What a clean place! Comfortable rooms, nice, clean and airy. The sounds of the song birds is a pleasure. Extremely accommodating and friendly staff. Everything you could want is within walking distance. Enjoyed every minute and will always recommend Hilo Bay Hostel

The staff is very helpful, polite, and friendly. They will go out of Their way to make your stay enjoyable. There are a variety of restaurants, bars, beaches, and waterfalls that are in walking distances. The hostel itself is very old but well kept by the owner Scott and staff Terry, Glenda and Justin. The community bathroom and the kitchen... More

After perusing the many outlandishly positive five star reviews on here, you could be forgiven on arriving at the Hilo Bay Hostel for thinking that you've got the wrong address. The hostel is charmingly situated in a den of iniquity to rival Sodom, featuring a motley horde of mental patients and their mental health/behavioural centres. Now, to the room. It... More

My dears, if you have the great good fortune to book accommodations at the Hilo Bay Hostel, the stairs shown in this snap are but the first step to experiencing a true ALOHA welcome to Hilo and all of Hawaii. It may not be the grand staircase of the Titanic, but then the Hilo Bay Hostel is far from a... More

We stayed in the private room which had an en-suite bathroom. The room was very spacious, great value and good central Hilo location.

When I traveled to the Big Island for a few days during my last visit to Hawaii, I wanted to stay away from the commercial/overpriced venues on the west coast of the island. Therefore, I went to Hilo, with its traditional and historical flourishes. After searching online, I discovered the Hilo Bay Hostel, and took a chance, based on its... More

This hostel was located conveniently in the middle of the city, right next to everything you need. The rooms were suitable, nothing special, but a good bed to sleep on. People were nice. I'd recommend this hostel.

A friend and I (both seniors) stayed a week at the hostel and enjoyed it immensely. We met interesting people (both travelers and staff), got tips on sights to see and locations of necessities, etc. The staff have great senses of humor, and work hard to make the experience enjoyable. The full kitchen is a plus, enabling small or magnificent... More

We paid $67/night for a private room. Rooms were spacious and they have a full kitchen. They have free wi-fi but you have to pay if you want to use their computer. Scott is very nice and accommodating.

My husband and I stayed for only one nite, but enjoyed it and the locstion. Had a private room with basth, very good value, Scott was very nice, gave me the extra pillows. Good location, little noisy being our room overlooked the street, but wasn't a problem to fall asleep for us.Our first hostel experience and it was a nice... More
