throughout, with clean rooms - you couldn't ask for more. The excursions to the volcanoes were very well organised and topped off what was a wonderful stay on the Big Island.

I stayed in this hostel for 5 nights and I can't really complain about anything. They had everything I was looking for, a good bed, good wifi, a kitchen and a good location. They don't have a freezer in the hostel, so if you're planning to buy frozen meat, you have to prepare everything at once and then store in...

This is my fav place to stay in Hilo. And I've been staying here for both work and vacation during the last 11 years. It's an old hotel, nothing luxurious, but very reasonable price, convenient to downtown Hilo (3 used bookstores within walking distance, lots of little ethnic restaurants & shops). A kitchen you can cook meals in, laundry facilities,...
