This was our first clothing optional experience and, prior to choosing Hangin' Loose, we extensively researched accommodations near Hilo, HI and found them to have terrific reviews. We chose to stay in the Honeymoon Hale at Hangin' Loose, which was above our expectations. Michael and Jan met us as we arrived to make sure we had everything we needed and... More

We were actually on our honeymoon, arriving the day after our wedding. Bottom line...loved it. The yurt was extremely comfortable and the grounds were like a botanical garden. Michael and Jan were very accommodating hosts and we enjoyed a couple of evening happy hours with them and their dogs. They are about as local as non locals get, having been... More

We stayed in the Honeymoon Yurt with its own private hot tub in the secluded tropical gardens. The owners are really nice friendly people and we got on very well. In fact I decided to write an article for two naturist magazines about our stay it was so lovely.

A nice rustic clothing optional retreat in the middle of a lush tropical forest. The only downside is the mosquito problem (which makes it unwise to be naked). You have to keep your food in the refrigerator. We left our bread out and it was partially eaten in the morning. The hosts were very hospitable and friendly and we had... More

Although a little difficult to find the first time, especially if you arrive after dark, it's a fantastic location for exploring the Hilo, Puna District, and Volcanoes National Park area of the Big Island. I've visited the all four main Hawaiian Islands with this my third visit to the Big Island. What's great about this side of the Big Island... More

Nestled in the rain forrest of Hawaii, Hangin Loose is a wonderful experience for those looking for an experience like no other. The Yurt we stayed in was larger than any hotel room. King size bed, full couch, satellite TV, full kitchen, full bath. One of the coolest things was the outdoor shower. Taking a warm shower outside right nest... More

We stayed at Hangin Loose for (sadly) only 3 days but will return if the opportunity presents itself again. Mike and Jan were great hosts and we enjoyed 'happy hour' with them. We stayed in the 'Yurt'...highly recommended! It was clean, the king bed VERY comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, and the outdoor shower was great. There also was a... More

It is called the BIG Island because it is larger than all the other islands combined. Even taking the shortcut, it takes 2.5 hours to get from one side to the other. A car is a must and rentals seem to be more available on the Kona side – reserve ahead!. If you are interested in water activities (snorkeling, deep... More

Mike & Jan are fantastic hosts and Hangin' Loose is nothing short of AMAZING. Our Yurt (the Honeymoon Hale) was more like a treehouse (10' off the ground) in paradise, and after two weeks it was very hard to leave. Anything we wanted to do was easily accessible, .. from the lava flow in Pahoa to active volcanoes, .. to... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
If your idea of Hawaii is Waikiki, Don Ho, crowds, expensive activities & tours, this isn't your place. But, if you'd like to experience a peaceful authentic rural Hawaii setting amid beautiful exotic foliage, Hangin' Loose is it. And . . . you can experience it au natural. Listen to the birds & the trade winds whispering thru the palm fronds, watch a million stars while serenaded by coqui frogs at night. Walk the grounds and see hundreds of native & exotic tropical flowers & plants. Hang out by the pool, relax in the hot tub, sunbathe on the deck, have a drink . . . get the picture? Or, visit some of the many nearby sites (almost all nearly free): Volcano National Park, clothing-optional beaches, swim nude with the dolphins, star-gaze atop Mauna Kea, check out the waterfalls, tour historic Hilo or funky Pahoa Town. Hike thru a volcano. Visit an orchid farm, or a macadamia nut plantation. Golf in Madam Pele's backyard (Volcano Golf Course). Snorkel with sea turtles. Visit a steam vent -- nature's sauna. Nude hiking along a pristine shoreline. And, much more . . . Mostly, relax & have fun. That's what Hangin' Loose is all about. ... more   less
